Have you thought about 2v2 dogfights in the merge? I think learning about how to cooperate with teammates in high stress environments would be interesting
Agreed. A 2 × 2 engagement where each side has a wingman would be a super-interesting knife fight in a telephone booth. Given the outcome three videos ago with GS flying an F-15 and went up against *two* F-4C's, it’s clear wingmen are important. It would be nice if GS at least addressed in his commentary the likelihood of having a wingman in a given tactical situation.
I know it must be monotonous at times, but I appreciate you constantly sharing the same information (TWS/STT, gaining altitude before launching, speed bleeds missile energy, etc...) in your videos. I have the memory of a goldfish, so that really helps.
This was awesome mate, thanks. I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone explain the Flanker HUD so well before. I've heard references so I knew it displayed the info & I noticed the radar displaying dots to lock. So thanks for filling the gaps, one video at a time ❤
You sure minimized the work that last Fox2 had to do. It didn't even have time to go "okay, where am I? What am I looking for.... Hey look an Eagle! BaM!" Great positioning! Coulda hit it with unguided rockets.
@Michael Harrison By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation.
@Spetsnazovets I recognize that. My point is that the Eagle is particularly bright even considering that, because it's A. Large for a single-seat fighter and B. Has some seriously powerful engines. I mean, this is the bird that sometimes got called the "Flying Tennis Court" because of its size. And it doesn't have considerations for reduced IR signatures because that wasn't really a concern in the 1970s when it was designed.
Hi! Many thanks for your videos! They are really fun and instructive. I want to thank you specifically for all sort of sounds, beeps, dongs, tangs, that came out of the cockpit and you explain to all of us. That’s really interesting!
I love it when BVR fights eventually merge. It ramps up the intensity knowing that the fewer Fox 3's you have, the more and more likely the merge will occur, so when it does happen, the dynamics change completely.. well done!
Hey GS! How do you know so much about what feels like every jet ever? We’re you a pilot? Or were you ever going to be a pilot? Or do you just know a ton about aviation? I’m relatively new-ish to the channel, I’ve been watching for about 3/4 months now and I love the content. Thank you!
hello, no I was never a pilot I simply know these things from watching docs, learning the aircraft in DCS and also having access to real pilots who were nice enough to teach me what they are allowed to say publicly, and a little bit of trial and error on my own part.
@@georgeb9088 since he hasn't replied yet, you should look at his channel and search for his setup videos, he's done more than one since his setup has been updated over time. The gist of it is either a Thrustmaster or InWin HOTAS from their equivalent competing lines, along with maybe some mounting kit if you don't want to just put your setup on your desk and move your keyboard out of the way. It seems like most people like having their mouse on hand as well too allow interaction with the physical systems in many of the Soviet jets which aren't fully HOTAS compatible anyway, but I also don't play DCS yet myself, nor do I have a HOTAS setup either (kind of the main reason I haven't started, no funds)
#1.The clouds are neat- you should do more dogfights in unusual scenery, like cloudy mountains! #2. YAY, been wondering for EONS when you'd use the IRST systems to try to sneak up on a opponent with out using your radar ! Though you'd want ot be ...in mountains or somewhere where their fighter radar can't see you, and the enemy AWACS is still a problem if you dont have any hypersonic mach 5 extreme range missiles to fling at it..... #3. It's neat seeing you use the flanker at it's max speed- here's hoping we get more max-speed action from you Cough maybe fly a foxbat or foxhound sometime while trying this! cough Solid performance!
Really great ‘play-by-play’ GS! Dudes like you who can “Do” … and are willing and gifted at “teaching” … are rare and rightfully become legends in whatever world they inhabit.
Wow, when you give details of the systems inside of an aircraft, the video becomes so much interesting and gripping to watch! I love it when you explain this does that, this means that. Thanks for the hardwork :)
As far as I know, what has been made public, the F22 has no electro optical site. The F35 does and it is one of the very few advantages it has over the F22.
I'd love to see the F-15E and EX mods be finalized and used more often. Would definitely be interested in watching 1v1 with full load outs for each. Pretty sure the F-15 can carry something like 20-22 AMRAMMs. And if you had 2v2 with a pusher load and a missile truck load I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be very easy to beat that combo with competent pilots that could really fly the F-15 at her limits.
yes that's true but putting 20 missiles on a jet makes it slow too so the effectivity of each missile would be less when fired. So the bandit would be able to defeat the missile and commit onto you early.
Yours is the kind of build that beginners on DCS do. It's a common pitfall. Loading a jet that much makes defeating missiles really easy and makes you easy prey.
Thank you for letting me know about the little LA detail and the within range thing. Always thought that you had to know the missile personally before when knowing which distance to fire at XD.
Thanks for all the explanations you include. I've learned a lot from your after action reviews in your older videos and the little bits you include during the fights
Loved the video @Growling Sidewinder! Can't wait for the next video man! Day 2 of Asking for 4 F-14 Tomcat's against 4 Su-27 Flanker's over the South Atlantic! It looked like you got the Eagle right in the Center of Mass as well at the end!
I learned a lot from GS to the point that today, i somehow managed to avoid an F-22 with my Su-27, no bullseye from both party despite me literally slinging those R-77, but it's an achievement being able to escape from such a monster without having to eject =]
Another "mission" of a loyal wingman concept would be a "third party" hand off for a Fox-3. It would keep the pit bull mode off while the launch vehicle could notch sooner. The target wouldn't be sure of a missile launch until the absolute last minute. It would also keep an AWACS safer vs. a data link guided missile.
Would this variant of the Su-27 be the SM2 or SM3? Considering those are the modernized variants of the Su-27 Flanker. I really enjoy these videos GS because as a kid, I really enjoyed researching military aircraft. My all time favorite was the F-14 Tomcat 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼. Air Combat made me love aviation and wanted to learn more about military aircraft and aircraft in general. Now I'm pretty knowledgeable due to always researching and learning new things. Considering the F-15 is undefeated, it would be a very intriguing scenario to see the Eagle and Flanker collide. Its like to collide, not in U.S or Russian hands, but possibly the countries that have the export versions of these amazing and phenomenal 4th Generation Fighters
Great fight. These BVR matches between dissimilar but near-equal aircraft usually turn out to be edge-of-the-seat tooth grinders😅. This one was definitely all that.
First off as usual love this channel. It has become my favorite channel. My thought is on these bvr fights is anyone else amazed at the amount of missiles both planes fire that never get close to the other plane? 6:01 I am at 6:01 and I think they have both fired 2 each. Is that normal in engagements like this? I never knew they would go through that much ordnance to get a kill.
Love watching these videos. I learn a lot. But after watching so many I feel like you need better competition or you're absolutely the best DCS pilot living.

Helps that the Eagle is a huge, bright IR source.
the missile never had to do that in the first place because the missile always knows where it is because it knows where it isn't.
@Michael Harrison By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation.

Splash 1 by the last missile in the tightest merge. One of the best GS uploads without doubt.
3:31 Such a beautiful camo on the Flanker

one of ur best videos! this one had it all, the bvr stalemate, the merge, the final cobra kill!
rlly goes to show how evenly matched these two aircraft really are
Hey man. Do some more videos of Flankers. Specially of Su-35. Would be great!
Next video: Su-34 vs. Russian apartment building.
😂

How about Boeing 767 vs. some skyscrapers

I dont think the F-22 has an EO system, but F-35 does. F-35 has EOTS which you can see under the chin.

Very nice use of the super maneuverability to get that shot. Was cool to see you mention about using speed brake for a one circle fight as well.

Yes, liking all the extra info / pointers and explanations! Making it harder for me all the time to resist going into DCS!
I dont know why I always root for the Su-27. Must be because I think it is one of the best looking fighters ever made.
great to see an opponent who clearly understands how to fight BVR take you all the way from BVR to the dogfight!
