How many days before we should start making it cuz drying and colouring process could be lengthy. And if someone is not artist or not exert in sculpture making can he be able to make it

Yes even beginners can do it easily. Please start it at least 1 week ago. If you do not finish idol in one day , cover idol with wet cloth.

After kneading the clay, should it be kept for rest for one day or is it necessary to start making the murti immediately?

it is not necessary to keep the dough rest for 1 day and also not necessary to start immediately, do it as per your convenience. I did half idol on the same day and completed it on next day with same dough.

first make a square shape palm , then add 4 fingers one by one on top it and then fold the fingers as you need. and then add thumb and give it a shape of thumb. I hope this helps
