While at a tour stop in Northern California supporting their most recent album, 2016's 'Feathers & Flesh,' we were able to sit down and interview lead vocalist Johannes Eckerström and drummer John Alfredsson of Swedish death rock band, Avatar. With only a little bit of time on our hands we were curious to hear about some of the band's Most Extreme moments including scary fan costumes and real clown interactions.

I think Jon is the funniest member of the band. He's ALWAYS messing with people, including us. Watch the Digital Tour Bus episode where Johannes makes Gnocchi, and Jon can be seen in the background wearing a ridiculous duck mask, and barely moving.

For a second I thought he really didn’t speak it very well, just discovered this band and the last interview I watched of these two John hardly spoke at all lol

He is my kind of a favourite weirdo in this Band 😂 I dont know why, but I kinda can relate a lot with his control freak impulses and strive for perfectionism
John's a fucking great actor pretending not to speak English or understand it at all the whole time
So many people have tried and failed to put on this 'evil clown' makeup, but somehow Johannes has adopted it with such passion that you get vibes seeing him without the way you'd see anyone else with.
I just love how humble they are. I love when metal bands don't let the fame get to their heads. Saw them live a few months back and have been a huge fan ever since.
Its wonderful too watch this as a swede, understanding the total nonsence they are talking about to each other!

Talk about an extreme hobby...being a kindergarten teacher. His story about how not to get kicked in the nuts is excellent.
Dear Avatar. The first song I heard was Night never ending and it was awesome. You guys are magnificent.
I'v'e heard John speak perfect English when doing the making of "The Eagle has landed" video. Not sure why he's speaking just Swedish here.
They love to do a "lost in translation" sort of thing. Johannes frequently jokes that the others only speak Swedish then says ridiculous things in English to his bandmates for the amusement of the audience. All of them speak English but they are not as confident in speaking it as Johannes is. John's English is better than the others.

I think they all do, but people mainly seem interested in just talking to Johannes
I think they're having a bit of fun. When being asked about the most extreme clown interaction they've had, the guy speaking Swedish says something like:
"Yeah, I remember that... uuuh uuh, I don't really know what to say really, but I'll just talk to you for a while and then you can talk to them in English, so like... macaroni and meatballs tastes good. So yeah..."
Basicly just Swedish gibberish, I think they're messing around a bit :)
John has definitely improved his English. It's 2018 Avatar Country has been released. 🤘

Johannes can speak fluent German English and sweedish and when you can speak sweedish you can speak some Norwegian and Danish and the other guys in the band can hardly speak sweedish XD

His comment about the parents dressing their kids is spot on. I see many of these parents on social media posting pics and it's fairly obvious when the parent is really the fan but thought that the kid was their ticket to meeting them. To each their own, but I feel that meeting someone through a disingenuous gesture doesn't leave a good lasting impression. But at the same time, you are one of thousands of fans and the likelihood of any kind of lasting impression is lost when the bands is meeting that many people each week. So...

My parents only listen to traditional austrian folks music so they were kinda surprised when I told them that my first Concert was going to be a Metalband. They wanted to listen to a song by the band I'm going to see, so I showed them Shoots & Ladders by KoRn lol
Kadi Baker they are pme of the best live bands ever. ive seen them twice. i highly recommend sneaking out of your house and going to a concert when they are in your area.
