    Matt, on all good chalk guns there's a circular opening (a hole). That opening is there for cutting open the tubes nossal.All you do, is put the nozzle in the hole and cut with the trigger, just saying.

    Most people say Dicor but Sikoflex appears to be far superior from the few that try it. It can even be applied in wet conditions, or freezing and seals and stays durable for several more years than Dicor. Apparently its a true industrial grade product. Costs about $14 per tube. Slightly more expensive than Dicor.

    Thumbs up and thank you for this video. I actually saw, for the first time, the "cracks" that require re-caulking. That was important, but also when to caulk was equally as important. I would have done this all wrong. Your little swirls, or circles, remind me of decorating a cake, so that part will not freak me out. You brought this information down to my level and I understand what to do, where and what to look for on old caulk and new. Again, thank you. I am going to subscribe!

    Thank you, I like this video because you got right to the point. We have a 2019 Winnebago Travato 59k that is just 1.5 years old and when I checked the sealant in August at one year it all looked fine. A few months later and after pulling down the shroud around the Maxx air fan I see that a tiny leak had started. Up on the roof again and I found several tiny cracks that are visible now. I put a small dab of silicone to hopefully stop the leak until I can put on a top coat of this sealant. How soon after the application can the sealant get wet? Thanks again Matt, Katie and I really like your videos, over time we really warmed up to your enthusiasm and knowledge.

  • @blowmeracing

    first thing you should do is throw out the dicor product.. and the second is clean the roof with something safe for the EPDM other than a dirty song of water ( mineral spirits is recommended )...the dicor product dries and cracks and splits and there are known issues with it if you google it.. I stopped using it.. and if you are cleaning prior to applying it with just water, then it will likely peel in the near future following your maintenance application.

    I learned some more today with your video..hope u are still doing videos..I need help in several areas..one is..my recently purchased 2009 camper ( my first)..As I cleaned the roof...it is covered with "age spots"?? dark circles all over that would not come up even with lots of elbow grease..then...I took the cover off the roof AC and I don't think the roof in any part has ever been cleaned !! Under the cover were wasp nest and also inside (the ac unit..was also covered with wasp nest as well as a hornets nest ! (all old..thankfully...!! My problem is nor I can't seem to line up the cover to go back on right...?? I know it didn't shrink !! Is there a correct way to remove and re-install the cover??? Is there anything safe that will help get rid of these "age spots from the rubber roof.???

    Those lap sealants are fine for an EPDM Rubber roof. A TPO roof requires special lap sealants recpro 1021 self leveling and 1010 non-sagging.

    How often should you spot seal? Will calking stick to old calking if you just clean with water and cloth? I was told that you should clean calking with white gas, by an RV dealer and an RV repairman.

    • @MattsRVReviews

    I would suggest taking off the old caulk first as the adherent properties of the old are no longer viable. If you slap on new stuff over the old stuff, what happens is the old stuff will peel off and guess what comes with it? The new stuff you just put on!

    • @MattsRVReviews
      @MattsRVReviews  5 лет назад

      Agree and disagree... You want to remove all the caulk every 5 years or so... but from what I hear its better to put caulk on caulk...

      @@MattsRVReviews Yeah mine is a 2010 and all the caulking is cracked like crazy. However, I am going to use SIKAFLEX 715 which is used in commercial roofing so I hope I won't have to re-caulk for 20 years :)
