Behavior on adult racer may be because you had the odor of a kingsnake on your hands. Covering the head would be normal if it doesn't feel it can escape.
The racer was caught on a different day than the kingsnakes, though I am familiar with the behavior you are referring too in Crotalus spp. Incidentally, I have seen a Masticophis flagellum ruddocki act the same way this racer did. So glad you mentioned this. :D
@@GeneralApathy I think you called it with the death feigning. It's a more widespread behavior in snakes than is commonly known, there's even a video of a Drymarchon doing it. They can't all be as good at it as Heterodon.
I was in anticipation for part 2 alot of cool snakes this time around especially the sharp tail I believe u called it. Good stuff bro can't wait for more!
Found your channel at 2am. I truly enjoyed it having breezed through your entire shorts library before starting in on the videos. They remind me of growing up in Maine (where we have mostly Milk and Ringneck snakes in addition to garters)
I have always loved snakes but here in southern michigan its almost like they dont exist!! theres the occasinal garter snake once every generation but thats about it 😂
I actually flipped a board with four of them beneath it just a couple weeks ago. I'm moving out of California in just a few months, but I appreciate your offer. :)
do ring neck snakes or a similar species happen to live in Florida or Central Florida? I remember catching one a long time ago but it didn't look exactly like the one you had

Those ring necks really are beautiful little things

Knowledgeable!
So much Beautiful Wildlife
Racer was playing dead so cool
Aren’t ringnecks mild venomous like garter snakes? Awesome cal king! Very cool pattern
This is true.
One time a yellow belly racer was playing dead with me once
I wondered what your would do if you encountered a rattlesnake. I get nervous every time you flip over a rock.

Michigan has 15 or so snake species. You just have to be in the right places.
@@GeneralApathy ok ill keep looking!
Oh my gosh the variety of snakes. You are killing me. Amazing.
cute lil danger noodles, i sorta want to do somethin like this now

Hi I'm still looking for brachycybe
It's looking like Brachycybe will be your white whale.
@@GeneralApathy yeah I'm still not giving up yet!!!!!

Could you do a video on Pygmy centipedes? I’m interested in them! I have Rhysida Longipes! He/she is soooo cool!
They will certainly appear in a future video, though I can't say when.
@@GeneralApathy thanks dude!
what county was this filmed in?
I really like your videos! How long would you say you were out looking looking for snakes, to make this video? All I have in IL is garter snakes
Thank you. It took me a few days to shoot this video. Illinois is home to over 30 species of snakes by the way.
Where were you? I live in north california and never know where to go herping
Yeah, norcal has lotta snakes, but luckily I know most of em' are close to harmless. Also my Reptile and INvert keeping has de-Sensitized me from them

Yes they are found throughout almost all of the contiguous US including Florida
Scorpions?!?!?
I've been a bit slow on that end, my bad. Recorded, but not yet edited. I won't fib, it may be a while.
Do they not try to bite?
Bro can I work for you
Hey you didn't play with the rattlesnake
