Bastl Pizza - This tiny, all-in-one complex oscillator voice is amazing for eurorack bass lines

  • As I have been dialing in my small eurorack system I have been on the search for small modules that sound great and remain performative. Skip the menu diving, let me play with the knobs and get great sounds quick. The Bastl Pizza has done just that for me.
    Sure, you can dive deeper than the panel shows and set up some more unique ratios and get some different sounds, but for me, this thing is exactly what I need when it comes to bass for my live eurorack performances. With one hand I can go from a tight plucky FM sound to a gnarly growl worthy of the best subs the club can offer and back again with ease. It has some clever features that make it easy and really fun to perform with.
    I love this module.

    I used to have a Hertz Donut in my case, switched it out for a Bastl Pizza when it released, I was looking for a similar FM/Complex oscillator with multiple outs and a wide range of sounds, but that was more "hands-on" and potentially smaller.
    I do miss some of the gnarlier sounds that the Hertz Donut can produce, but the Pizza has been a delight! I've installed the new firmware and haven't yet explored the VCA and envelope functions, but you've got me thinking that maybe I should!

    Yes!!!! Love my Pizza and this shows just how much you get in so few hp. It astounds me the it’s only 2hp more than MCO and is so hands on with that octave knob and sliders. Thanks for the sweet video! So good to see more from ya. Love it!

    Best real world demo of the Pizza and looks just as much fun as a BIA so I might add one. Love the set up and I’ve gone with a Launch Control for performance now too.

      Thank you! It’s as fun and performative but has a different use-case for me so I’m looking forward to getting the new BIA and using them together. Cheers!

    Haha the CC said you said 88hp and now I'm imagining how much fun 11 of these would be.

    Cool vid! Had really overlooked this module.... damn, another thing to add to the every growing list! (My musical collaborator Grace has the Pizza Basil - which is very cool, so I shouldn't be surprised by this, should I???)

      This one is a sample in Assimil8or doing the 4 on the floor heaviness and then the crater is doing in-between hits for extra rhythm in the low mids

      @alx-106  10 месяцев назад +2

      Yep! I just made the switch over this week so still getting used to it. I used it religiously a few years ago and now that you can use all the novation controllers with it, I decided to give it another shot. I plan on doing some videos on my experience and Modular integration with it as soon as I can!

      @@alx-106 Excellent. I’m a few years into Bitwig and it’s just at that point since v5 where it’s kinda matured into something properly awesome. I’ve done a bit of hybrid modular with it, but I’m really interested in which elements really benefit from being hands on proper hardware and what’s better done in the box

    • @alx-106
      @alx-106  10 месяцев назад

      @@Jimantronic totally! Yeah, so far it’s nice to offload bread and butter fx to the computer. Bitwig’s reverb took me a minute to figure out but I think I’ve got it sounding pretty good right now… trying to use as much stock stuff as I can before reverting to VSTs… I’m also excited to see where the integration fits best so I can get more exciting modules as I definitely gravitate towards the easy simple stuff.

    Hey why are you not using bitwig for live performance? What is it missing thats pushing you to ableton?

    • @alx-106
      @alx-106  9 месяцев назад

      I have just now started using Bitwig again in general. I was using Ableton because I like the Novation controllers and Bitwig didnt have scripts for the Launchcontrol and Launchpad mk3. Now that it has those, I am making the transition, but it's a little slow.
      I honestly love both for different reasons. I wouldnt say that Bitwig is missing anything other than the time I need to put into making my project for it. I havent been as focused on live since I've been home from all the shows I did over summer, so there is a bit of just laziness and familiarity taking over.
