Yes, you're right. Roy Orbison was a legend in his day because of the same thing. He came out, stood perfectly still dressed in a suit, and just sang and the record companies couldn't believe what they were hearing! He became an instant hit and legend. The same is true of Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. Those two beautiful voices can sing to me all day and I'll never tire of it...and I'm into country music not R&B so that says something of their talent!!!

I'm not surprised that Mariah's voice is damaged. This legendary woman was once of the hardest working singers in the 90s. She gave us album after album and belted and belted til she strained. She also resung all the vocals for her remixes, a fact people seemed to forget. Hasn't she given us enough yet? This talented icon has got nothing left to prove and no video of her struggling to sing will make me respect or love her any less!

I really don't mind her damaged voice. We shouldn't feel inadequate of what this talented woman gave us before, she gave us everything she could. Yip not many can pull off a chuck(I think it's called that) like he did on that(the only other vocalist that did it live like this that I have seen is Luther Vandross with Whitney Houston, Dione Warwick and Stevie Wonder in that live performance of That's what freinds are for)...and if I am correct Wanya suffered from severe vocal polyps not long before this...many of Boys ll Men performances in the beginning you can actually see he is in pain but still sings his lungs out...there are many great vocalists out there but Wanya has an incredible ability to sound like Stevie Wonder in his upper register including those riffs and runs...I enjoy watching vids when he and Brian Mcknight go at it...Wanya vocally is like the male version of Whitney Houston...imagine a duet of those two in both their peaks like this here.

Mariah is definitely the Queen of Music.
What people don't understand when they compare new talented singers to Mariah, is that Mariah's voice has so much power that it's considered a rarity! It's singular! And very few singers had this much power to belt. Artists like Yma Sumac, Aretha, Whitney and Mariah are very hard to come by which is why they are considered the standard by which every other female singer is judged. Yes Ariana and Christina are amazing singers, but they are no where near Mariah in terms of vocal power. She's just a miracle! A freak of nature.
Mariah really deserves a certain level of respect! A great human being!
She has a golden voice..
What a time to be alive when all that real magic was happening, compared to todays “music” somewhere along the way good music died.
