Incredible Revival: Residence Reborn with Modernist Architecture

SAOTA's Stradella project in Los Angeles is a remarkable renovation of a 1970s house in Bel Air. Perched on a promontory, the property offers breathtaking views of the Los Angeles basin, capturing the complete panorama from downtown to Century City, with mountains to the east and the ocean to the south.
To meet the client's requirements, SAOTA dismantled the existing house down to its wooden skeleton, maximizing square footage and creating generous openings to harness the light and views of the West Coast. The approach of "bringing the outside in" is evident in all aspects of the project, from layout to facade design, landscaping, and lighting.
The arrival facade was reimagined as a sculptural composition, with empty stone walls engraved with vertical screens, inviting the gaze both inside and out. Internally, the spaces are light-filled and connected, with glass walls maximizing the views. A new linear canopy extends the property, providing spaces for dining and outdoor relaxation.
The material palette balances warm, natural tones with crisp, linear forms, characteristic of modern architecture. The landscaping was designed to enhance the lush environment, with palm trees and low plantings creating functional outdoor spaces and unobstructed views of the horizon. Additionally, the house was designed with a sustainable approach, using eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient technologies. Carefully designed lighting accentuates the architecture, while landscaping complements the lush environment.
In summary, SAOTA's Stradella project is a contemporary reinterpretation of Californian modernism, transforming an existing house into a high-level residence that celebrates Los Angeles' unique landscape.
