Great instructions! I have only one comment to add: when you make one of the first moves, i.e. the one from 1'50", you should notice, that the model has NO MIRROR symmetry, and you need to remember the position of the model with the first two corners flapped under. If it is like "tip on 11, tip on 5" it will give a right chiral star, if it is positioned like "tip on 1, tip on 7" (mirror symmetry) you get a left chiral star. And it is really important to make ALL the 30 pieces in the same exact fashion (meaning same initial position). Check out :)

This was such an awesome tutorial! Thank you. So well done. I made this out of 4-inch squares of Christmas wrapping paper as a star for the top of my tree. One great thing about this pattern is that it's very tolerant of the slight imperfections that come with paper squares that have been cut out with scissors. Double-sided wrapping paper would be even prettier! Thank you again for this fantastic video. 🎉

Dude, I learned how to make a modular star that looks just like this, but the units are harder to fold and you basically have to glue to keep them there. Thank you for saving me from that D:

Wonderful, definitely one of the better modular origami videos out there. Thank you for marking the folds with a dotted line, that helped a lot.
One small correction, your tags have this listed as a dodecahedron. This is actually a stellated icosahedron. Same number of edges (30), but it has 20 faces (or spikes in this case) instead of the 12 found in a dodecahedron. :)

  • @WVsarahham

You have dashed lines on the white side of the paper. Is that necessary, or is that just so the creases show up on the video?

  • @Emxicey1

@KarlosSlade Use Any paper as long as it's not too thin. You can use regular white paper but it might be a bit too thin. Try and get colored photo copy paper or the heavier inkjet paper. Cardstock will also work, except it looks a bit more detailed as in you can see the folds when you finish it.

The point of 'making that triangle' is to insert
deeply into two faces, means the top's form is sharp.
I hope you try again, and never forget to down them
