Love it. I don’t know how many times I’ve thought that if I run out of gas escaping civilization I’ll just find the nearest horse pasture and see which horse seems rideable.
Perfect I feel so much better now! I have an Arab/POA cross. We are ready! He is trained to rear so we will be using forward striking as our defense weapon of choice. But now I have to go binge “the walking dead” because I never did watch that show, just not a zombie fan nor much for the mythical or fantasy genre. But it’s best to be prepared!
My horses would definitely make a beeline towards wherever! One time, actually, they broke free and ran out into the highway (a lot of traffic, not to mention) almost a few miles away , and my dad had to go catch them with his motorcycle. Good thing there was a guy who helped distract them with some grass and helped tie them! Lol, that was scary but so funny!
First try teaching him a command which makes him kick, then train his kicks to make them better. Use as the target a soft object which the horse is desensitised to, like an old mattress propped up against the wall.
That was hilarious! I love it, we have definitely thought that out for the last year! People definitely need to be prepared and horse riders are going to be at the top of the game

If the zombie apocalypse does happen, I'm stealing horses as I don't have one of my own. I do ride a Clydesdale though. He is a bit spooky but can go fast if needed.
There is a dressage movement done by the Lippizan stallions that involves leaping up and kicking out with the hind end. Not sure if the name of the maneuver, maybe the Capriolet? It would come in handy. 😂😂😂😂😂

If you have more than one horse, let's say 2 or 3, a second horse can help carry the gear as well as an Apocalypse partner which is extremely tactical in terms of keeping watch at night.
Yeah, I had to think about which one to ride. My mare is very fast, but she's also small and old. My gelding is slow and wants to be friends with everything, but he's 4 so he could probably go a lot longer.
😆😆 That’s exactly the kind of conversation I often have with my partner! 😆 And my horse... well, I can’t ride him yet, si that’s a but of an issue. And he’s very friendly and curious with people, si he’d probably walk up to the zombies. And he was already stabbed once in the chest. It was a miracle he survived. Or did he? Maybe he’s a zombie horse...! 🧐😆
Carmella, Montana is great for its mountains but remember S. Dakota horse country. Also, you can re-purpose your barn stalls into very tiny homes for stranded people, in the event you can't escape by horse. Think unique homes for Airbnb equestrians ~~ travel ready and family, pet friendly!
One thing she missed: desensitize the horses to a polearms of some kind being used by you on their back. This way, you can skewer the zombies ahead of you while you run.
Here's my breakdown of my ponies and their survival (I've thought about this a lot). Pony 1 Hawk: big con is that he's 30 minutes away by car through a town and up and down steep hills. Second con is that he's old af and eats his body weight in grain a day. BUT he's feisty, loyal, nasty to everyone but me (zombies look out!), Can run forever and never get tired, scared of nothing, super hardy - barefoot, never lame a day in his life, doesn't seem to feel pain, hot, or cold. But he's also only 14.1 so I'd be easier to pick off. Plus he's a mostly white paint, so six months of the year when it's not snowing we'd be super easy to spot. Pony 2 Tabbuu: I may possibly be doomed. He's about 20 minutes away by car, but as the crow flies probably a lot less because I just have to cut through lots of corn fields. He's a young, healthy Arab and could stay fat off the essence of grass alone (send help - he's so fat). But he's clumsy and a bit spooky, so he would quite possibly dump me somewhere in the wilderness. He's also such a drama queen so he would probably fall down and die if he got a single scratch. I just have to hope that his Bedouin warrior ancestors would come to my aid and he would be brave and run forever. He would also probably try to mooch treats off the zombies. But at least he would look totally fabulous until we died. If the apocalypse happens in ten years when he's trained then maybe I'll be okay. Ooh there's also Toffee, a pony I've been working with, she's not mine but I feel like the owner would take the big broke horses in the apocalypse. She's also super hardy and never lame, loyal, small and easy to ground mount... But lazy af. She would amble along as the zombie munched her butt. Give me a couple years with her, too.

Kahlua kicks anything and everything, so zombies beware. The downside to this is humans have to beware, too.
My horse Ringo takes a long time to tack up because, he never picks up his hoofs so I can clean them. Can you do How to camp on a horse?
I don’t own a horse but I can ride. Hell, when my beloved old car died I was willing to substitute it for a horse for a brief while until I bought a new car🤣
The hoof pick hitting the hay bale and bouncing off has me dead. 🤣
