I teared up when I watched this video. I’m 30 and flunked out of basic basic math in homeschool and have spent my life feeling inadequate for every career opportunity I’ve wanted to pursue because of that fear of failure. You’re so right and my mindset has held me back for so long. Thank you for the encouragement. You helped me to have hope and belief in myself again. I’m ready to stop making excuses and learn what I need in order to have the confidence to succeed in my dreams and goals.
I can relate...as i too never liked math but i just know its a great subject, this video made me even more determined to get my license upgraded & go after my passion full speed ahead 🙏👩🎨
I feel you, I stunk at math for most of my life until I was determined to not leave this life until I graduate college and have been using many resources to have to relearn and learn mathematics. Oddly enough I have actually become very fond of math and not half bad at it now.
I was middle aged before I realized it wasn’t my mindset, but the teaching style of my instructors. I went back to school, and once again realized I was a dunce when it came to math. I couldn’t understand what they were talking about, and they taught so fast that my mind was swimming and overwhelmed. Fortunately, we had a textbook with tutoring videos, and imagine my shock when I understood everything the video tutor said. It was a big revelation to know it wasn’t me. From high school to college, my learning style, and their teaching style were at odds, until the math videos when it all made sense. I ended up with an A in College Math, but only because of the text book videos, and not the math teachers.
I was very impressed with that talk , you're so on the money , midset is everything . I,m 72 and I'm doing a math course to keep the neurons firing . Brain plasticity is a fact. Use it or lose it. Brain shrinkage due to the ageing can be mitigated by exercising it. Thanks
The brutal truth needed to be heard. Mindset is extremely powerful and I totally agree with you. Great video! Been that person you was describing only up until recently. (36 now) Finally changing myself in a positive aspect instead of dwelling on the past like bad school grades. Most employers don't even care nowadays (In the UK anyway lol) and I've realised that...Now it's about finding new skills and building as a character. Not getting any younger!
I’m going back to school to become a LPN. Take the tabe test and did very poorly on all parts. I’m 46 years of age. I want this career so bad that I can taste it. But I have to pass this entrance exam which is a tabe test. The test seemed so easy to me. Expect for the word math problems. That was the hardest part. And I still failed it. I’m brushing myself off again. I know I can do it. But I will not pay for another test. Until I know I have it down pack. So until then study study. Thanks for this it truly has encouraged me. Everything you said I was saying that to myself. But no longer my mindset now is to go all the way in until I get it.
Thank you. I'm 40+ returning to school for my college degree since my children are more independent now. It's has been a real challenge getting into it.
What I had to figure out too was learning style. I'm a visual and application type of learner, which is the opposite of how vast majority of teachers that I had would teach. So scouring the internet for visual type of videos (documentaries, fun visual aids, etc..) has helped me tremendously for every single school subject. Took me until college to figure that out.
Got to confess that i too had a negative attitude toward math ever since I found it so difficult to understand & deep down i know that its a great subject to aquire- mind u though some teachers really make pupils scared of the subject as they're doing it more for the pay rather than the love of teaching
Going for my GED so I can home school. I have been more negative minded about my confidence.. But thanks to this video I know now to think positive!! Now I'm going to watch your other videos!
I accidentally came across this channel. I was totally upset teaching my daughter mathematics. I don't know how to help her. I learned my mistake what you have said in 7:20 to 7:45. This video is really a motivational video for a person like me. Thanks a lot. 😊👍🏼
Despite having MATH anxiety since 4th grade and multiple attempts in college to obtain a degree, I was able to get an Associates degree in Science and Mathematics in 2019. In addition, I recently passed a national certification exam in radiography after completing an advance radiography course and utilizing Math classes in RUclips and other free courses online. My problem is keeping my mindset open and reduce my anxiety. I did not have a good experience in Math between the 3rd grade and the 6th grade. I felt I needed help and asked my parents and my teachers. My parents are not high school grads and my teachers moved on in class. I felt i was left behind and never caught up. It has crippled me in the past. but I kept trying. I started watching these videos when my wife showed me How to explain calculus to a 6th grader. This video got me interested in learning more. Thank you for your content.
Great advice. Well explained and presented. Adults must apply the strength of mind over matter to push aside the self-created mental blocks and fears so as to overcome past failures. The right mindset will help them achieve and succeed on the second attempt and build self-belief and capability to conquer any learning challenge.
I'm glad I subscribed.. I think there needs to be more education center online or in person for people over 35 to 50 to get there's papers that are required to further ourselves.. the more people of these ages that do it together the less we will feel out of place.. it can become the norm.. we all have good reasons with bumpy starts in life.. we don't need to feel ashamed about it when we want to further outselves to better ourselves.. Thank you.. great video..
I am so glad you made this video as it is very inspirational. Some excellent advice and I really do appreciate it. Please continue to make theses videos as they really are helpful. Thank you for being here on RUclips.
I have a positive mind set and I always say if I don’t try I will never know if I’m capable of achieving my goals. I’m 54 and I’m going to take a teaching diploma to teach cosmetology at a beauty school. I believe I have a mass of knowledge in the subject and tons of experience in this field. Thanks for your encouragement Sr. 😉
This was a great video, what I need help with is reading an expression, and writing it in an algebraic equation, then solve it. Very basic word problems, like knowing what the unknown is, and how to write the equation correctly. I'm not up to polynomials yet, or negative and positive numbers.
Here's a quick summary of the best aspects of the video if you do not have time to view: 1. Your mindset is the most important factor in your ability to learn as an adult. 2. Your attitude towards learning determines your outcome. 3. Don't let past failures define your ability to learn. 4. Focus on empowering questions to keep a positive mindset. 5. Reinforce positive mindsets in yourself and others, especially children. 6. Learning a subject takes time and effort, but everyone can climb the ladder. 7. Focus on one step at a time, rather than the end goal, to stay motivated.
I 100% relate to this video. I also believe that I was not taught well as a child, and that many of our teachers lacked the patience to work with us less gifted students. I already have a Bachelor's in Theology, and I am 61 years old. Fortunately, we did a lot of reading and writing in Religion studies, but the Math was very light. I squeeked by in Math, but always wanted to conquer it more fully. 😁 As a Right-brain dominant person, I am happy to be here, and correcting my Math deficiencies!
FOCUS = MINDSET is really is the ingredient to succeed in anything, and home is where it starts. Growing up people see the potential in me, but I don't see the potential in myself. I think a big factor of that is because my own single parent didn't believed in me as much as she believed in my high performing sibling. Where she puts little effort into teaching and having them motivated in school as I was. I'm not a school drop up and I didn't failed any class growing up but I'm not even at the bottom of the school ranking, I'm just average. When I started working my bosses and coworkers sees that I've got potential, they know I can do great things coz they see how I work, but I just can't see myself that way. I think that's the big hindrance why I still can't get my break. Partly because I'm afraid to fail therefore I'm afraid to even try. I just have a new job right now, as a Sr. Training Specialist and I'm researching about adult learning and I came across this. I hope you make more about this video. And thank you very much!
Thank you This is a great video . I'm about to start my adult education And I'm going for my diploma I wasn't sure if I was going to make it Just like you said I have to have my mind set on what I want to do and how high I want to get.
Hey thanks much for the advice on mindset as i am now doing a course in spa therapy & at present- we're in theory so there are quite a number of areas to cover including tests that are mandatory. It seemed a bit challenging during my first 2 weeks however i will make sure not to be doubtful of my ability to learn as i developed a passion for the skill years ago & am just able to persue it.
I am 38 and struggle in math, I’ve taken the ged 5 times along the years and passed all but math, so I stopped going. Then go back and have to retest all over again I definitely feel doubt like your video describes. Can you show me where to start using your videos? Thanks
I'm 30 and am also struggling with (basic) math. One thing I've always heard but didn't really understand is that math builds upon itself. Chances are you know a good chunk of math, but there are a few things here and there you're not solid on. For example, I can add, subtract, multiply and divide but I couldn't do even the simplest of fraction problems (1/2 + 1/2) - I had to go back and learn rules for fractions. I'm still trying to figure out math, but what I'm doing is going back to the basics (PEMDAS, FOIL, etc.) and trying to understand them before proceeding.
Thank you so much . I’m really worried about math I start college in the fall . The good news is I have unlimited private tutoring if needed . I really hope I succeed cause business administration is something I’m really interested in .
I will soon be going to adult education since I'm 17 almost at graduation I always flunked math of any sort past 6th. I guess I'm just gonna try and see what happens
I am 63, and at hightschool I did not understand the first thing about math and our teacher was not willing to explain anymore when you did not get it rightaway. Now I want to give it another try, there is no specific career reason or pressure, just want to know if this time I’ll be able to get it right. Which of the courses on your website would be most suitable for my purpose? because there is a lot to choose from I cannot really figure that out.
MATH is a very needed skill, I need to brush on all educational skills science, math reading writing. I'm 60 this year, I drop out 17 in the 9th grade with D,E, and F. For my efforts. So I just didn't care I'm not dumb, I just don't know what to do or say to get help.your the First subject of my quest list, let's see if you can help
Hi sir. How are you? I came across your channel and I need your help.. I dropped out of school long time a go I know nothing of high school maths except addition subtraction ect.. I want to know where to Start from I and books I will need to study maths please. Thank you
What's the name of this drawing app you are using? I've been seeing this around a bit and It's simple like mspaint. I like that. What I like the most is the highlighting.
I really had slow grades in school my math and other things are not good I've always fault I could never get better I am 39 now and I wish as a kid I had the help I'm nervous for my child because he starts school this year
Greetings Tablet Class Math teacher: Per your request to leave a comment and help you understand my goal as an adult who was working towards a diploma in Early Childhood Education but have redirected myself to taking the state test in NC for a position in the public school as a substitute teacher; Also, the state of FL only requires a GED diploma to substitute teach in their state. As you predicted I struggle with many of the STEM subjects and have reached out to RUclips tutorials, such as you offer. My diploma only gives me access up to 8 years old but I know how important it is to have a complete deck of cards when you attempt any type of card game. Thanks for sharing your educational knowledge with a senior citizen such as myself.
99.9 % of your video material is very good . Now i am 43 as today i am going to take math ged where should i start , please point me right direction to get a good foundation to pass test . Thank you
Oh you can play music if you choose. Lol ! Actually you can learn anything. I will be the first to admit I spend some time sobbing every week at my slow progress 😕 But after a life time of believing I am autistic I can see slow is common but I've never failed at anything I've tried. Example I was able to learn the Bass guitar and play professionally for years. At 52 I learned to ride a unicycle in the mountains. All easier than algebra 🤣😂 But thank you for the help!
I taken fundamentals of mathematics at technical college in Adult Basic Education, back in 2012 I failed it twice. I try to taken class again, but the technical college eliminated Adult Basic Education math classes. So I going try again at community college.

Good positive attitude. I’m 45 back College and math brings much anxiety.

This is a great video. I can relate to it. I am in my 60s and pursuing a bachelor degree in computing
