  • On Monday 20th May 2024 two B-52s arrived at #raffairford for a Bomber Task Force deployment. This is GROAT11 (61-0018) arriving, it had wheels down and on final approach but a U-2 had just landed and was clearing the runway. The B-52 called a go-around and landed a few minutes later. #b52bomber #U2

      Thanks. Wish I could have got the U-2 clearer on the runway but there's always something as you know!👍

    Thinking back to Vietnam when these things were being shot down...can't believe they still have a mission on the modern battlefield. This thing is compiling a service record that will be difficult to beat when the last one has flown its last mission.

      Yup, new engines soon and the Buff could reach 100 years in service eventually...

    I suppose they'll be alot cleaner and quieter when they get their new Rolls Royce engines. I wonder if they shall have Thrust Reversers which could obsolete Parachutes?

    • @MilitaryAircraftVideos
      @MilitaryAircraftVideos  24 дня назад

      That's a very good question...the new engine is the RR F130 and the B-52 will be redesignated the B-52J, my guess is they won't design out the Chute as it gives them options, but its something I'm not sure about and will look into 👍

    Brilliant video. Well done you Sir. Will the new RR engines be smoky like these always have been? If not they won’t look 👀 as exciting.

    Why do military aircraft do go arounds before landing

    • @pjotrtje0NL
      @pjotrtje0NL 27 дней назад

      Multiple reasons: unstable approach, runway occupied, training, and these are just a few of all options. By the way, this was a missed approach, not a true go-around.

    • @MilitaryAircraftVideos
      @MilitaryAircraftVideos  27 дней назад +1

      @@pjotrtje0NL Nope, it was called a go-around on the day (runway occupied as you say above). I was there and heard the transmission!👍

    • @aveghi9636
      @aveghi9636 26 дней назад

      @@pjotrtje0NL thanks for the reply. I understand all the reasons you stated which would normally happen for a civil airliner and military, but military aircraft for whatever reason don't normally land on first approach, whether it is a military thing to check for hosiles I don't know.

    • @MilitaryAircraftVideos
      @MilitaryAircraftVideos  26 дней назад +2

      @@aveghi9636 many military fighters (and some bombers) tend to do a run and break by overflying the field or parallel to it in order to reduce speed and line up to land into the wind, it also avoids them having to approach the airfield traffic pattern at low speed, this of course is different to a go-around. Civilian airliners tend to line up on the ILS and overflying the airfield in such a fashion is unnecessary at their lower speed and it would cause all sorts of ATC issues and congestion!
