Going over some archives this morning and I came across this one. That was a nice looking Salmon that you had there . I can tell that you are a true fisherman when you end up asking yourself , ¨ What did I forget today ¨ !
Lived in California for ever, my fishing was done off Dana Point, Davies Locker, Newport Beach, and Palos Verdes, Puerto Fino, the Horse shoe for large halibut, huge bonita, mackerel, also went out to Catalina island for some white sea bass, and yellow tail, and sail fish, but I NEVER got lucky in catching a salmon!!!!!!!! That was a treat to see, looks pretty healthy too :-) I do miss California fishing, l will have to settle for the Mediterranean sea, at least the corbina here are huge, not bad tuna too, and other species... Stay safe bud!
That's an awesome catch bro, congrats! I sold my yak when I moved out of FL. but I've moved back and will probably get one again to paddle baits out for shark fishing and fishing the flats. Great vid man, tight lines!
Man I've got to hand it to ya! A Chinook off a yak with no net! You, my friend, are the man! Oh, and it's ADIPOSE, not APIDOSE fin and there is a huge difference tween the hatchery and wild kings. Great video man, be well and fish on! Mark in Oregon
What is the difference between playing a salmon without an Adipose fin compared to playing one with an adipose fin? I have caught more than a thousand salmon over the past 20 years. Some of the hardest fighting fish were fin clipped. FWIW most "hatchery" fish are NOT adipose fin clipped. The hatcheries can only clip about 10% of the fish they release. Just saying!
@@JLone55 Gaffs virtually guarantee the fish will die if you had to release it due to a) short length, b) wrong species, c) over limit. Regulations require nets only and of a certain size (18" by 18")
I hear a lot of hatcheries in California do not clip the adipose fin, here in Oregon most of the time if it has a fin it is to be released. I miss catching kings on the California coast, glad to hear you guys actually had a season, and a killer one at that. Greetings from Portland Oregon usa
Thanks for watching! I am not sure about the clipping of the fins, maybe you are right. I will have to look into that. Hope we have more seasons like this one in future years!
In California they clip about 20% of their hatchery releases and put a CWT in their snout. Even with an adipose fin it's still most likely a hatchery fish. The only way to tell is with DNA, but there's so few wild fish left in the Sacramento River/San Joaquin watershed that hatchery fish compose the majority of the populations in Central California
Hi, where in Monterey County can I go fishing for salmon? I'm new to it, and would like to catch my own salmon. I have my license, but don't know where. Thanks
Awesome vid man. Started following you from the Halibut video you posted up on NCKA. Keep the vids coming! Hopefully I get to see you out in the water soon. -KillBait
Nice vid, it really got me fired up to hit it. It'll be interesting to see how things go now that the commercial season just opened. I thought that looked like SC area. A couple of questions: Did you get the chovies w/ a sabiki? What size cooler were you using? I've been mulling that one over for my Revo-16. I have a Hobie deck cooler bag, but for me, that will be best placed waaaaay up on my bow deck, not easy to reach at all. I keep my plano tackle box in the rear tank well. What's your handle on NCKA? Mine's Scurvy.
Yeah, I caught the live bait with a sabiki. I am not sure the size of the cooler but its the biggest that will fit on my outback. I'm "diehardfishing" on NCKA.
GREAT JOB! I just subbed your channel after viewing the collaborative video ("Two HUGE VENOMOUS BLUE FISH") on Fisherman's Life channel...! Looking forward to following your adventures!
Butter man just sent me. I watched a video of his from 2017 said diehard only has 2k subs now look at him 17k. Well now 17.1k subs. Great vids keeper coming.
I'm a fan of yours but 1. how do you keep a live anchovy on a barbless hook? Also just FYI it's illegal to target salmon without a net on board.28.65 d) No person shall take finfish from any boat or other floating device in ocean waters without having a landing net in possession or available for immediate use to assist in landing undersize fish of species having minimum size limits; the opening of any such landing net shall be not less than eighteen inches in diameter.

I'm continually impressed by what you're hauling in on that kayak! Beautiful salmon there.
Beginners luck for sure!
lol not likely. Game respect game mang ;)
Packing list my friend, packing list. Helps me not forget stuff anymore.
You ought to try Bait Buttons when using a barbless hook. Helps keep your live bait on the hook.

Pardon my ignorance but why not gaff him. Why do you need a net?

Die Hard Fishing nets gonna come in handy for a other huge salmon
do you really use the go pro session and do you recommend to a beginning fishing youtuber
Yep! And yes I recommend it if you are just starting and not too familiar with gopros. It is very simple and easy to use.
Nice vid, it really got me fired up to hit it. It'll be interesting to see how things go now that the commercial season just opened. I thought that looked like SC area.

Cool video man! What rod and reel are you using? The Abu Garcia Ambassadeur S or the C3 version? What do you think of the setup? Thanks.
Thanks for watching! The rod is a 9 foot G Loomis and the reel is the C3 version. It is a little on the lighter side but I love the setup for salmon!
That was insane
Congrats on a high quality fish! Awesome adventures! How deep do you put the live bait? Thanks!
Thanks! I tried anywhere from the top to the bottom of the water column. Just have to figure out where the fish are on any given day.
