I have dealt with depression almost my whole life! It only gets worse and worse! Im to the point now where im done! Nobody understands nor really cares just how bad depression is! I think its more deadly than cancer! Its a long horrible pain and suffering etc
Always ask for help it's hard but it helps u understand that ur not alone I deal with it too going though a divorce but I have learned asking for help is the 1st step for healing
I suffer from long term depression and anxiety (to which medication hasn't helped) which led me to become housebound with agoraphobia for 20+ years. The situation of being trapped in my house in permanent "lockdown" further perpetuates my negative feelings. The loneliness is crippling as all my friends have drited away over time, and I hardly have any family. I've tried everything I can by myself to overcome it, and yet have been unsuccessful. (Hence watching podcasts like this to glean any little info I can to aid me) I always wanted help to overcome it all, and have been told by medical professionals I need long-term talking therapy to help me overcome my issues. But the NHS says that I need to get to them in order to get the help... However being housebound, I need the help in order to be able to get to them to get the help! Catch-22 situation! It seems like I'm completely stuck and have no way of getting out of it! I have no cow, I can't afford my own cow, and no one to help me get a cow. So how do I get a cow? Thanks for a great podcast though.
Hi, you dont know me but I just wanted to say im sorry for how your're feeling and what your going through. That sounds extremely difficult, I dont have the answers unfortunately. Many of us are suffering and we have to keep moving forwards in anyway we can. For me learning about self compassion and taking care of myself rather than thinking I had to keep bullying myself helped me out of some very dark places. Just giving ourselves the permission to feel whatever we are experiencing (Whether we like it or not) and not judging ourselves for it (which is tough I know), over time can slowly release our internal pressure and allow the tiniest of gateways to take a small step towards what we know we need to do to help ourselves. Keep going bud.
@@JustBens I've been as kind and forgiving to myself, and doing the best I can given my circumstances, and that is the thing that has kept me here rather than giving up completely... (If you catch my drift). But thank you for taking the time to reply. It's very appreciated.
I'm so sorry to hear about what you're going through. Being housebound sounds incredibly tough, and it's understandable that you'd feel stuck in a catch-22 situation. You're in my thoughts, and I truly hope things align for you soon. I know it's not much, but have you looked into any online therapy options or services that offer home visits? There are some resources and charities that might be able to help in situations like yours. Keep reaching out, even if it's just little steps, because you deserve support and connection. Thank you for sharing, and I'm wishing you strength and brighter days ahead.
@@Londonechoes I've tried things over the years, but unfortunately resources that can help at home, if at all available, normally offer only up to 6 sessions which has not been enough to make a lasting impact. As it was suggested, I need long-term help which I can't reach and I simply can't afford to pay for privately being on benefits and hamstrung by the cost of living crisis too. But I'm always on the lookout for any help that may come along, however small it is. Thank you for your kind words and thoughts though, I appreciate it.
This man is brilliant. How is he not all over RUclips? He explains all these topics so incredibly easy to understand and on point. Where is his RUclips Channel? I know making a RUclips Channel is against what he is saying in this Video, but man his message needs to get out there
I love his Ted video years ago. And great talk here. So nice to hear about depression and anxiety as society matter than mental illness. Thanks for the video.
Great podcast. I like Johann. He's highlighting some important issues. He's obviously spoke to a whole bunch of profs, drs, ceos etc in his time... He's bursting with so many stats and figures on these subjects that he could have gone on for a couple more hours.
One of the best Podcasts you guys have done!!! So relevant and current!! Must listen for EVERYONE!! Johann Hari needs a bigger platform!! If you haven't read Lost Connections, it is a must read!!
I think one of the biggest contributors to male suicide is the inability to discuss feelings as openly as women do and show vulnerability.Women are almost expected by their nature to be "more emotional and vulnerable"whereas men are brought up to be "strong and invulnerable"and it is hard for them to show feelings and ask for help. Often men also rely on female relationships more for emotional support and maybe men who do not have female support find it hard to find that support in other men. Men have to get better at sharing their feelings and knowing that they do not have to be "strong"all the time and that vulnerability does not make you any less "of a man". I also think financial pressures maybe hit men harder and that is also because they have defined themselves so much by being moeny earners and "bringing home the bacon"as it were and unemployment probably hits men harder than maybe it does women who have also be defined by not simply careers or the moeny they earn but by people mothers and carerers and many other things.

@HighPerformancePodcast Guys, please go talk to Dr.Lucy Foulkes - who really understands mental illness and can discuss things much better.
Exactly "you're a hunan with unmet needs", you're not broken, and a drug won't fix you. Diet, lifestyle, needs, etc. Start there.

Interesting psychological advice, absolute dog $hit political takes.
Right wingers are happier than Left wingers, so leave the political preaching out of this topic.
