Pretty sweet machine, nice to see a working one too! This generation of laptops really liked frying their own GPUs, what fun. Had one that did just that. Was also super common with the MacBooks of this era too, they used the same GPUs, and those issues is exactly why Apple ended up killing off NVIDIA graphics on their hardware/OS, just a fun little bit of history for you.

Quite peculiar that it’ll stay at a black screen on the actual machine, for me it only happens during testing with a virtual machine hence why I mentioned steps on manually recovering with a fresh bootsector through the command prompt. The likely reason it didn’t install the network driver probably has to do with how my machine came with a Dell Wireless card, it seems that these recovery images are personalized (right down to the corresponding service tag) based on how the specifications were customized when ordering which makes sense why the installation media that they usually provide are rather generic. Never had thought about installing a clean copy before tabbing into Repair Your Computer, figured it would be easier to just boot into a separate PE image so that the recovery utility can then be ran directly thereafter (once retrieving the missing DLL it asks for, of course).

How did you mange to convert the VHD to the HDD? it gives me an error at the end of the conversion

I believe I mounted the VHD on my computer and then used my cloning software (Macrium Reflect) to clone it to a hard drive

It does that since the OS partition was nullified as to save space when creating the image, it’s completely normal to get that message when using VHD2Disk and so long as the RECOVERY partition gets copied over it’ll work fine.
