    Hey Dave, I wouldn't mind an 'expedited' version of mailbag where you go through the smaller parcels faster. You do receive quite a bit of mail and it can be discouraging to those who want to send you stuff when they see that you may never get around to opening it.
    Your videos have changed my life for the better. I went back to school for electronics engineering because you re-ignited my passion. I'd like to thank you one day and send you a token of gratitude (not sure what that will be yet). I hope you do end up opening all your parcels eventually.

    +EEVblog ----About the IGBT's...... The thermal modeling is usually done in programs such as Energy 2D and sometimes in Auto-cad. The way they do thermal modeling for the IGBTs is that they set a field specified temperature onto the IGBT in the modeling program. The modeling program then takes the temperatures and shows where heat flows best(through the flow of least resistance). From these models, the thermal engineers keep changing the shape of the component and the size of the heat sink in correlation to the thermal resistances shown in the modeling program.

      Pete Brown I would agree to a point. But people in the early 20th century probably didn't want their children to be actors for the same reason. If you want to get into RUclips to make easy money it's probably a bad idea. If you want to get into it to create good content and evolve the youtube scene to be more legitimate, then go for it.

    For the network tester, the serial port is probably for connecting to a switch or a router and you can get diagnostic and configuration information out of them without connecting to the console port which is DB-9 (on the router/switch) to RJ45 but with a non-standard pinout for Cisco devices. Cisco and other manufactures have a protocol that let's you get the same information via the network and without Telnet so you don't need to use that port. I'm surprised it doesn't have a BNC connector since even new ones still have them.

    P.S. signal port on the Simens invertor must be for remote control (on/off, speed setting, direction setting) as usual on other invertors. buttons on inverter itself used for initial settig of motor parameters.

    Pleos are cool. The skin on ours has deteriorated, but he still works. The battery pack is 6xAA NiMh, but later versions used a LiPo pack which was compatible but used a different charger. Ours likes dancing to music and eating his leaf. He also likes being stroked and tickled under the chin. When he goes to sleep it is usually because the battery pack is getting low.

    52:40 - Id software didn't do software for Nintendo, however they did make a version of Mario for the PC which they showed to Nintendo in the hope that they would allow them to do the PC version of the game, Nintendo said no to PC versions of Mario and so Id converted the game into the "Commander Keen" platformer.
    There was also a version of Doom published on the SNES/Famicom but Id didn't do that version, a third party approached Id with a finished version of Doom for SNES and asked them if they would allowed them to release it (which they did). All this is documented in the "Masters of Doom" Id biography.

      Ryan Tillotson I'll add some personal advice, read the letters to the viewer, not yourself. A lot of the letter reading came off as mumbling, and it sorta... disconnects you from the viewer. Always remember that the viewer is the focus of any video you create. The video exists to entertain or inform, and if you have moments where you do neither, it detracts. I think you can make a great improvement there. Of course, through the magic of camera editing and or retapeing the boxes, you could also theoretically pre open all the boxes, read the letters, and have cheat cards with the basic details, or do a camera cut as you skim, and edit in where you jump right tot he points. That lets you skim the letters in advance, so you can jump directly to the juicy bits, and still maintain a nice continuous shot!

    i don't think that it's a good idea to aim for a RUclips career.
    Here in Germany you have to do do Work experience in a job there you can do an apprentice. It saves the young girls and guys from such things as hoping for a RUclipscareer, not that it is a bad job but, you know. if it fails, what you write in your resume? Maybe he should go to a "media" company or such thing.

      EEVblog I didnt meant it like its bad for him to work for you. I meant that he better gets a secure apprentice and not be sittin on it self. He may learn with time the special things, but why do a faceplant twice if you have a "mentor" or a "Ausbilder" as we say here in Germany who knows all this stuff and can tell you this stuff. It's also cool that he is interrested in this stuff, not everyone has to be plumber or whatever. But it is better not to set false hopes.

    • @sarowie
      @sarowie 9 лет назад

      Matthias Damasty Last but not least: The apprentice gives out a formal educational degree which - for the better or worse - implies a certain (minimum) skill set, work experience and formal education. A resume as "youtuber" can trigger the "special snowflake filter" in the head of human resources. I mean: It is an other question if someone wants to be a company worker drone or an creative individual, but... A company worker drone can pay the bills and become an creative individual over time. The other way around is much harder. No offence - youtube is just a hard business and google not really a partner to its content producers.

      Matthias Damasty I second a lot of the comments here Matthias. I think he has made a wise choice to seek experience at a place where he will actually get some, in a field he has a genuine interest in. My niece just finished a block of 4 weeks here for a large hotel, and essentially she was used as free labor. She spent 4 days polishing spoons, and another 4 vacuuming, hardly an 'experience ' in the hotel industry. Good to see some ambition in creating a job for himself rather than conforming to a role that wont make him happy. In my experience those who dont have University degree or a Trade, working for themselves in 'Highly Skilled' roles are generally better at it for the passion / interest they actually have. How many accountants do you know that rave about their job?

    Pleo's pricey, but awesome either way Dave, I think you should most likely tear down the brown body part as that most likely has clips and screws holding it together. The legs are a pain to assemble and are already transparent.

    ID's main reason for not being fond of Nintendo is because the founders, John Romero and John Carmack, continually proposed ideas to Nintendo to extend their market to PC games but they displayed no interest and were quite snobby about it. ID would poke fun at Nintendo any chance they got.

    • @MrTripcore

      Tilman Baumann Sachen & Atari (Tengen) would have also been reasons to continue to have a lockout chip. The NES actually has a lockout chip and it came before the snes.

    • @DFX2KX
      @DFX2KX 9 лет назад

      Tripcore yeah, when you want a measure of control over the games taht come out for your system, you NEED to keep third party cartridges off the system. The Cartridge-bypass trick the SNES and N64 unlicensed games would often use is the same system Gamesharks would use to get past the lockout chip (though those also do other things)

    Ahh Blasphemy! NES had a lockout chip also and Super 3D Noah's Ark
    WAS ON THE SNES (Super Nintendo) NOT THE N64! So yeah you go back and do more research... Also the Wolfenstein 3D and ID pissed off thing is most likely just a fun rumor, they knew Nintendo's seal of quality and licensing process and violence rules long before porting the game to SNES so most likely Wisdom Tree just payed to use the engine.

    I was going to mention the Angry video game nerd too. I think id just was releasing a Super Nintendo version that's all. They do primarily PC games. The Angry video game nerd does some interesting stuff about old gaming hardware. The Jaguar CD is another really interesting one. He bought 2 of them and they both don't work. Sent it to his hardware engineering friend and he cleaned them, reconnected all wire and still couldn't get them to work. Apparently some dental company bought the Jaguar to use as a some dental camera and just spray painted the console. I was also wondering; wouldn't the cable simulator get really hot?
