Hey man, really nice riding and love your downhillbike paint job and matching helmet and goggles😍. But I have a little question. Do you think that a 175mm/180mm full suspension (Canyon Torque AL 5.0) is too much travel for XC riding. Im of course planning to go and downhill with that bike and some bikeparks. But besides those tracks, is a Freeride bike capable on the XC trails? Maybe you can help. Cheers
Hi Luke, For bikeparks and DH a 180 Bike would be perfect, but as you say realistically it wouldn’t be the best for xc, mainly the geometry of the bike wouldn’t be ideal for climbs etc even if you could lock the forks and shock out.
Besides that if you still want a Freeride/Enduro/AM MTb don´t go for the Torque 5.0. Some of them keep having issues with the rear triangle and Canyon is slow to respond. Either go for the carbon version of the Torque which seems to have less issues or just go for YT Capra/Jeffsy or for best value Vitus Sommet. Cheers :)
The big differences are DH Bike has dual crown forks, trail bike has single crown. DH bike is typically 200mm travel front and rear whilst trail is usually around 160ish. DH bikes are usually a few degrees slacker than a than a trail bike. DH bikes are usually a few Kg heavier than a trail bike.
I‘m overbiked too. When i bought my mtb i never thought i would go to a bikepark, so i bought a 130mm travel trailbike. Few weeks later i went to a bikepark 🙈. 130mm is not enough for the bikeparks near my hometown. I didnt want to sell my trailbike for an enduro because it fits perfect to me and i like it a lot. So i bought a new downhill bike with fox 40 factory and other good components 😂. I‘m not the fastest, i don‘t hit big jumps and i have never jumped a drop. If i couldnt afford this bike i never have bought it. I think its worth every cent but if i had an enduro i would never bought a downhill bike. Sorry for my bad english, i hope you could understand what i wrote 😜
I like short and sweet action packed content like this! That berm turn footage on the DH bike was amazing!
Great video Deaks, good to see the comparison of the bikes and look at some line choice.
It’s insane watching how you ride trails that I’ve ridden. It makes you realise how fast you guys are travelling! Props!!
Got suggested on my home page, loved the vid, subbed 🤟🏼

What was your favourite Bonkers mix that you did?
I´ll definetely get a DH bike. Ben a question, what car are you using to transport the bikes and yourself?Didnt saw it well, is it a mini van?
Lets see you do it on the Trailstar next time...,

@@BenDeakinMTB so it is not recommended to ride a Freeride bike on XC trails

99percent of the time people are overbiked on DH bikes
Couldn’t agree more
Ye that's the truth - I race XC, DH and Enduro on my single 150mm travel Whyte S-150-S
