I know theres going to be a lot of comments on this one so this comment is going to contain all of the FAQs and points that I will see so I don't have to repeat myself. I will add on to this and I always enjoy seeing what you think towards the stuff I say! 1. Jinx cuts her own hair since it's better in a fight: Arcane is a narrative so fights can honestly go however. The writers can write infinite ways for her hair to not be w problem like we've already seen. When it comes to design details her hair logistics isn't really that big of a deal compared to defining herself as a unique character. 2. Silco braided Jinx's hair: Same problem, why does she keep the look until act 3 then? 3. Hair holds memories: I might be mistaken but that has not been a theme of Arcane so that isn't really relevant to the discussion.
Honestly, cutting off the braids was an incredibly bold move given how iconic her design is. While it's definitely not preferable for most people, it's symbolic and that's the point.
my exact thoughts! even though i never played league or am invested in league at all, for Arcane JInx's braids truly are iconic!! I love this bold move and I hope they play their cards right, even though I think her with long hair is cooler haha.
on a similar note, it could be how jinx is becoming more like vi. jinx is already shown by her fans' art to be a parallel to vander, much like vi was, and as vi becomes more like jinx, it seems fitting for jinx to take up that mantle, representing her becoming a leader for zaun.
i do actually love it since it shows the independence she gains when she looses silco. it also shows she finds importance in vi since she looks like her
I definitely think she loses her braids by no choice of her own. I think itll either be a result of a fight (cutting them off so they cant be grabbed, someone else cuts them off) OR it might be a fakeout (using the braids as evidence of her death, so she can go underground and have more time to plan)
I love jinxs new design and I think it's good for her character because the jinx we saw in acts 2 to 3 was under silcos influence and wasn't truly jinx but now that silco is gone she is now free and the jinx that's in season 2 is the real jinx
I don't mind her outfit so much. Its not my favorite thing, but its still cool. What don't like, is her hair. Cutting the braids is a crime. Regardless, I'm sure its got a purpose and I'm excited to see how she loses her hair.
I think the shark looking hood thing is a really cool design choice if they are going to replace her braids with that hood then I support it however, if she’s just gonna have short hair now and have no other defining design features then I’m completely against it
Personally im kinda just tired of the cuts of hair/braids trope. Just let your characters have "long" hair for petes sake. Though arcane has been done too well for them to be sloppy at this point, so ill wait and see. (Not that i was complaining) Still not my design prefrance either, honestly kinda odd to go with it for the merch unless its a huge deal in the end.
I LOVE her new look. It's strips her off her iconic look and screams "REVOLUTION". it's bold and gaudy and shows off her spontaneity and impulsivity. She's not the same character. She's changed. She's an icon. It's very Jinx. Freeing. Chaotically artful. It tells her narrative so well
@@maofone it's wise to keep in mind she's "zauns daughter". And that she's mentally unstable lol. The fact that her new design has graffiti type paint sprawled over it sells it even better.
One of my fav theories for how it happens is that Ambessa unintentionally cuts it off attacking her in that trailer scene. As her unique blue braids would become a symbol for Zaun and we know how Ambessa deals with symbols and then Jinx later...uh refines it. But if she just straight cuts it off that's cool too.
Same can be said about Vi's enforcer design. The uniform looks bad on her because SHE HATES EVERY SECOND OF WEARING IT AND WORKING WITH THEM. That's the whole bloody point.
In my opinion: Jinx’s long pigtails are representative of her trauma, her cutting her hair is her letting go and moving on from her trauma. Just bc u bombed the council doesn’t mean you moved on from for trauma
I mean if she cut them by herself of course they would look bad. Like it's giving when Rapunzel's hair was cut and people were mad because it wasn't the way they wanted to be. Also knowing Arcane and how they try to make it as realistic to in real world it is I agree it's on purpose
i feel like im one of the only people in the comment section that just does not like her haircut lol. i really can't get over it. i feel like her braids make her who she is now; jinx. and now she's reverting back to powder by cutting them off. and to be honest, her braids are just iconic. she has them in the game LoL, she's known for her braids and now boom, they're. don't get me wrong, i still love jinx. but cutting off her braids was just not it
Kinda surprised this also didn't happen with vis emo look since it's down a similar lane of self destruction. Guess fortiche cooked too hard for it's that one
Jinx cutting off her hair is the least of my worries, she didn’t represent in game jinx to that extent of the character and the majority of people liked her better anyway. Something that would make me go like wtf!? Is the writers go in a direction where they’d have them trade names
It just means she moves on and lets her trauma and her grudges finally go. I also guess with Sevikas (probable) death at the end of act II, Silcos last loyalist is gone. And his ideas of a revolution will also be obsolete, since Piltover and Zaun will be forced to face a common enemy. Remember what Jayce said: "What brought us together in the first place - the threats beyond our walls"... So she just be her own version of Jinx and no longer Silcos daughter.
It honestly just looks bad on her. It's like bad version of Vi's haircut and it simply doesn't suit her at all. I don't care about reason for cutting it. It just doesn't look right no matter how much I look at it. I feel like even her outfit looks weird here as well. Her first design was just supreme and new one doesn't hit so far. I am over with idea of cutting hair as plot with deep meaning. Let women have crazy long hair. It even made her look more dynamic in a fight with braids swinging around with each move.
Exactly, the design makes jinx look super broken and just not herself. Luckily thats not her final outfit since we know she gets the hoot and the aura she exudes is probably going to be her main villain outfit until she gets defeated and unhooded to which this design will make her looks like the sad, conflicted, and lonely person she is
@@maofone I really want to trust Riot to make things right and do her justice in the end. For now it's just tough pill. I hope that maybe she will look like that for one episode and then come out with her final better outfit.
@@HalseyFan929 We have seen quite many characters in coats by now. Heimendinger, Jinx, Caitlyn... but it could be that it is Jinx... but it could be Victor too.
I think the braids are a symbol of her trauma or baggage. At the very least beginning she had short hair, then after she’s adopted her hair was mostly short but with a slight braid in the back. When she takes on Jinx her hair is the longest and most noticeable just like her trauma and baggage being the most outward and noticeable. I think near the end maybe her trauma doesn’t fully go away but I think she’ll let go of her baggage and in so cutting her hair back to short where it was in the beginning on the bridge.
I think jinx is still going to have a lot of trauma and mental illness, because I’ve struggled with stuff similar to what she has and as of slowly gotten better, I realized that shit‘s gonna haunt me for a while, so I don’t think she can get better in that short amount of time that would be really unrealistic or maybe she’s like at first able to be better, but she slowly unravel throughout the season
Do you still think there will not be a timeskip? Because some of the Caitlyn and pit fighter vi scenes/shirt designs they both have longer hair so I think there will be a timeskip but probably not as much a the first season. If there were to be one I would think it’s when vi is going through her angsty teen/ pitfighter phase.
She looks a lot more like season 1 Vi with the short hair, half buzzed, and the arm wraps. She is taking on the role of a leader of Zaun, which is the role Vi was set up to become before her arrest. Definitely a narrative choice and I'm excited to see it play out in season 2!
You know what they should do, They should make her at the end, if she services the end, her hair should be down in like long as it untangles from the wind behind her.
The symbolism in Arcane is powerful-characters grow, age, and face real consequences. Jinx "grows up," and the time skips impact their lives. It makes sense that Jinx's iconic hair would change, reflecting her personal evolution. She's now taking control of her life, and despite her braids being cut off, if she didn’t want her hair like that, she would change it without hesitation.

I wonder if they'll implement this as a skin in the game, and if so, how. Crime City Jinx has shorter hair, so to compensate for her lack of long braids, they gave her this long headband tied around her head, with both ends long enough to retain her silhouette in-game. Edit: 6:59 welp there's the answer, similar to what they did to Crime City Jinx with the ribbons.

2:30 To me, she seemed less calm and composed and more dissociating from what happened because she couldn't process it from how she suddenly went from breaking down crying to nothing and hearing voices, and how after getting up, she just stood there for a bit.
Well powder broke down immediately seeing the goggles and had trauma when reminded of Vi, Vander , and mylo whole Jinx faced these tragedies completely differently
@maofone I think that's because powder was dealing with the traumatic events as they were happening. Jinx is older her that had to live with what happened for years and learn to dissociate and weponize it with the encouragement of Silico since he didn't/couldn't offer her any other way to cope. And as things got worse for her (Silico dying and having to face vi), she was eventually forced to dissociate even more from still not having any other way to deal with it.
It´s the same theme of Dune: how the leader has to change to fit the narrative of the people it leads. Even Frank Herbert had to grow a beard to look like a writer was supposed to look for the European market. It could be something along those lines.
You said something interesting about Jinx's new poster/design, that she looks more "heroic". And now that you've said it, it disturbs me, I just realized that this is the only poster on which she has a healthy, serene expression, without pain, rage or psychosis, just a normal look as if she was freed from her traumas. I don't think it's a coincidence, and it reinforces my idea that she will go from "villain" to "hero" status. For now I think that the "final villain" will be Victor and his attempt to set in motion the glorious evolution, all in the middle of a war with Noxus, which will be interrupted by this event. It's just my theory.
The new design may be thematically perfect because coming from fortiche I expect no less but it's still an inferior character design compares to act 2 and 3 jinx, you sinply can't compete with perfection
Lots of people think Powder had short hair but that's just not true, she had long hair as well, just into a single braid. Short hair isn't a representative of Powder, but of a new thing. The whole change, not just the hair, def symbolizes her coming to terms that Jinx and Powder both are her all the same thus becoming a "new" her, more developed, well rounded and complete - whether that change it's purposeful or not on her part - and I doubt she's trying to hide that with the hoodie btw And at the end of S1 she was everything but in peace bro. People in peace don't bomb people while crying and screaming, even on the trailer Smeech tells us she was crying, not in peace AT ALL.
While i do perfer her long braids, but she mightve had visions of silco (where i think the black shadow comes from). I believe that silco was the one to maintain her braids, and its just too hurtful for her. Remember the creators of Arcane are very good at making their characters very human. People could seem very resolved and solid in their decisions or actions in a time of high stress. But you do make some good points, however Jinx is not fully devoloped at the end of season one, if she were fully devoloped we'd see her face her traumas and fears. Instead we see her push them down and cover them up. And honestly the more we shouldve expected this, the creators did say that season two was supposed to be opposits. We'll have the glory of a Jinx that explores doing things for others, lets go of her past (all of it), and embraces Zauns independence, but this change will likely come after the first act.
To add to your point, one notion to consider is of Jinx's long braids as a symbol of growth, or lack thereof. Jinx may be many things that powder isn't. Ruthless, capable, but not mature. So her hair looks as though it was never cut since the day Vander died. Vi was the parentified child, made to grow way to soon, but she did try to shelter Powder and let her actually be a child, and then Silco pretty much absolved her from any accountability for her messes, meaning she never really grew up. The rocket she fired at the council wasn't the attack of a visionary rebel fighting for freedom, but of an angry little girl throwing all the pain and trauma she endured back at those who willfully forced it upon her. But the war is gonna change that. Jinx will become an icon. She'll know people who love and admire her. And she'll watch those people die. So it makes sense that her new hairstyle looks like Vi, since, like Vi, Jinx's maturing won't be a slow and healthy development, but a brutal change forced on her.
My theory is she cuts her hair to look more like Vi, because I think Vi won’t make it out of season 2. If you go off how alike their story is like Vander and Silco and how Silco killed Vander, so in my theory Jinx will kill Vi or maybe she won’t but somehow Vi will be killed and so Jinx cuts her hair to look like her sister. That’s just a theory though… we shall see next month
Bruh why cant a female character have short hair, i actually think thematically short hair suits her wayy more and the braids are kinda unfitting at this point considering its something that links her to powder. I dont think yall are mad cuz it betrays jinx style, your mad that a female character has a unfeminine haircut.
I think that powder isn't dead, just yet, No matter how much jinx says so I think shes trying to drowning out powder, but she never kills her Nothing ever stays dead I could be wrong of course

The whole change, not just the hair, def symbolizes her coming to terms that Jinx and Powder both are her all the same thus becoming a "new" her, more developed, well rounded and complete - whether that change it's purposeful or not on her part - and I doubt she's trying to hide that with the hoodie btw
And at the end of S1 she was everything but in peace bro.
People just dont like change. I think she looks great.
That’s just a theory though… we shall see next month
i dont like it because her braids makes her iconic 💔
Bruh why cant a female character have short hair, i actually think thematically short hair suits her wayy more and the braids are kinda unfitting at this point considering its something that links her to powder. I dont think yall are mad cuz it betrays jinx style, your mad that a female character has a unfeminine haircut.
I think that powder isn't dead, just yet,
No matter how much jinx says so
I think shes trying to drowning out powder, but she never kills her
Nothing ever stays dead
I could be wrong of course
Jinx will not be the final villain
AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO LIKES IT 💀
Changed her name to jhon
Yea nope. i loved her braids and her individuality... theyre turning this into a "feminist" short hair generic thing.
bad?!??!
her new look is just plain awful.
I agree totally with this video
Not a bad choice and not a bad design very good for character ark and the concept art is amazing I alteady know the hate this gonna get well stay mad!
