    I absolutely overthought the first few times I pushed/pulled/jacked/winched a building. My takeaway is that wood frame structures are surprisingly flexible and give lots of warning before something bad happens. 👍

      Yeah. I couldn't hear any of that creaking and cracking from the truck and was thinking about pulling further. Then I watched the video and was like--yikes!

    No matter how thick the 2x is, you went against the strong point, sideways. Use unistrut, anchor and a puller/wire come along. Saves you half the time. Not knocking your work. Just something to consider on your next structural job

    Using a ratchet strap as a winch with that much tension on it is dangerous. I know I guy that used one in similar situation and the ratchet broke apart and a piece took out one of his eyes. Even wrapping anything around a ball hitch is dangerous, people have been killed when towing a vehicle like that when the ball breaks off and flies through the vehicle into the back of their head.

      True. Very dangerous. I was worried the hook was going to come through the back window.

      Haha. Yeah the one in this video was leaning a bit too, thought about offering to fix it for the new owner. All the best on your project, Harry!

    Why couldn’t you just jack it up and push it back onto the foundation?

    I need to get this done to but what is the thing between the button plate and slab?

    • @FamilyFriendlyDIY
      @FamilyFriendlyDIY  11 месяцев назад

      There shouldn't be anything there, unless you have a sill sealer. The bottom plate should be resting on the slab.

      @@FamilyFriendlyDIY only thing I can find online is either foam or fiberglass insulation. What was there looks like it was a roll of tar. The boards sit about 3/8 inch off the slab. Built in the 60s of that helps.

      @@davegravel3740 it almost sounds like they used a roll of asphalt shingle starter strip. It's probably because the original bottom plate wasn't treated lumber, so they had to keep the wood from wicking moisture through the concrete.

    I dont know but why not wearing boots?

    • @FamilyFriendlyDIY
      @FamilyFriendlyDIY  3 года назад

      I don't have any. I used to have a job (loading dock) where I had to wear steal-toe boots all the time, and they definitely saved my toes multiple times, but I haven't found the benefit to outweigh the discomfort in general repair work. Thanks for the comment, Mystery Tour.

    You should have released the pressure on that 2 x 12. It was bent along with the wall and when you pulled it straight you put tension on the board.

      Yeah that's a good point that's why I like doing jobs with 2 people you get another view point or idea that can save bunch of time or job. I deff give him credit tho doing this one solo but heck no I wouldn't have accepted this job by my self.

    Love the new power tools, I need that impact driver in my life. Please don't get rid of the DeWalt though that's the kind of old school reliability you can't get now.
    Good work on the wall, I don't think I would have had the same level of patience, especially in that heat.

      Thanks Craig. Yeah, it was so hot I was about to say forget the video let's just get it done and get outta here.--and I'll definitely be keeping the DeWalt as a backup!
