Prins August - Old Steam Locomotive

- Of the oldest B-locomotives are one, Prince August, preserved. Built in 1856.
It was taken out of service in 1906, but was saved as a museum piece.
At the 100th anniversary in 1956 restored it to running condition
and are thus now one of the world's oldest executable locomotive in original condition.
The locomotive is occasionally out from their regular placement
Swedish Railway Museum in Gävle and demonstration runs
as it did 2015 May 23 at the Swedish Railway Museum 100th anniversary
This locomotive is definitely from a time where machines like this were designed to be as overengineered as they are beautiful
You would never see Liverpool & Manchester engine Lion, the Stirling Single or Hardwicke be subjected to ongoing occasional operation like this, simply because the conservation of museum stock here in Britain is considerably tighter. Clearly the message felt in Sweden, plus Switzerland and Japan, is unless you get to see museum pieces run for fair play it isn't fully worth the experience. Sweden truly is a haven for steam and I'd happily go there and take a hand at driving those beauts. Samuel F.
You are welcome to Sweden!
That turntable cant be doing those wheels any sort of service at all...
That is a very handsome locomotive. Greetings from the U.S.!
Wonderful, what a beautiful locomotive. May I have one, please?
Yes, you may!
I don’t know, caaaaaaaaaaaaaan you?
Jk
In H0 or 0 scale? ;-)
Thank you for doing all your postings ....wow what minds back then....to build as we all did in the 1800s and on such a jump...
Imagine driving that in a Swedish winter when the cab is basically a square of metal a litlte bigger than a postage stamp.
At least you have a roaring fire in front of you
You don't miss what you never had or are accustomed to.
The engine driver needs to bring an umbrella when it rains.
When men were men and the women were men! No, im neither pc nor sober :
)
@@HustleMuscleGhias like fingers? 🤣🤣
Would I be correct in guessing this beauty comes from Beyer Peacock?
Flying Scott That was my thought based on the splasher design.
You are correct
Steam engine August is nice but why drivers cabin is made open to sky.It should be closed. Thanks.
The way she smacks herself on and off the turntable is kinda funny.
WOW A MUST WATCH .....REALLY GREAT STUFF THE SOUNDS......WOOOOOO.THANK U
Thank you Bo Arabäck
Классный паровоз, стильный, как джентельмен с мануфактуры.
If someone said she was a GWR machine I'd have believed them. Heck of a jolt coming off the turntable.
She is a British build - Bayer Peacock
Beyer Peacock.
Looks more similar to a furness railway locomotive to me.
@@JintySteam1 or an early LSWR Beattie design
Quite similar to the Metropolitan 4-4-0 tanks and the Isle of Man locomotives.
Wow
KA-BOOOM!!! LOL I'll have two lumps of sugar with that Tea...
Is the locomotive British because it sure looks it to me????
Swedish. But Northern European design of the era all shared a familial resemblance.
British built - by Beyer Peacock and Co

Modern steam is far more potent than steam back then.. This thing could explode
What a charming looking loco.
lordy, i want to drive that thing! What a beauty!
The drop from the table sounds like a bit of a spring-snapper.
Amazing steam Locomotive right there!, love that Turntable by the way.
Looks like a mix of the Dutch SS 13 and HSM 89! Very interesting steam engine!
Jiskpirate especially the cab looks like 13, (zeker de cabine ziet er uit zoals die van 13)
A gem. Must be one of or perhaps the oldest working locos in the world? :-)
Yes it is
TERRYBIGGENDEN one of, yes...but defenitely not the oldest...
Prinse August beautiful! How interesting it is to be near such operating steam locomotives.
Sergey Moiseyev its "Prins" not prince
Thank you, corrected.
Your welcome 😃
Would love to see it pull a train and hear it working hard up a grade. Beautiful engine!
Man
I wish i can see it
Wow. What a magnificent locomotive. Just think of the developments in rail transport this beauty has seen. Great upload
This has a victorian style even if its not a british machine! Love it! The loco drivers and heaters have to wear large cylinder hats white gloves and black tuxedos as common in the 1860s ! :-)
It is - Bayer Peacock
Wonderfull machine!
It was built by Bayer Peacock in the UK. Just like Der Adler in Germany was built by Stephensons.
This engine's design reminds me of Fowler's Ghost, from the late 1800s.
Fowlers Ghost built in 1861, so just five years after the Prins August from Sweden. But Prins August having a conventional firebox, was much more successful although similar in outline and wheel arrangement.
Beautiful machine. I really hope SteamLocoScrapperEnthusiast isn't around.
Cab apart, that looks like a fine locomotive with many features to become standard later. Outside cylinders/inside valve gear for one.
some of them did get cabs later
Shes a doll, many thanks to all those who make it possible.
165 years old now!
Why no roof? This one can't ride when raining or what?
Uk had first
Was she first built in England?
Yes
Tjusig ånglok! Finns många fina bilder att söka i google också.
I'm guessing second oldest operational loco in the world
Oldest currently operating.
@A. Wellknownmyth Thanks!
British Beauty.
what basis was this engine?
Beyer and peacock
