I was 20 living in Hilton Head SC working construction to fund my love affair with playing beach volleyball. My boss piled up all the scrap wood from the job site and we had a bonfire on the beach. He played this cd on repeat and we were all hooked! An amazing sound and thank God I had such amazing experiences!
This is THE SONG from this album for me. My wife and I love it and have loved it since we first heard this album in early 90’s. The song itself is just incredibly haunting/melodic. The lyrics are infinitely, poignant to a love affair that has reached the point of going thru the motions. The guitar work is stellar and the overall mood of it all makes me listen and feel something every time I hear it. Great song.
You are so right, this entire album is brilliant. I was into them 20 years ago, saw them a couple of times and lost track. Just found they're still together and amazing! Todd has become phenomenal on guitar!
He sits beside her in the evening. She turns and asks him for a light. He worked so hard so he'd be something. Just what it was she never knew. He lays beside her as she's sleeping. She asks if everything's alright. Is there a secret he's been keeping? She doesn't know anything he says. He doesn't feel anything she says. I've been waiting for too long for love like this To let it slip away. I've been waiting for your tender kiss. She says, "I just might leave tomorrow." He says, "Tomorrow never comes." So we'll just learn to love our sorrow. I'll love you tender as your sleeping. I'll love you bitter through the day.
senior year in high school and i'd told my best friend i was in love with him. he was supportive but didn't feel the same. but i'd outed myself for the first time, and at a time when being gay was the worst thing you could admit to. I couldn't get out of bed for a week and my anxiety and panic got out of control. this song and all of midnight radio helped me work through the pain. it still hurts to hear the song. but not in the same way that made life miserable back then.
Can't wait to see them perform this entire album at Target Field in Minneapolis in six days!!!! Also get to see Soul Asylum, Matthew Sweet and the Gear Daddies!
they played it back a few yrs ago in chas sc @ the windjammer i was there the previous yr tood asked the crowd what we wanted to hear and this song is what i spit out and he looked to rob with a surprised looked on his face the next yr they came again and played it ive seen them approx 12 times went to myrtle beach house of blues for the 1st time and saw them i was blown away just freaking amazing band will see them anytime i can :) Charleston SC LOVES BHTM!! :)
What the hell? Almost every song from this cd -- should have made the airwaves of the radio. Did they not give enough head? This cd -- is beyond an hour of amazing. If a certain person had not turned me on to it -- I'd have never known Big-Head-Todd existed. How fucking great was this cd? Why did they not bring it to the airwaves?

To me, this is their best song ever. Shit, it's one of the best songs ever from any band. Love you guys 🙂
I second this statement
AMEN!
This whole album is great. Another awesome band that doesn't get the recognition it deserves.
The live circuit they definitely have had a following but I agree with you.
Guess you don't see him at Redrocks. Always recognized in the Mile High City.
Agreed. I saw them at the Vogue in Indy several years back like early 2000's.
Their shows definitely pull in the smart crowds 🎸
Be glad about that though. A gem in the shadows reserved for the unique taste. Like Jeff Buckley or Peter Green.
God. I'm all of a sudden transported back to the best years of my life. Those glorious 90's...
Nothing says "just got dumped" like sitting in the dark listening to this song on repeat at 2am.

WTF? They played Target Field? I need to get out more.
I've always loved TPM's chops. A hugely under-rated player.
Thanks for posting.
