I created an account but I was taken to a page called "Applications". I don't see the view that you have at 0:50 in the video. There is no option to "add site". I'm unsure about how to proceed.

It looks like it is just the site options that have changed technically drupal is an application, not a site strictly it is capable of more. So they have changed the new to Application.
My recommended method of install Drupal is to go with Acquia's Dev Desktop. If you follow this method you will face problems while installing the modules. You won't be able to install Modules.
You will struck this course at lession No. 29 Drupal 8 Beginner, Lesson 29_ Setting up URL Patterns (Updated). After searching so many forums and accessing the server with SSH also didn't fixed the problem. Basically acquia won't allow to run Drush module installation in their server. I literally wasted around 5 hours of time figuring the problem.
So, my sincere advice is to go with Dev Desktop and don't waste your time.

Why acquia cloud let to create just aplication not site?
I got to 2:54' then got a bit bored while waiting and clicked on other things! Ooops ... now nothing looks like yours does!
I do seem to have got things up OK and now done a few pages... (rough format). But I need to edit the menu links and can't see how to do this ?
Also Acquia are now saying that I've only 29 days before it all gets deleted!!
... but why will I have to pay for it?
I've been told it's all free and now the cheapest is £140 a MONTH that's insane for simple websites! Have I misunderstood something ?
I'm still trying to get the concept of Drupal !
I think I'll need Thunder from what I can tell, for one website (later)...
Hi Claire. Acquia Cloud is just one of many, many options for hosting Drupal
So what you are saying is, yes it will cost me the minimal sum of £125 a MONTH ! (Or close as the $/£ rate is rubbish) So totally pointless as this is far too much for start-ups! :( Maybe Pantheon will be more friendly and helpful ?

I don't see any free version of acquia anymore
Unfortunately, Acquia has temporarily (we think) suspended their free Cloud tier due to spammers. Hopefully it will make a comeback
I'm from Hungary, Europe and i want to create an Acquia account. I'm also a student so i do not work for a company. What do I do? Do I just leave the company field bank and select a random state?

can anyone recommend an alternative free or affordable host for setting up a (one click) test site? the one on Acquia expires after a month...

Are you able to install custom themes from a computer onto an Acquia Cloud drupal site?

Acquia is not providing free sandboxes. I guess I am too late to the game.
Sponsorship is ok but its like 70 % is acquia of this video and rest 30% is drupal...I mean come on man I am here for Drupal not for acquia
