If this question was asked to an Asian kid they would have answered it in less than 20 seconds. Since students are taught to find their own ways of finding answers in an easy way. I knew the answer even before the question explanation was done.
If this took 2 minutes for an Asian kid to solve they must be very young or not Asain lol. I'm in 8th grade and solved this in (no exaggeration) 5 seconds. (I'm Indian-American)

Should have factored out the equation to show how to actually get the answers rather than guess and check lol. Don't get me wrong, guess and check is necessary especially to cut out a lot of fluff on timed tests to save time for complex problems, but what happens when your test isn't multiple choice ;)

b) is the answer for y² - 4 = 0.
Third binomial formula:
y² - 2² = 0
(y + 2)(y - 2) = 0
y = -2 ∨ y = 2
