Truck, Snow, FAIL HD(truck wrecks in 4ft snow drift, loader barely pulls it out)

- I am visiting friends in Maryland. Several others came to visit last night, and we tried unsuccessfully to escort them home with the 4X4 truck. We returned home at 3am, and then tried again this morning to just go in the truck.
We slid out of the road down a bank and into a snowdrift that was approximately 4ft deep. The nice thing was there was a giant front-end loader clearing a path at King Farms, and the gentleman operating it offered to pull us out. It took several attempts, but finally with truck and loader working together. We managed to pull it free.
Then we had to shovel an area large enough for the long wheelbase truck to turn around so we could return the way we came.
All in all, it was a fun experience. Plows came through later in the day, and everyone was able to return home, after shovelling the 800 ft driveway.
That was really nice of him, surprised that no one came and plowed the roads.
I can;t count the times I've helped someone out of a snowbank.. it's satisfying..
i love the guy at the start shoveling infront of the truck.... lol. dosnt matter what you drive if you find a ditch in snow your stuck. snow is amazingly dense, may as well be in concrete with out a winch... ive had my truck fall into a ditch front first and been able to stand on the road under my rear tire and not hit my head. still, its fun and hard to truly damage your truck in snow. i do find that pulling out sideways is often easier than going straight back like the loader is doing.
Right on dude it's nice to know that I am not the only one to ever spot that
That's why Ford Trucks are the best selling vehicle in the USA.
Damn Chevy. I'm not surprised. You have my sympathy.
it dont matter what tires or brand of truck you have just about everything would be stuck there.growing up in northern michigan ive been stuck many times. the only thing we would have done different was to shorten the chain and pulled from the side to jerk the ass end up on the road.
stock tires??? really??? i drive a 2002 silverado and put interco truxus on for the winter, i pulled out a truck just like yours who was plowing and slid off the road in waist deep snow. also trade that chain in for the biggest nylon strap you can find, the streatch in the strap makes tugging you out easier. love it!!!
Takes a 4 wheel truck and a driver who knows how to drive it ❄️❄️❄️❄️
When snow is that deep on the road. Three words. Wait. It. Out !
makes be glad I got the old body style without the low hanging bumpers on it.
I only know this because I watched a lot of tow truck vids, but when getting pulled from behind, you actually should turn the wheels the other way so the front wheels will steer the front end out of the ditch. The chain will pull the rear end out, so you don't need to steer it out.
That's a really good idea. I usually just pull from the front if possible. But turning the front wheels down toward the ditch, while being pulled out backwards makes sense.
hyboost
just a little word to the wise for the future. You always pull a vehicle out the same way it went in. Always, unless it is just impossible to do so. Much less chance of furthrer damage this way.
michael mckee
Every situation is different, but, in snow, I would generally disagree. For a couple reasons. 1) vehicles are designed more to plow forward than push through backwards.
Quick example : Exhaust pipes. They are easier to snag and rip off in reverse than forward. Same with mud flaps.
2) You just plowed forward though a bunch of shit, the forward damage is already done. Going backwards just gets all the stuff you missed going forward.
84 K30/M1008 6in lift on 37s. That would never happen to me.
Its all about the person driving. My dad has pulled out many 4 wheel drives with tire chains when all he had was a two wheel drive with a good motor.
Signalling the operator to lower the bucket some more...bucket is sitting on the ground. LOL
I think he was wondering where to hook the chain.
Stay home if you aren't a snow driver, you cause accidents... Snow over 10 inches give the plow crews the road unless absolutely necessary...
i thought that chevy had lockers on the rear of 4x4s? just assuming cuz everyone says they do but didnt look like the backs were spinning when fronts were on the street
@Gasser4x4 doesn't matter what truck your in if you drive off the road down into a snow bank your not going nowhere unless you have mattracks on your truck
I work on a road maintenance crew plowing the snow off the Alaska Highway all winter long and we never bother to chain our loaders. But the guys that do chain the fronts.
It's the craziest sensation, but if you would have turned the front wheels the other way (very un natural thinking) the front end of your truck would have come right out of the ditch when you were being pulled out from the rear. It works.
There is a clip on youtube of an '80's Burb pushing snow up to his hood on a city street. If I find it , I'll come back and link it, but I haven't had any luck so far. I cannot tell if it was stock, tho, since only the top part of the truck was visible.
You are so right. that type if stupidity bugs me to in some conditions it makes absolutely no diff whether it's a ford, chev, dodge, polaris, yamaha. People act like they have a personal stake in the company.
i can understand when you have to drive in bad weather, in montana we have to drive in this weather and never get stuck, its all about how you drive.
the sound of the wind is so pleasing
Russxm fhgdhydhd dhfh ufhffbhhhfhchccj
Story has it that they are still out there.
I suggest getting a Fiat Panda 4X4, they are brilliant on snow :D lightness is everything!
exactly if you ain't getting stuck you ain't trying haha
well, they're both lit on this truck, but I imagine not many people change them unless they are the ones that double as turn signals.
Snow wasn't impassible, I think they just went too fast and slid off the road. Those tires don't look like they made for snow or off pavement, either.
It wasn't out, there was just snow blocking it. But it is annoying when there is one burnt out lol.
When you get towed backwards you steered the wrong way, you should not steer like if you where driving. Keep the wheels straight or the other way cause the rear will slide sideways up on the road and if you try to steer like normal you only turn the front deeper down into the ditch and will go like that and plow the ditch forever.
And turning the wheel as sharp as he did acts more like an anchor, making it that much ardor to pull out.
Needs to watch Highway thru Hell. A lot of the time the request the stuck vehicle to use no throttle at all and keep your wheels straight.
Hey! Both parking lights are working!
Yep you bet. In southern ONT Canada we used to get similar winters but now I live in Norther B.C Canada and our snow is never live that always like sugar/powder and is much easier to deal with
.I'm from a tropical place and have been in europe. Well l thought London was cold in winter.... but can't compare with this at all.
My frend...cuando te jalan de atras la direccion apunta hacia la banquina....saludo...traduscan
I want to use a bad word to describe the brain power of the truck driver, but I won't.
If you think that's a lot of snow, you should come to Minnesota. :)
glad im not the only person who notices that lol
hell no thornbirds are about the worst tire ive seen
Or how one of the 2 alternating indicator lights is always out?
@MrLunk2 its obvious you dont understand what im talking about....the truck is in 4wd but like i said it has open differentials causing power to go to the wheel with the least amount of traction
Word of advice: when the weather is this bad, stay home.
If u get a 4 wd stuck u r fucked
Critical Cheeze 4wd can’t get out of everything, sometimes all they do is sink
Yeah from some reason the snow in Maryland has been increased, most of the time we don't get more than 7 inches the whole year.
Truck doesn't have differential locks?
with snow that deep - STAY HOME would be the smartest thing to do
getitdone1958 WHATS if you have to be rushed to the hospital?
and if you're going to be out effing around, make sure you got things like a friggin RECOVERY STRAP. morons.
It’s actually not that bad, depending on what your used to
@@johnnyappleseed738 these guys clearly were not prepared, or "used to" these conditions.
@hobbs67 Depends on what you pay for...my 2009 Silverado 1500 LTZ has a locking rear, its all in the options, if people paid more attention to the powertrain and less to the chrome they might not complain as much. But i dont that that every company that owns fleet trucks can afford that kind of option package....just like not all Fords are the King Ranch loaded edition...
Even if this truck was equipped with limited slip diffs from the factory it would not be lockers as you understand them. They would be the limited slip type not lockers
i want to live there :) I miss the snow, should have never moved to texas lol
Wow a Chevy stuck in the snow, hardly something you ever see (insert sarcasm)
Not too bad. He went alot further than most would.
Some time you have too calll it quits.
That Alisson transmission took some beating
Luckily the tractor has tire chains. Without those chains it would have not been ble to budge it.
Darn Snow ! LOL , Thumbs up liked for you.
The only reason he got stuck is because he had a break light out 😂
It's not about staying home during it it's about having the right vehicle for it
Just read the end of the description "....barely pulls it out" I was expecting something totally different.
always better to wait for the plow to go first but pickup drivers have never been guilty of over thinking anything lol
are that snow tires?
and with that snow would a Tank get stuck?
never seen that high snow
Not a z71 so there's no eaton rear locker. Nice video. Thanks. Enjoyed it
well the z71's and 4x4's come with a locker prolly had one but his tires were bad
You don't always need the Z71 package to get the eaton rear locker. I had one in a base Sierra 1500. I traded it in for a Silverado LTZ with the Z71 package.
verry nice man that pooled you guys ou nice god bless him
put chains on, you'll be golden. ditches won't give ya any problems with them pricks on and 4lo
Truck wrecks? so if I ever slide into a ditch of snow and get stuck I can tell people I wrecked my vehicle? huh.
LOL you make a good point. But I gotta say tracks have their limitations to. I've had a couple sets and they are great. But you will STILL find yourself in situations like this from time to time. :-(
It is difficult to impress that upon people. It seems counter intuitive but ya it works.
Chevrolet...Chevrolet....put in the ditch and let it set....
How much did you pay?
Because they had an issue with the battery getting too hot and it was close to the drl. That is why they always burn out.
Not sure what tires they are. It's a friends truck
should have left his wheels straight.
some drivers insist on doing everything they can to make sure the recovery is as difficult as possible. hey thanks for keeping that front end buried in the snow as long as possible, really appreciate it haha
is this a snow tyres?
You should invest in better tyres and keep then at lower pressure.
Whoa, you must be expecting some major snow if you travel around with a ladder...ha
Moisture in the lenses. LED conversion FTW!
@hombrekmata Getting pulled out cost us nothing. The loader driver was a farmer and did it just to be nice. We need more people like him in the world.
Whats up with the RWD? Just the front is spinning.
no rear locker
Vlad B open diff life
And lift slightly to give the loader more traction on the front wheels. AND turn the front wheels on the pickup in the opposite direction so that is doesn't continue to fallow the ditch. But yes you to would have been much more productive to have on the scene.
calling it a "chevy fail" would be redundant. But now I'm just being redundant.
Chevy is synonymous with fail.
Look at those tiny tires.
As others are saying: turn your wheels the other way and he would easy pulled you out backwords
the weather being that bad why be out in it in the first place..
if you only got one set of chains they go on the front tires of a loader.. what a dope
The problem is most of the loader's weight is on the back. I'll let you think about why that is.
Not only that. At the beginning, the truck had the wheels turned all wrong he was actually steering into the ditch that's why loader lost traction when the loader pulled the truck forward the truck steered in the direction it was being towed, if it steered left the loader would have lost traction too. Once you start spinning your wheels it's game over. That's why tow trucks half the size of that loader would have done better, because they would be stationary and use the winch.
you know the snow is deep if the loader can barely pull it out
wheres this 4 feet of snow you speak of......
Beautiful scenery but very dangerous.
always hook to the low side.....
This happened to me one time only about 50 yrs ago, yup I learned my lesson
What camera do you have? great quality
why did the driver of the blue pickup put it in reverse as a loaded was pulling him out that would have helped
James Trotter not really the tires on it are so bad it wouldn't make difference
Why didn't the front end loader clear the snow behind the truck first.
when you have a 4x4x truck and theres snow on the ground who the hell wants to just sit in the house wanna go out and have fun!
Pulled a guy out deer hunting once, the truck did the same thing. Almost lost it in the opposite ditch pulling him out.
2:49 why is he turning the nose of the pick up INTO the snow bank? Turn the other way and it would have walked him right out.
Snow tires will make it unstoppable
Need chains on at least the back wheels then go home until you get snow tires on your truck.
I'm from finland, i drive with my bmw 316 roads where is that much snow, and im never stuck!
Deep snow doesnt make a truck bad. That snow was deep, and i dont see much of anything going easily in it....
obvious they are rookies at driving in deep snow
Oh yeah, that was all snuggled in there. Haha.
but i thought CHEVY RUNS DEEP????
those are some tiny tires on that chevy
What part of maryland was this?
Why does EVERY chevy truck I ever see have ONE DRL out????
