100% agreed, I pre-ordered the game, upon having the PSN bs, I just refunded it, EVEN THOUGH I am PS5 owner myself and have a PSN account, just doesn't sit right with me at all.....and then well, acquired the game by interesting means XD
I had issues buying games on Steam before. Example: I recently bought lollipop chainsaw, and the servers were having issues. Tried on app desktop phone data, which didn't matter. You can't have things work 24/7. Maintenence exists. It refused to let me buy it so I bought it next morning. Even steam can't live up to 24/7, and none of my internet had issues.

Refuse to make a PSN account by the sheer fact that in the UK it is mandatory to link an official form of photo ID, I can't trust Sony with basic info and the TOS states that you can be banned for putting in fraudulent information, so I did the next best thing and blacklisted future Sony titles after the Helldivers incident.
Just make an account for a different country. You don't even need a VPN. I made a Japanese account back in the day

This is what truly boggles my mind about the account linking thing. Sony had a chance to dive into markets that can't legally obtain PSN accounts to play their games by bringing them to PC, but instead they chose to continue to block these markets, thus all those potential buyers can truly do is just pirate these games, thus an instant loss of revenue for Sony.
All they had to do was make it optional. Give people incentives to join. Those that can't or choose not to can still play the games. Those who can get a few extra benefits. Win/win. But we all know at this point Sony has lost their collective marbles.
This right here would have made this a complete non issue. But of course some executive just has to pad PSN numbers so a sensible course of action is not taken.

People have too many accounts to deal with, no one likes having to sign in to EA or Ubi or Rockstar if you are buying the game on Steam or Gog. It is even worse if you happen to live in a region where PSN isn't available to begin with. It was already a known thing over a decade ago that you shouldn't require an account to order something from an online shop because that could drive away customers and this was before password managers and the like became mainstream.
Companies really need to stop all of these transparent attempts to lie to their shareholders about how popular their services are. People with the rigs to care about Playstation releases on PC are not going to go buy Playstations, they already have them if they care enough to buy them at all. The upper management needs to stop lying to their shareholders about that being a thing.
Last of Us, Ghost of Tsushima and now this - these are the games I decided not to buy because of PSN account requirement. I'd love to check them, but there are other games and I'm sick of getting another pointless account

I'm getting really confused. As most I was aware this game was going to require PSN account linking and was upset about it, but recently a channel that covers games' performances on the Steam Deck played and I asked how it was handling the linking part (because there were claims that wasn't going to work on the Deck anymore) to which I was told that it was still optional in GOW: R.

A 2 year old game, releasing at $60 and requiring giving personal data to a company that has been hacked multiple times, plus it is a single player game requiring an online connection. This is not glass half full. Sony isn't porting to PC to be nice and embrace PC users. PC video game market is now estimated to be at $40.4 Billion in 2023 it is expected to grow to $150 Billion over the next 10 years. We are no longer little Oliver holding out his bowl asking for me. We are not begging for Sony ports, they want into our market. And we as consumers are absolutely right to set our demands where we want them! I am not saying boycott, but 100% if you don't want to get pulled into another "Service" subscription or foul practices don't touch them until they change their practices.
There was a couple of years where Breath of the wild came out, Horizon's Zero Dawn, Persona 5, God of War remake, etc. were all coming out and it felt a little bad being "Just a PC gamer". But their exclusives taught us to wait, to make do, to find the indi games, and the markets have come to us. So many people have refused to get dragged into the Ubisoft store that they're games HAD to come back to steam (Still the DRM attached BUT we are setting the limits.) Same with EA Sony, Microsoft has fully embraced PC gaming and Sony will learn as well.
Just remember it is never as bad or as good as it sounds on the internet.

I normally don't mind account linking, but the last time it was for a PSN account, they got kind of personal and asked stuff I didn't think was any of their business, so I think I might stay away from PSN games going forward.

It's absolutely ridiculous that you have to sign up for PSN or sign in, just to play a single player game that has no aspect of multiplayer what so ever. Even for the ones that do have multiplayer, it still makes no sense other than them collecting data of you. Sony has been going downhill for ages now but this is just another level of low

The PSN linking is optional, the problem is the game is unavailable to purchase in 172 or so countries.
My issue with the accounting link isn’t the need for a PSN account (honestly it’s not a big deal but people are still going complain).
No, my main complaint is how it locks out an entire segment of the PC platform just due Sony not supporting PSN in other regions which comes off as being height of human stupidity. What’s the point of limiting yourself and not expanding into more regions.
I understand people that don't want one because of privacy concerns, as in some countries you need a photo ID to make that account, and sony is prone to get a big hack each X years, people don't want to risk their info to get breached.
Also, I'm from one of the 167 countries without psn, you can make the account if you have access to a ps4 or ps5, but even that is not enough as steam will not even let you buy the game, and no, vpn are a risky solution because both steam and play station terms of service reserves them the right to ban your account if they find out you're using one.
To add to the "they just dust off a PS5 to play the exclusives," not only are they not the audience for PSN they also aren't getting a Pro and they most likely got the PS5 secondhand from Gamestop or Ebay.
The Vram restriction situation is funny because Pirate websites have already made a bypass mod and my cousin is playing it with a gtx 1650. I asked him to show the fps performance and with the help of FSR balance, the game was running 60 fps smooth.
Limiting how many people can buy your game is sad. I understand why they want people to sign in with psn. It should be available worldwide. If they can't make it available everywhere, they need to not require it. They need to incentive people logging in to psn. Crossplay and online, it makes sense. I wish Sony had spent 400 million on making games more available instead of concord.

I never had to even log into PSN for God of War Ragnarok ... or any of the other games, Horizon Forbidden West and Ghost of Tsushima ..unless im just not being forced to as a Linux gamer. ... I launch the game and go right to start new game, no pop ups or any of that crap to try forcing me to log into PSN.
They're making singleplayer games legally unplayable for so many people for really stupid reasons. My region isn't supported by PSN, so I can't buy HD2, Ghost of Tsushima OR GoW Ragnarok. So now Im just forced to sail the high seas. Thanks sony.
I’m OK with Sony wanting to be integrated with PC market. But they have to do it the right way. They come in thinking that we are thinking like most ponies do, and will just eat whatever crap they feed us without question, but they fail to realize that we are much smarter than that and actually care about our wallets. Plus, we are a little a bit more hardened on personal security and will hold them accountable for data breaches. So once they figure that out and play ball, we can have a great relationship.
I have no issues with what other people choose to do, but I will not purchase a game that requires PSN account linking. Here is why:
1. Sony lied. With Helldivers they claimed they only wanted to require the account linking so that they could protect the Sony players in group play and they would not do this for purely single player games. I don't reward liars.
2. Sony has a terrible track record for protecting personal data.
3. If you take a deeper look into the negative reviews on Steam, MANY people who DO have an old PSN account are not able to log in and the support for fixing this is nonexistent.
4. Sony, like Ubisoft and other big studios, are struggling to make a profit off of their largest AAA games. It is the height of stupidity to sacrifice sales by forcing us to log into accounts we don't need just to purchase and play their games. If I, like other players, do not bend on issues like this they will cave or they will fail. It is also the reason I will rarely if ever pay full price for a game that is intentionally held back from the PC. It is totally fine to have timed exclusives, but don't expect me to pay full price if you make me wait a year. There are plenty of other publishers that won't treat me like a second class citizen.
Sony would do well to fix their inability to compete with a PC. I can play PC games from the late 70s in 2024 on a PC.
Sony intentionally deleted small navigation HTML files so that I can’t even play PS3 games that I downloaded in 2016. It would almost be OK if I had access to my PS3 Library on the new PS 5 Pro and it would not only allow me to play my previously purchased games but also PS1 and PS2 backwards compatibility. Until they do that as a bare minimum, there’s absolutely no reason to even consider another console purchase if I know that in another 8 to 10 years, they’re just going to block Access from downloading my games again. It speaks to extremely shady business practices if Sony refuses to play by the rules that everyone else does who can sell their games worldwide.
Man, wonder how bad this will be if Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine game also have this restriction on PC in the future or every future release of Playstation exclusives.

I think this is way less about account linking and more about how there was virtually zero advertising for GOW Ragnarok and lots of games are releasing right now... compare the ads to Ghost of Tsushima and its night and day

They need to stop the games demand you to have an account for Sony or Xbox. Demanding an account link causes problems for players just to play the game. Minecraft has gotten worse with Xbox demand you to make an account just to play it. Most of the maps they sell in the store, the game keeps crashing and unable to play on PS5 and Switch. Minecraft ran better and didn't crash as much until Microsoft made it mandatory just to play it. Sony making it mandatory just to play makes it harder just to play the game. Steam Deck is a pain in the ass to play a game that requires you to download a program just to start the game. If they don't want people pirate the games, they have Steam installed which already verifies the games before they play them.
To all of you people who have PSN in your countries, pls give a negative review at STEAM for Sony and God of War RAGNAROK. Be voices of millions of us who does not have PSN at our countries. We talking about 120 countries at least. This way u helping us and making us all equal in terms of playing games and availability to buy them. Just remember how Helldivers 2 players fought for themselves and the other players where they were kicked out because of PSN account linking. Be our voices because we can not say anything at Steam about that. There is no option to do it. Let SONY learn lesson on much harder way. Thanks to all of you who will support us.

Live in the Bahamas, Can't sign up for PSN, so I sailed the 7 seas and got the game.
Not gonna lie, the game is so boring Sony games are normally just interactive movies, but this is even worse than that after 2 hrs I shut the game down and haven't loaded it back up since. Keep in mind, i had fun with God of War (2018), Spider-Man 2018, Returnal and the first Horizon Game. Don't know what the hell Sony did with this game.
The problem is that most countries are not supported by sony which makes the games like Hell Divers 2 and GOW ragnarok unavailable.

Account linking is a deterrent to me but it won't automatically stop me from purchasing a game. I never buy games with DRM bloatware/malware attached to them.

Sony has been loved internationally, touted over Xbox in most smaller markets.

The same info that having a psn account is the same info steam has. Not a big deal for most countries 🤷🏽♂️. EA and other games make you sign in with an account for other games. Sure it’s single player. But it’s not the end of the world
3060 shouldn’t have an issue, I’m running on a 5900x with a 6900xt and it’s AWESOME running a 34 inch wide at 2.7k no complaints. Set on ultra it’s pulling 100+ with frame gen it’s cracking way higher, frame gen is working great in my opinion, a lot better than FN star-field with the screen flickering.
The best place to play Playstation games is a PS5, no need to worry about drivers or VRAM.

I really wonder if god of war ragnarok being almost unreplay-able do to CERTAIN story sections (being 25 hours long) has anything to do with this, God of war 2018s pc release HAD to of had a bunch of double dippers and I can’t imagine even half of them would come back to willingly replay this for 60$.
I havent touched my ps5 since two months after i bought it back in 2020, i much prefer to game on my pc. However psn linking wont stop me from playing any playstation games on steam, but it wont make me dust off my ps5 either.
10 hours of GoW Ragnorok, Ultra settings with a R7 7700 and 7900xtx and it's 150-180fps (I think 180 is the cap), and it's possibly the best looking game I've ever played. The PSN account linking is crap though, if you're wiser than me you should NOT support SONY's anticonsumer antics.

Last time I touched my PS5 was 2 years ago. Bought the bundle of ps5 with the regala edition of forbidden west it’s been collecting dust since. I HATED the game with controller, played it again on my pc and love it. I’m just not big on the controllers as an adult anymore. Keyboard and mouse is a lot easier on my hands.

Honestly easy work around. Make a second steam account. Use vpn for say usa. Buy game. Make bogus psn. Then family share game.

SBI/DEI detected in this game. I bought this game 6 months ago for my PS5 and had it on my backlog... sadly I later discovered that SBI worked on the game and race switched a Scandinavian Godess. I imagine there may be much more woke stuff on the game, so I deleted it this week from my library... that's how you throw 70 bucks to the garbage.
They can keep doing it, I still got it from the bay 💀💀
