Boy Elroy. That’s cool bro. This channel is getting addictive. I never lived near this wild. But I did enjoy my 80s to the fullest. Thanks Brad. Keep putting these out and I’ll keep watching
I met Bill Gazzarri in late 70s. He definitely liked to play up that Mob thing, as did Bob Guccioni who owned Penthouse Magazine. Whether either had any real connections or not, who knows. Although I think it served them both pretty well the with the intimation factor in certain financial situations with timid wide eyed kids.
Can recall Gazzarri in the Metal Years "I'm not 60, I'm 3 twenty year-olds". I had no idea that place had such history. And the Wiki article describes the strip *exactly* as you did here!
ha ha , when i just arrived in LA in 1988 to attend GIT i found myself at an "after show " party of a band, on sunset, even if i was use to the "extravaganza" of paris , this place was the "wildest" that i'd never seen before , talk about good times...😊😊
You need to check out the Doc McGhee interview on X15. He has some funny stories . He said Tommy Lee was dating a 280 pound colored girl so he could drive her Corvette.
For like the first year when my band relocated to San Francisco in ‘89 we all wore leather MC jackets like The Ramones and had our band name/ logo spray painted onto the back of our jackets and NYC on the bottom. It was kind of genius because people werent sure if we were a band? A motorcycle club? Or maybe both? It did look kind of goofy when all four of us were walking down the street at the same time but it actually paid off. Cant tell you how many conversations those jackets started and how many people knew about us just because of them. Theyd see an ad in the paper for one of our upcoming gigs and say “Oh wow. Thats that guy or guys I saw walking down the street in those jackets”. And just out of curiosity they would come. Really helped get us on the radar of the local scene in that first year.
@@Ryan-KushLifeDragons I dont know what it was like on the strip? But in San Francisco, especially up in the Haight Ashbury the lampposts would get so thick with flyers they would actually torch them every couple of years until all the flyers were gone. I cant imagine it was the city doing that but someone did. In New York the cops would bust you for putting up flyers. So we would go out at like 3am in my drummers Taxi Cab (he was a cab driver), with a stack of posters, a bucket of glue and some paint brushes and just sneak around and go nuts all over downtown Manhattan and even some of the subway stations!
One of my friends met his wife in Wichita Kansas at a Department Store while I was buying a McCoy Tyner record and we were on tour with Jesse Lopez. 40 plus years later they're Grandparents and he's touring with Johnny Mathis as his Music Director.
We'd go to all the clubs to see which band was drawing the most chicks and that's where we'd end up. Then off to the 7th veil to end the night if we didn't pick up any girls.
A moment in time that would not be possible in today's world. Thanks for the stories 😊
So true!
