This is really nice to see Sakurai in a more gentle light, rather than the 'delivering a Smash announcement' light. I really like this, and would love to see more interviews with Sakurai in a casual setting!
I love hearing Sakurai-san talk about his passion for cars. It’s different than just hearing about him speak about Gaming and the Gaming Industry. He clearly loves technology.
It's one thing when people talk about how they like driving, but it's another when they bring up mountain passes. At that moment, I realized he may actually be a fan of Initial D. Truly, a man of culture.
Harada-san is absolutely right. We can learn about Sakurai-san and games in other media. "Harada-bar" is a rare chance to know a bit more about who the guests actually are beyond that.
This is wholesome as hell, Sakurai not wanting to talk about cars because he doesn't want to bore the audience, but he absolutely lights up once he gets into it.
I think what really makes these talks entertaining is *because* it’s really a free talk, they’re just talking about whatever the hell they feel like, and the audience is interested in seeing what interests them. Sometimes it’s fine to just have an unplanned conversation. You never know what might come out that we would never know about otherwise.
I think he wanted to avoid the topic of his own car because he didn't want to get tracked down by anyone? Either that or it"s just the general Japanese attitude of "I shouldn't brag about my own achievements and wealth"
These episodes have been really enlightening to see how Sakurai is like as a person and a rare opportunity to hear about him just talking about whatever is really nice. It seems like he comes across as cold or unfeeling initially but really he sounds more like a logical type of person who still likes to make jokes from time to time. I could be reading him all wrong but still I really liked this talk with him, thank you so much for making this Harada-san!
@@TheVirginMeri This is very true, a lot of people with inflated egos will actively go pronouncing how much of a genius they are while people like Sakurai and Harada will remain humble. Its often times those who are hardest on themselves the one to push forward the most.
Such a wholesome conversation, I got great vibes from Sakurai-san, such a humble and witty guy! Japanese working ethic always baffles and fascinates me. Blessings to both Sakurai-san and Harada-san, can't wait for episode 3!
Mr. Sakurai's enthusiasm for driving sounds a lot like my mom. She doesn't care much about car models but loves the feeling of driving and talks about being "one with the car". Loving these conversations and I can't wait for part 3.
Props to harada for helping sakurai unwind and talk about something other than games. Felt bad when he felt like he had to talk about games and not himself.
"genius" is a tough label with too many expectations, so, in reality, people don't like to be seen as one. If it's interpreted as simply "creativity", it becomes clear that it's not an exclusive club: it manifests in many different ways. Coming up with strange ideas is one way, but simple problem-solving is also creativity. If it weren't seen as a special club, maybe people would stop placing such destructively high expectations on certain others.
Genius is also hard to define and it comes with expectations. That's why no one likes this term excepts the ones who use it. And you usually never think yourself as a genius because you can never fit your own expectation of what a genius would be, it always has to be someone else.
I honestly believe that the description of a genius Sakurai put forward fits Iwata perfectly. The miracles Iwata pulled throughout his career most definitely fit the "genius" category.
"I want to talk about things the fans are interested in". Mr. Sakurai could genuinely talk about anything and I'd find his perspective interesting. Mr. Harada was absolutely right describing him as "mysterious" because it's so rare for him to do interviews of any kind and when he does they're almost exclusively about Smash and gaming related to Smash. Hearing him just talking about cars and what he does and doesn't like about them or about how he struggles with alcohol is both interesting because it's a brand new perspective from him but also refreshing to know that his life isn't completely engulfed by Smash.
Not surprised to see Sakurai's passion for cars. He has exquisite taste, as expected. I think the only other person in the video game industry that can top Sakurai's passion and knowledge is Yu Suzuki. This show should try to get Mr. Suzuki as a future guest
"It's not that I'm allergic, but even a tiny bit will make me instantly dizzy and I start shaking, even if I can't taste it." Uhhh are you sure you're not allergic Sakurai?!
BTW, at 17:04 they're referring to the earthquake that happened in 2011 (In Japan/Tōhoku). Pretty sure it was around 9.1 magnitude, lasted around 6 minutes, and a tsunami followed afterward. Pretty scary stuff, and is also one of the reasons I don't like high places too.
Sakurai needs a well deserved rest. He worked his sanity off for all of us who are waiting for each fighter to be announce in each Smash game, either let him make the game that he wants, or just let him rest, man needs to take a very long breather
He really does deserve it. I hate how these sweaty no life nerds send him threats because their character isn't in the game. Bruh the only thing you are in debt for Sakurai is some mother fucking deodorant
He just got done saying that he feels like you should contribute to society as long as there is a demand for what you do. If he wants to retire then he will retire. He knows it's hard work so stop with the unnecessary sympathy.
These conversations give me the same general vibe as the Iwata asks series, just more generally about these fantastic video game developers. Really lovely to hear from the both of you!
