Did you know that Ontario Canada has the only official Gaeltacht outside of Ireland? It's only a short distance from where my mother grew up im currently living in the US but my connection to Ireland and it people is strong. I've been exploring those roots for some time now and I can not tell you why I feel such a deep connection with the Irish language and with Irish mythology but its found a place deep inside my heart. Wonderful video from two of my favorite people I hope that there will be many more discussions like this in the future.
Brilliant discussions and it's really excellent to hear free flowing thoughts, I too believe we are yearning for a higher power. Our soul knows there's something greater than ourselves beyond our world calling us to connect to the past. So proud of our community. Dia leat Tuatha.
“I think it’s going to be Women in their 20’s and 30’s finding a new way of telling the stories.” You betcha Manchán! Being one of those women and knowing several more in my vicinity alone, I can say your prediction is very much accurate.
Wonderful, with two of my favourite people, two brilliant minds coming together. Love the talk about the land and the goddess, but let’s not forget the builders, the warriors, the fire-makers, the smiths, all very important as well! I love the stories of Cuchulainn and Fionn McCumhal, and wouldn’t want to see them played down or ignored. The people preserved them, especially the Fionn stories, told by the fireside for hundreds of years, if not longer. Provides a nice balance to to Cailleach of Beare 😉 as Fionn’s body is also seen in the landscape features. I think we need an awareness of a balance of divine male and female in stories and land.
As someone who left Ireland as a child I understand the connection to country, the longing for home is very real. Living in Australia and having Aboriginal friends and worked in that area for years they have a spritual and cultural connection to country. The trees and surrounds being their brothers and sisters, animals their totems. I feel a very spiritual connection to the people of this land but not to the land now called Australia. Kanyini is the most amazing Doco and explains it much better then me. Well worth a watch. The four principles of Kanyini are: Ngura. A sense of belonging to home and land. Walytja. Family connecting with life. Kurunpa. Love, spirit or soul. Tjuukurpa. The belief about creation and the right way to live.
2,000 years of Gaelic roots and history, a Gaelic Ireland history still evolving, and all most "Irish historians" can yapper on about is the friggin Franco Normans and the "English", or the hybrid Franco- Saxons. Manchán is a rare breed of Gael and historian. We need more of his insights in to the origins of Gaelic Ireland, Ireland pre and post 16th century.
Thank you Anthony and Manchan for this very interesting conversation. It was so packed with information and ideas that I watched it several times to follow all the ideas and concepts it introduced me to. I'm a long time follower and admirer of Mythical Ireland and Anthony Murphy, and was introduced to Manchan Magan more recently via his book, 32 Names for Fields. Both of you have deep knowledge of Irish myths, culture and language and to hear it interwoven is fascinating. When I was at university in the US decades ago, I majored in Anthropology, and within the curriculum we were expected to take Folklore and Archaeology classes as well. It seems a natural fit. It gives one a bird's-eye overview. Please do more of these, this was delightful.
Thank you so much for the insightful time! I have such a deep longing to return to my homeland of Ireland. I have always felt so connected. It seems there’s so much key in the geology, but most importantly the oral histories of so many cultures. The seanachai’s know just as they always have. Family of Driscoll’s here. Thank you so much again. Deirdre

Wow, we're all starting to form here tonite (come together, right now, over me sings John the Baptist, who laid foundation). We connect, intuit, craft. Form like stars showcasing a very rare full moon a coming. The bootube algorithm even gets involved. It sent so many of us to this cast. For a casting we all now go. I can only describe it further in the immortal lines of "I've got a brand new combine harvester and I'll give you the key".
There's something I've noticed; as the great grandson of immigrants, because of the misdeeds of colonialism the indigenous peoples of the United States don't like sharing their information to white people, encouraging them to look at their homeland rites and sacred places... At the same time the indigenous Irish dislike the emigrants or religious tourists coming to rediscover their homeland. I found standing on one of the twelve bens surrounding the Nee homeland of Glencoaghan with my mam and cousin Kate Hindle back in the auld cottage and found myself at peace as though I had come home... But I have not the funds to visit or stay as long as I need to
I agree that insular and exceptionalist thinking is quite dangerous and can lead down many dark paths especially in a world which is so interconnected as the one we live in. This type of US exceptionalism and nationalism is killing our democracy in the USA. It the last thing I would want for Ireland.
You don't have to be an exceptionalist to be against illegal immigration and bad government, cost of living with imminent oncoming rises with carbon and climate taxes are definitely going to make me extinct as an fear bhocht na heireann.
‘Weird and Slightly wrong that we’re doing it!’ That it’s us Men that are exploring this, but I hope that soon We’ll shut up, get out of the way and let the Women do it.
I was really enjoying the conversation untill the unfortunite phrase "white male privilage" was uttered. At this point my heart sank and l could no longer continue listening. After hundreds of years of oppression in this country, how an Irish man could pander to this poisonous idealogy is beyond me.
It’s seen as the ‘enlightened’ way of thinking. I came here for Wisdom about old ways of our people, and didn’t expect these excellent presenters to bow to the current ideology, acknowledging their masculine toxicity. I find it very troubling and unwise the way they wind this ideology into our Mythological Narratives.
The people are getting back to the very nature of Mother Earth that organized religion began the divorce from nature. I've just begun my odyssey of learning more about my Motherland and language. 🇮🇪✨💚🤍🧡
