    We flew Scoot from Cebu to Jeju, connecting in Singapore of course. For the price the flight was fine, we didn't expect much, but we did pay extra for "Board me First" priority boarding. The gate staff made no attempt to make that process happen until we walked to the front of the line and asked if we should be boarding first. They seemed surprised, but did let us cut the line. Then it took 3 weeks for them to find my lost bag. Would I fly Scoot again? Probably, but with everything I need in my carry-on. Thanks Kevin!

    Flown a decent amount on Scoot, and as long as you know what to expect, it’s ok. We’ve done Tokyo to Sing a couple of times, both on the 787 is what’s essentially premium economy. On the Airbus planes, Sing to Bangkok is the limit for my 6’2” frame to sit in a 28” pitch seat. What we always do, however, is compare the Scoot price, with baggage (if we need it), with SQ or Thai or whatever other mainline carriers fly the route. If there’s a fare sale on one of the mainlines, often times the prices are similar to Scoot with luggage. We check Google Flights for our comparisons.

    There it is, the thing aviation industry channels are talking about in relation to LCCs getting squeezed. The FFCs are coming down in price in economy to the point where flying a low cost airline is losing sense. Everybody knows BC pays for most of the flight cost. Baggage alone, meals and drinks can price an LLC to a full-fare airline cost. Also FFCs have better slots which helps with connectivity. If you have points/status with an FFC, did I mention lounges or upgrades?

    • @tfft
      @tfft  3 месяца назад +1

      Depends on the situation though. Personally I'm not chasing Star Alliance status at the moment. So if given the choice between $500 Scootplus and $500 SQ Economy... I'd choose Scoot all day everyday (probably even if I was chasing status).

    At SIN the sterile area is at the gates (after security) so all your drinks brought before boarding are actually brought landside. Hence no liquid allowed through security. Not many airports run like this. It just makes it easier for SIN to not have to X-ray and screen everything in the terminal. I’ve worked in airport security over 16 years. Security in Asia as a whole is a worry. Little Ctix x-rays, little body scanners, etd machines never used, poor metal detector procedures. I’ve been on over 20 flights throughout Asia and shake my head every time knowing what I know. I’m not targeting Asia, it’s scary in many regions.

    Ah, to play Scoot comfortably you need to know the game's quirks well. For water, bring 1 litre empty bottles into the gate, and you will never run out of water in flight (they won't stop you). SIN gates all have water dispensers. For food, you need to know which item to pick, they used to offer some exceptional food items if you know which one to order including their ice-cream, chocolate, and artisan drinks, but I think they recently removed them because they were too "high-class" and so weren't popular. You also get a fast meal service because nobody else wants to spend that money to buy on board. I remember picking the wrong items at first and they turned out to be disgusting, so it was trial and error. They also took out paid unlimited Wifi which was once offered in their early 787 years and you did not need any other entertainment on board back then (yes free flow RUclips was allowed in those days). If you pick the correct economy seat not only you pay less extra than you would expect, the experience is far better and you get plenty of space. And for certain airports with that reputation for really long queues, the priority boarding is worth every cent.

I will agree with you with ScootEco though, while it may being a small amount the money the comfort is worth it in ScootPlus. As for Jetstar, I never liked their seats (bit hard), also slightly expensive if your traveling on a budget.
    If your ever in Singapore, Can you do a review at Singapore's Second airport (Seletar Airport) I think there is a Budget Airline called Firefly from KL that has permit to fly into that Airport. I missed out last time because of time constraints.

    Scoot is what it is. It sells you a seat to get from one place to another, which it does reliably, and if if you want any extras they're expensive. Air AsiaX sells you a seat and if you prepay the extras you want it's still economical. It's not expensive even to buy some extras on board. As an Australian can I say Jetstar does this job pretty well most of the time and the cabin crew is friendly as they are on Air Asia. So my ranking would be Air AsiaX first, Jetstar a good second and Scoot reliable but definitely third.

    The worst part of Scoot is if you ever happen to experience a flight cancellation and receive “credit voucher”, the subsequent use of the voucher is strictly one time, meaning let’s say you have a $500 voucher and used $100 on your next flight booking well it turns out the remaining $400 is simply forfeited, that’s not cool at all.

    I've flown on Scoot once between Honolulu and Osaka for an absolute bargain fair of $99. I've added some ammenities like a bag and a seat in the front in the child-free-cabin which was pretty empty with a row of three for myself. Let's say Scoot flies you from A to B and that is what matters. The no own food and drink policy was stricktly enforced in the first few hours of the flight but after a while the flight attendents gave up. "According to Sinpapore law it's forbidden to consume your own food or drinks". Good luck enforcing that "law" on a flight between the USA and Japan ;)! They've tried to charge me extra for the meal and a drink. On their food menu there's a combo deal with a meal and a drink. I ordered the meal and the drink and they were charged seperately. Once I've pointed them on the combo deal with the exact same items, I've got the reply that I had to order a combo deal instead of a meal and a drink.

I never found the prevailing rate on any day I checked. This means you will prob end up paying nearly double the fare for a new ticket.

    Thanks for the objective RUclips, Kevin. Scoot has not been a success in Europe. Yes it operates to ATH and BER but no other points. For a while it operated LGW-BKK-SIN but that route didn't last. Scoot's first boss, Campbell Wilson (now CEO of AI), told the media that Scoot would *not* be like SIA. But as an airline representing Singapore (continually seeking to woo multinational companies) I do believe Scoot ought to be better as it shows the City State in a less than positive light.
