Grande Marianelli!
When I first saw the movie I thought what a beautiful music it has (Also what a brilliant movie it is !).2 years later I saw it had gotten an Oscar for it!
Yeah, I agree with nahedh. The problem is that Marianelli's talent is beyond anything being put out by Hollywood--either now, or perhaps ever. Marianelli is to cinema as Wagner is to opera; but cinema (unlike opera) is pretty much created by bankers to keep us stupid...
Atonement is a very confusing story. Warning spoilers! According to some website about Atonement Lola knew all long Paul was her assailant and he attacked her twice, before and after dinner. What I don't understand is why the f!ck did Lola marry her own assailant? How could she have done such an unthinkable thing? And how could she not mind Robbie's arrest?
One of the many reasons I hated and loved the storyline...the ending sold it into my top 5 favorite movies. Or it could've been the fact this movie had my favorite actress, my favorite actor, my favorite director, and my favorite film scorer...so many things are going for it lol
*Spoilers* You have to keep in mind that Lola is young and Paul Marshall is older, said to be handsome, and powerful. I have read on several websites that Lola was caught up in the simple fact that someone was even taking notice of her to care about who it was. I think that she didn't put the blame on Paul at first because she was ashamed and in denial. A reason as to why she may have later married him is through force. Paul is power and money hungry so much that he wants a war for it and with Paul's chocolate industry being at such a success, if the truth came out then it would probably ruin him. This leads back to Lola because she would have the legal right to not have to testify against her spouse, keeping him safe. The only other person who saw it was Biony and, well, "she's rather fanciful." The movie also has a bit of an unreliable narrator as Briony is losing her memory and Robbie and Cecilia both died. I think that it was written to be up for interpretation, another one of the many reasons as to why is is such an amazing novel and film.
The over-arching theme is one of love and loss for a past that is irrecoverable ; of fateful destinies sealed by tragic events, and for which redemption is no longer possible and atonement an illusion. An eternal theme, spun from the threads of a master story-teller, stunningly re-enacted on screen and enhanced by a poignant score.
I love the incorporation of the typewriter. Very clever.
It means writing the story

Is incredible how lies and a little of imagination can destroy a person's life or reputation..
The middle section with the cello solo and choir brings the feels.

I think that Marianelli's music sound very well in this film

The soul of England bared open in the story and how did the composer capture that soul is a wonder to me.
