Back in 1962 I had my picture taken with Robin Roberts and Jim Gentile by their locker room. That day Gentile hit a GW homer and Roberts pitched a complete game against the Yankees. It was August and the Orioles beat them five straight games. It was a five game series. It was quite an accomplishment considering the Yankees were world champs that year.

I don’t like to use bunting, partially because I don’t like it or that it complicates gameplay. Usually play with a DH so pitchers don’t bat. I will use it on rare occasions when the game is on the line in the last inning. I am looking forward to learning more. I want to do a National League replay in the 80’s soon, so I am looking forward to the series here.

I tend to only bunt when sacrificing. I know this is not 100% accurate, but I'm happy with it. I did find that I did not like my results when replaying 1919 until I started sacrificing a lot more than I planned. So, as you mentioned, you need to know how often they were used in the time period being played.

I'm doing a 1930 replay and during that year the sacrifice bunt and sacrifice flies were combined. The hitter also was credited with a sacrifice fly if a baserunner moved up a base. It's a good thing that retrosheet has play-by-play from most of the games from 1930 so that I can separate the two. I try to get everyone their sacrifice bunts because it helps with getting a more accurate batting average.

I agree-I guess it depends, though, on what a person is trying to accomplish in their replay and how much they want to immerse themselves in how the game was played back then. But your point is valid, in my opinion.
