One thing I really love about old-school hip hop is how the producers and DJ's are crate digging record nerds like me. They have a true appreciation of old forgotten jazz, blues, soul, funk, rock, classical... any music from anywhere really! I once read that scratching requires the same amount of skill and precision as the violin- to make it not sound like shit at least.
Well, that's what hiphop was and where the roots are. Pioneers like Kool Herc started extended the break beat parts of funk, soul and blues songs by using two records of the same song. The MC, usually only there to heat up the crowd and make announcements, used this extended time without lyrics to talk over it.

Anyway I don’t get how people act like Hip Hop has gone to shit though, I really dont like pretty much all music from bling era so I guess I agree that music is pretty trash but that’s the Pop Rap late 90s to 00s Hip Hop, and there were still good artists from that era like Cam’ron and Graduation Kanye. It’s like people are just trapped in a vacuum of the music they grew up with. Just wondering though since u said u know most of the names I listed would u say Hip Hop is in a bad place and lacks quality?
