As someone who only returned to Lego due to lockdown I am all for "another" space shuttle. I don't think Columbia would be a mistake either as it would serve as a tribute to those who lost their live sin this tragic event
It’s tricky as the fuel tank is different colours normally. Sometimes the solid rocket boosters are also slightly different, so those bits would be doable.
@@ThatBrickSHOW The fuel tanks were originally painted white, but they left the foam unpainted to save the weight for more cargo carrying capacity in the shuttle.
They fucked up not approving kingsknight shuttle to start a 1/110 series that would give scale modeling to the saturn V. Now an entire community fixed that.
Id go for Discovery, with Hubble as the payload, & detachable landing gear, that way you could recreate the launch of Hubble, have the Stack only, the shuttle only, or the stack with the payload bay open to see Hubble.
I hope it's the complete shuttle with booster rockets. I think having it named Columbia is ok, but Challenger would also be great. I remember when seeing its final day on tv when I was a kid. Definitely do a memorial plaque with the set for them all. Great video!
LEGO are being more "controversial" with sets yes. But for an 18+ line they can afford to be. Colosseum, Titanic, Shuttle Columbia all will leave a big impact on history but the history, and significance they hold i think is why they are/were made.. Also im sure LEGO will include prints for all 5 shuttles so you can choose which shuttle you want. I personally want Endeavor as i have a model of the SpaceX dragon Endeavor

They should call it Endeavour. I got to see that shuttle on it's last flight around los angeles. it flew over my house so it has a special meaning for me. I love space shuttles.
Pretty exciting news. I'm good with Columbia though maybe a write up history in the instruction manual would be good to provide background/memorial. Curious if this will be larger than the Megabloks Endeavor which had 2005 pcs back in 2002. At that proposed piece counnt it could almost be minifigure scale.
I'm liking these new rumored 18+ sets. I've been following your footsteps by going back and buying all the Discovery space sets and along with the Shuttle Expedition. I'm excited for this summer.
I am looking forward to this set's release. Hoping it is the full stack and near 1/110 scale. I neglected to buy the Expedition set when it came out and now it is way out of my price range. Would this new set, if it is indeed Columbia, have a white fuel tank like it did for it's first two or three flights? Hopefully the book includes a few pages about STS-107 and her crew.
This should release on 12 April as it will the the 40th Anniversary of STS-1's launch, and it should have 1981 pieces so the piece count is the same as the launch year (like the Saturn V). Lets get this done people!
Personally were I designing the set I would have included decals/printed pieces with all the names on so you can decide what to call yours. I have a soft spot for Discovery because my grandparents brought me a model of it from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida when I was very young. And no it's not too soon. The shuttle crews died doing something noble. Their sacrifices, as well as the achievements of the programme as a whole should be celebrated, not treated as some sort of taboo.
I am super excited! I have the Saturn V and I have been waiting for a space shuttle to scale too. I hope it will be the Shuttle and the ET! Can't wait!!! Thanks for the content. Also, no stickers please haha
Columbia is the Shuttle that started 30 years of spaceflight with reusable spacecraft. It isn't to soon it an honor. As Gus Grissom said, “If we die, we want people to accept it. We are in a risky business, and we hope that if anything happens to us, it will not delay the program. The conquest of space is worth the risk of life.” Many astronauts feel this way and the final crew of Columbia would be honored that their sacrifice has hot been forgotten (much like Apollo 1 was until recently as both shuttles has a memorial at KSC years before Apollo 1 ever did). Ad Astra Per Aspera - A Rough Road Leads to the Stars.
When I bought the LEGO Space Shuttle Expedition I bought a Nasa sticker sheet with all the shuttle names. That way I could make it any shuttle I wanted. So now I have a Lego Space Shuttle Challenger. They should do the same with this set and include all the names.
yes, space shuttle please!. For me who got back into lego 7 years ago and missed out on the shuttle sets this gives me an opportunity to get one and hopefully its the full stack set!
I think they should go all out with the full orbiter, fuel tank, and SRB's (solid rocket boosters). Also, it should have pieces, stickers, prints, etc, to make any of the shuttles. (Enough pieces so you can change it from any to any other without losing the ability to change it back, so pieces for each and every sticker so no removing stickers). This will sadly be outside my price range anyway so I want it to be as good as it can be for those who can and want to get it.
I think that the space shuttle Columbia is a great choice. Columbia did make history so why put it aside? It would be an awesome way to pay respect to the ones who died, and it will proove that we wont froget them.
I think they SHOULD name it Columbia. It’s a good memorial to the sad accident and a good monument to all of the achievement and spirit of the entire shuttle program. There’s nothing wrong with respectfully remembering the past.
You got the set you wanted, that's awesome! I hope lego makes this set the ship and the..extra stuff i guess i'll call them boosters lol, I'm not one to know much of space... sorry. Again, 280 away from 10k Great job, you deserve every sub and every view I can't wait for what your future lego collection and knowledge will do.
So the space shuttle disaster is controversial but people dying for entertainment in the coliseum is no problem? I’m pretty sure someone is turning this into a drama for internet clicks!
Well, Columbia was the first Space Shuttle to reach orbit, and while it did end tragically, if Lego ships Columbia with a white ET [External Tank] and have a section of the instructions as a tribute to the final Columbia crew, then it's a fitting tribute IMO. That said, Lego should never do a Challenger shuttle, unless they've already released Atlantis, Discovery, Endeavour, and Enterprise first.
What if lego did the same thing they did with the 2018 X-wing. As in only removing a few tiles and the character to make it another pilots x wing, just that in this case by removing a tile the space shuttle could be the Endeavor or Challenger or Columbia
It took a while for me to build a plastic model of the Challenger, because of the same stupid controversy. Meanwhile, we have an Amelia Earhart LEGO set, and there’s many Titanic plastic kits and brick sets. If someone makes Columbia stickers for this set, I’m buying them.
I'd like to see the whole shuttle and booster rockets and everything! I don't think that if they make the Columbia, that it's a bad thing. If it's to honor the Columbia, why not? Didn't they make a Sally Ride Lego minifigure? Why didn't anyone say anything then? I think to honor them, they should make The Columbia.
I don’t think it’s disrespectful to make a model of Columbia. I think it’s important to remember mistakes, no matter what they cost. If you are ignoring the past, you are also ignoring the future.
I feel like both, the shuttle stack and the orbiter can't compare to the Saturn V...they don't have the same ''oumf'' the same wow. I would LOVE a bigger, nicer, more detail oriented shuttle... Plz...
I’m still waiting for Lego to make these sets and the money that would normally go to Disney for example, go to the families of the tragedy or a trust that the families might have set up. Eg WTC too. These things can be done in good taste if done right.
I am very excited about the shuttle, I really hope it’s the whole model with the fuel tank and rocket boosters. The latest shuttle is not detailed enough to me
First of all Columbia wasn't the first shuttle it was the Enterprise! Secondly if they intend to do a homage to the crew and loss of the Columbia disaster, why is everyone forgetting the Challanger disaster. Lego should give you the option of making whichever shuttle. As they varied slightly with each new construction.
Okay. So Enterprise was the 1st shuttle "built" - it was used as a test vehicle and never went into space at all. STS-1, first shuttle launched, was Columbia. Columbia was the first space-rated, launched into orbit and used in Space Shuttle.
A Columbia shuttle set could easily stand as a memorial to the tragedy. In exactly the same way that the rumoured Titanic set can be a memorial to that tragedy.
Day one purchase for me,why not call it Discovery? That name is not attached to an accident. The only other name is the Challenger, and I don't think they should pick that name for obvious reasons, unless it will be a memorial piece then they should call it that as it is the most well known of these terrible accidents.
Why not? They've already just released another set where probably hundreds of people were sent to fight to the death and be killed by animals just for entertainment. And another already rumored set where over 1k people died on in just a matter of hours. I'm actually pretty excited for this particular set. I really hope it's the shuttle stack and it's along the same size scale as the Saturn 5.
Space Shuttle Columbia is iconic. Yes it did burn up on re-entry. But that is the risk of space flight. Though the first Saturn V blew up on the launchpad killing 3 Astronauts but they still made the Saturn V model.
