The creator behind this transformation is Janine Bruce, a builder and visual experimenter who approaches interior space not as something to decorate, but as something to reshape from its structural core outward. In this project, she does not simply redesign a room. She redefines what a room can feel like.
Supposing this Janine has really done all that work by herself (the video is edited and we don't know how many people really took part), did she take into account all the weight that new concrete structures will add to that floor? She is apparently building it on the 1st flloor of an existing building. I'm speaking from memory, but 1 cubic meter of concrete weighs around 1200 kg, depending on the aggregate used. Has she taken into account the safety coefficients for that first floor?
Builder here. I’ve worked in construction for 43 years ranging from general building through to civil engineering and everything in between and I can state unequivocally that this woman is astounding! There are a couple of details I could pick up on like the honeycombing on the columns due to insufficient vibrating (pokering) but overall I’m in awe of all her skills. I’ve worked with seasoned builders who couldn’t do one tenth of what she did in this video. The steel, the shuttering, the concrete, the electrics, et al. I would hire this woman in a heartbeat. Amazing!
@NoName-xj9nm Clearly you don’t understand rebar and concrete construction. That house is a superstructure design I.e, which means that the main frame of the entire house is columns and slabs with block infills afterwards to divide up the space into rooms. The beam which you are talking about will run the entire width of the building to another support column to take the slab above. She could remove the entire wall and it would have no effect on the overall strength of the structure as it is merely a block curtain wall.
Yes, she's undoubtedly talented. The fact that she doesn't injure herself while doing this work in her protective gear is phenomenal. She shouldn't work in a group of men; they would likely feel insecure and be distracted from their work. If it were for a job application video, I would hire her and let her do the work herself. However, she won't have to work for anyone, because she has other talents: she's good at self-promotion.
@a.b.7018 The “honeycombing” is the name we give to concrete that hasn’t been compacted properly. Concrete should be vibrated (pokered) thoroughly to remove air bubbles and compact the concrete evenly. If you watch from 5:40 onwards you can see when she removes the shutters that the aggregate is showing. That’s what we call honeycombing. I suggest you slow the video down when watching it again as her video is sped up and you might miss it.
Not my idea of a cosy place, although it looks warm & cosy. Still wondering did she put a flue in the fireplace? I didn't see any smoke filling up the room.
Its like a muscle it grows the more you use it, creatives are just more willing to suffer through being bad at something to build the skills. Vision comes also from experience.
@ГачиМученик-ъ3щbecause you think she has less muscles than a teenage boy? “Woman’s job” yikes. Who raised you with those types of concepts. I feel sorry for any women related to you. You probably try forcing those limiting thoughts on them like you do here. What a sad little life to limit people based on your little boxes. Hopefully one day you will be free and actually see people as whole people free to do what guides them.
Great build but that was a massive undertaking. If it were to be duplicated the concrete and plaster can be replaced with block foam and a hot wire and timber frame construction. I think it then can been completed within half the amount of time. Foam blocks are so much lighter than concrete bags!
I didn’t know where this woman was heading or her intentions with the beginning of each project, but wow, she knew exactly what she wanted and exactly how to do it. This gal blew me away with her knowledge on how to do so many things. It amazes me how many people have so much talent. It actually bums me out as I don’t have an ounce of talent in me. Great job giving a boring apartment such a unique and awesome new life!
That woman is badass.. she would put a lot of the construction workers here in America to shame. She is a one-man army. Sorry one-woman army.... She's a mason, she's welder, she's just knows it all...Thanks for that video.
Suuper toll. Vielen Dank fürs teilen. Sieht großartig aus. Solch eine Mühe.
@ELits828 But you're adding several extra tons to a load-bearing wall that wasn't designed to support that much weight, in addition to the lateral loads it creates. It might not collapse, but cracks and shifting will soon appear in the floor below.
Tolle Idee.
A very creative lady. Never thought about purchasing a 500 square foot living space and turning it into a cave. Definitely something different and she did majority of the work herself. Awesome job.
So I'm guessing all the points for the columns were reinforced for each level below to account for the thousands of pounds of extra weight she added to this apartment floor ? It looks like at leasttwo levels exist below this. All done with proper engineering to calculate the stresses on existing columns and beams of course 🤔
Has she considered overloading the ceiling with concrete? This is a very reckless action, which to me makes no sense and is dangerous to the building's structure.
I got a tan line from a space heater I used to nap in front of on my bedroom floor in high school.. it was then I realized that a tan is actually just burnt skin. (Doesn’t need to be red…. Lol)
@thrillzzzz Some people don´t know this, but UVR light from welding machines is very powerful and can cause skin cancer. When i use any of my welding machines including plasma cutter i always avoid having exposed skin, not only the melting blobs of metal landing everywhere hurt like hell but the UV light also poses a major serious risk.
Maravilloso!.
I would have to see an in edited version to believe she’s doing all the work herself. Or any at all. May be a coincidence but the edits just so happen to be all the easiest and simplest parts of each process/step
Reminds me of a similar vid I saw where this Chinese girl, showing us ancient Chinese techniques for something (can't remember, cooking or dying cloth or something), pulled up an entire tomato plant. Made me question the entire process. 😑
As a European moved to Southeast Asian, yes. Sometimes it seems so. Especially for electricity. Many countries have nearly zero grounding installed. Whenever i touch a metal object or just my laptop it either shocks me a bit or i feel a weird vibration. But on the upside, 99% of the buildings are pretty sturdy, they have really nice methods to survive earthquakes and typhoons. The other 1% is LITERALLY having the pillars of the house TAPED together and using a broom stick to hold it… so dangerous.
This video does a great job of showcasing her work efficiency, which likely comes from a lot of experience. She even demonstrates that she utilizes the help of others to speed things along

If you did that to a house in the US it would completely destroy the resale value.
Ms. Bruce is one of those people that make life interesting and fun and worth living, an artist.

right, what about the removing huge amounts of the load bearing wall that has the beam resting on it. Was that astounding?
@NoName-xj9nm Clearly you don’t understand rebar and concrete construction. That house is a superstructure design I.e, which means that the main frame of the entire house is columns and slabs with block infills afterwards to divide up the space into rooms. - How much concrete do you need?
- Yes
- And how much rebar?
- Yes, yes, yes... 😅
lol 😆 need to hit over the head again!

Exelente
Not my idea of a cosy place, although it looks warm & cosy. Still wondering did she put a flue in the fireplace? I didn't see any smoke filling up the room.
The weight added to that second floor without any structural work carried out on the ground floor is taking a big chance it does not collapse.
absolutely absurd how some ppl have so much more creativity, abstract vision and unbridled energetic drive than others
For real
The world wouldn't function if we all had the same skills.
Where she had the bucket while cementing top of mantle I think was hole for smoke then she covered with stone in front of it.
Its like a muscle it grows the more you use it, creatives are just more willing to suffer through being bad at something to build the skills. Vision comes also from experience.
Oh, I got the creativity. I just don't have the money.
😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦♂🤦♂
🤣
Landlord was like WTF?!
Not in a NYC studio. First the landlord would kick you out then re rent the place for triple the rent.😆
😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂
@Leslie-j2j😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@ГачиМученик-ъ3щbecause you think she has less muscles than a teenage boy? “Woman’s job” yikes. Who raised you with those types of concepts. I feel sorry for any women related to you.
Yeah. It's called a sledgehammer.
Yes, with hammer blows, and then you have to pay for the entire renovation of the house.
Speechless.
Her creative talent and knowledge is...actually no words for it.
Her parents raised her right.
This woman is incredible!
The way she welds in a short skirt makes me want her to have my babies :D
Yeah, maybe something's getting lost in translation here, but I'm seeing a lot of disdain based on little info; small dick energy
Great build but that was a massive undertaking. If it were to be duplicated the concrete and plaster can be replaced with block foam and a hot wire and timber frame construction. I think it then can been completed within half the amount of time. Foam blocks are so much lighter than concrete bags!
Amazingly creative woman. Wasn't sure where the smoke from the fire went though - would definitely need a chimney.
Are you blind or just stupid?
She placed a plastic tub before laying the concrete above the fireplace, I believe to leave a gap in the concrete slab for the flue to pass through.
You could see her building it as it went along

WOW!!! Thanks for sharing. An amazing transformation!
Turning an old studio into something this creative in just over a month is seriously impressive. The vision and patience really show in every detail.
That woman is badass.. she would put a lot of the construction workers here in America to shame. She is a one-man army. Sorry one-woman army.... She's a mason, she's welder, she's just knows it all...Thanks for that video.
This is one of the most beautiful homes I have ever seen. I love how it looks like natural stone. I am in love with the finished result

That looks amazing!! I would enjoy living there!
There was not a single second in this entire video where I was not confused what is this woman doing? Very nice. Huge respect
It’s crazy she did all this in under 24 minutes!! 🤯
This renovation is so inspiring. The result looks absolutely stunning.
Only one word WOW!!!!!
Absolutely beautiful. A stunning effect.
Now we just have to pray that the floor doesn't collapse because several tons of weight have been added here.
I thought about the same thing
@ELits828 But you're adding several extra tons to a load-bearing wall that wasn't designed to support that much weight, in addition to the lateral loads it creates. It might not collapse, but cracks and shifting will soon appear in the floor below.

Amazing artistic talent beyond what one can teach, she is on a spiritual level! This is a dream brought to reality
Don't exaggerate, it's a Hobbit's house. 🤣🤣
Should've followed the "Get Rich" stickers with some with "Or Die Tryin".
Belle transformation ! ❤
Wow stunning work overall 😊 absolutely amazing and a great idea , loved it 😊
You are so crafty and talented with a work ethic that astounds me
It just kept getting better and better, very resourceful young lady.
Extremely creative, talented with designing the house 🏡
Amazing! It seems, there is nothing you could'nt do! All the best to you!❤❤
What a genius woman lovely work ❤
Te Felicito por tu gran logro y esfuerzo ❤

@eric209if it was a man would you say this? If not, you have to look in yourself or your upbringing and ask why not
@WhereisDreamlandThis question shows your absurdity and that logic and you have never crossed paths once.
Très impressionnante et créative. Pleine de bonnes idées. Bravo pour ce travail de Titan.❤❤👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Wow what a creativity
What a unique one off, the finished project looked great. A bit extreme to go to those lengths but you do you 💪👍

Sweet ! Love to see such creative some thing we need more of.
Irrespective of how many behind the scenes, this was an inspiring video with some very creative ideas… 👏 Thanks 👏
What an intelligent and beautiful woman 😱😍
Wow this is incredible. Well done! Most people don't have the endurance, even if they have the creativity. This is a LOT of work. Well done.
Janine is fantastic! So talented I was glued to the screen to see what she was going to do next! Well done!
🎉❤🎉 ABSOLUTELY STUNNING AND ONE OF THE BEST RUclips VIDEOS EVER! WOW !!!
That is truly awe inspiring
Que bonito le quedó 😊
Superbe réalisation. Félicitations c’est génial 😊
35day??? 35x24 hours = 840 hours / 6 hours at day = 6-8 months !!!
This is brilliant!!!
Welding and skin health advice - cover up when welding - skin cancer is a real thing .... love your work !!
Where is the refrigerator? Where’s the bathroom!

thank you
Wow that's awesome!!
So creative - and such competence!

The attire she's wearing and not getting dirthy makes everything obvious. It is an edited version of a certain video somewhere in Asia.
Starke Frau❗️Mein allergrößten Respekt 🙏🏻
Seems like in Asia there's no construction laws. 🤔👉😲

It turned out great!
Truly doubt that was done in 35 days.
This video does a great job of showcasing her work efficiency, which likely comes from a lot of experience. She even demonstrates that she utilizes the help of others to speed things along
Beatiful work.
Wow, so much work alone.
'what do you bring to the table?!'
Brought the whole place.
The fireplace got me. How, what, where....smoke & flames....I watched again & the little red bucket answered it. Would have been nice to see that work being done. She got an A+ for Interior Design. 👍
