@@deansummerton2577 Good to hear Dean. We normally think of the day as a 3 or 4 hour event, but really it's about 5 or 6 😂 Hoping for a good day, let's see
Great to plan and visualize race day, Matt. Leave nothing to chance. Too much time and emotion invested in the training journey not to go through this vital part of the journey. You've enjoyed much success, so that in and of itself validates your approach. Can't wait to see you crush Valencia. When will the race and date be confirmed? I'm aware of the damage outside the city area ...
@@RunFreeandStrong thanks Reto 😃 I'm not sure but they are proceeding as if it's happening so let's see. The race track area is fine, but Moto GP event on the 17 Nov has been cancelled. Although that's further away.
Amazing run that. And we had to smile at the thoroughness of walking around for half an hour to simulate race day. Perhaps frontloading the carbs works better than getting the liquid in piecemeal?
@@tworunningbrooms thanks, yeah the extra walk is a bit boring 😆 I'd like to front load the carbs, just hard to know if the body accepted it or just passed right though. I'd like to test more but not doing this one again so soon.
So this video is really useful for me. I need to get the carb load right. I ate a lot before Frankfurt but for Manchester I think I'll try and get an apartment so I can do a lot of pasta and rice the day before. I would advise against trying your own drinks. I tried it at Frankfurt with the drinks tables and never saw any of them. It's more to worry about. I'll go back to Maurten drinks plus electrolytes before the race. During I'll do Maurten gels and salt stick chews. That keeps it easy plus have a few sips of water. Is the focus 90 the one you use for cramp?
@@kennyosborne5835 great input thanks Kenny ! I've had salt chews before but they are not strong enough, don't quite get me out of jail 😁 The Focus90 isn't for cramp but I use crampfix which am Australian product, you can buy from xmiles in the UK, maybe amazon too (green and black colour for the original one). But no cramp on this one with a pretty hard effort 😃😃
Impressing how much time and effort you invest. I have not that much time... so for me last long run I did (yesterday) was 32km with increasing pace each 8km. Plan was 5:15-5:00-4:45-4:30. It was in reality: 5:03-5:00-4:45-4:30 and I was feeling good at the end. It really boosted my confidence, I will for sure run 4:37 to end 3:15 in Valencia and I hope to speed up a bit. I think that your training was extreme, how long do you recover after such run - do you take one or two days off?
@@LeszekDeska thanks Leszek, I saw your run yes, your looking strong. I've built this up gradually over the last 6 months so the legs feel okay (no perfect of course) I'll try to run a slow recovery jog today for half an hour or so. I'll have a normal week, about 5 runs this week. and I really don't have much time, that's why I was up before 5am 😂 Alot of sacrifices made for the running lark
@@RunThePlanet yes, same here :) but I never got up so early to run :) I'm also doing 5 runs a week, this will be a special week for me however as on Monday I'm racing 10k (Independence Run on 11th Nov which is a public holiday in Poland). I need to rearrange my long run this week and will most likely do it on Friday. All the best Matt, we have less than four weeks only :) !
3k seems excessive before a marathon. Remember on tapered legs you will feel super fresh so you can afford to warm into the race. A few minutes with a couple of strides is usually enough. Again, my opinion and if 3km works for you then fair one
@@andydevinewine thanks Andy 😃 usually I do 2k, there's some walking in that 3k I think as well. I've done no warmup too in a couple recent maras and like you say use the start as a warmup. Are you training for something ? Valencia too maybe ?
Really insightful Matt. Thank you for taking us through it. I do similar for a Marathon race day with my last long run. You deserve success.
