I just barely missed the livestream this time. Darn it! Great reaction rt down to the metal giggles & happy Viking dance, though. Lol. This is now my favorite version of that song (a definite upgrade in every way) & my favorite Erik Grunwall cover to date. Absolutely beautiful and grievously mournful at the same time. It's interesting to me that both hit versions of a song about a Louisiana gambler are done by non-Americans, but they are. Erik is Swedish, and The Animals were British. The piano & strings in this replacing the organ definitely made a big difference. The old version has the classic 60s sound while this is a instrumental & vocal masterpiece version with all the necessary emotions needed to convey the darkness of this song's story. Even the video is stellar. This is the best version of this song. I'm up for an Erik Gronwell day, too. 😊

Erik did indeed have leukemia a few years ago. Thankfully, after much treatment and a bone marrow transplant, he is 100% well now. That illness did make him very aware of how important a person's health is - "Health First" is his #1 priority now.
