Man this is why I loved this OVA so much. It's so dark, angsty and action packed! It felt more like Mai Hime 2.0. but with Otomes this time around. So good.

I really never understand these battles... Don't they know basic tactics? Take out either Otome or Master before he can activate her powers... just shoot before the master can get anywhere near the Otome.

rheia That's actually a misunderstanding many people have, even more so with Lena than any other Otome. The GEM activates the Robe of the Otome wielding it. It's the bond between Meister and Otome that actually powers the gem. It's kinda similar to how the strength of the feelings towards the most precious person to a HiME boosts the strength of their Child. In Lena's case, however, she has BOTH the powers of an Otome and a HiME, which is why her GEMs burn out much more frequently than Arika, her daughter who has only broken her school-issued GEM.
I suppose there must be a transition between Mai HiME and Mai Otome. If that's the case, then the HiMEs must still be alive and the tradition of 4 centuries interval of choosing the HiMEs must be happening. However, the timeslot of Mai Otome and S.ifr may not be fit to the 4 centuries tradition. Except for Lena Sayers, since her HiME powers were drawn from Alyssa Searrs, an artificial HiME.
@@christianalbertsangabriel8138 there are certainly still some confusion like why is it that both the Obsidian prince and the HIME star still exist when they were completely destroyed, how in the world did Kagutsuchi get sealed again, how Miyu went from multiple to merciful, how in the world Eclipse 1 Artemis is still working, the entire mess with that happened in the sequel, and a few other stuff. Otomes are basically dollar story knockoffs of HIMEs and are way weaker as a result but the price they have to pay is also less severe. Rena seems to be a three way perfect storm, she is a descendant of Alyssa, an actual HIME, and became an Otome on top of that. She is the only character potentially more broken than Mai.
