i swear this album could have changed the course of pop music into a darker turn. hearing Mona lisa and Rebellion really have one of the darkest lyrics from a pop genre standpoint.
E this album would’ve exposed the entire industry and the satanic pedophile cults and use mk ultra. They couldn’t have that so they destroyed it. This is and that clip of rebellion is all we have of it.

My theory is that this original version is about how the Britney everyone knew was "gone" /dead and about how basically she's starting a new phase of her career where she's more "free" to do things her own way. But of course her label didn't agree with that so, they changed the lyrics to "cloned" to make the meaning more ambiguous, "mysterious" and confusing and basically change the meaning of the song to "other singers are copying Britney" or "Britney was cloned by the government" or whatever stupid thing people may believe

What the hell are you talking about? Mona Lisa was recorded in 2004 and Circus was released in 2008. Her comeback album was Blackout btw, and she was the executive producer for that one.
@@soulwast I see what Karyn G is saying, because I remember Circus being touted as her "real" comeback, and Blackout kinda being swept under the rug i.e. after her VMA performance and her paparazzi/tabloid/media storm. "Radar" was rereleased on Circus funnily enough. The time in between Blackout and Circus is the instatement of the conservatorship (or am I remembering incorrectly?). I think that she was silenced, especially from potentially alienating the million-dollar industry her image had provided for her and those around her. Rebelliousness has been a part of that image, and I wonder if The Original Doll was a touch too whistleblowy or challenging of America for the people approving her music (or at least, that's what I've come to understand), and that the change to "she's been cloned" may have been a tongue-in-cheek comeback-- that is, if she wrote the edits, or even had final say. At least I'd like to think she did as that is my impression up to that point in her career, before con.

Firstly, the "she's been cloned" was changed to "she's gone" by her manager Larry Rudolph. Secondly, I think vocals here are so much better, because it's real Britney. Finally, I don't know why everyone is so surprised how dark the song is, her own life is dark. We probably don't know half of what is going on between her and her family. So, yup, Britney's art is geniunly beautiful - sad or fun.

Britney got pregnant in 2005 and had already decided to take a career break to take care of herself and her family, and there might be other reasons why the project she was working on at the time did not happen. And she actually released Mona Lisa on the Chaotic EP sooo... Why always assume that her life is a conspiracy theory? We're talking about a woman who fired her entire team in 2006 because she (rightly) felt they controled her life too much, she could have released Original Doll at that point if she wanted to. She preferred to work on Blackout on her own, that's all.

Ha I remembered this when I heard it for the first time on KIIS FM in CA all those years ago. I didn't think it was that great. I forgot all about it. Takes on a whole new meaning now. I read the "updated" lyrics and then found this version and I was like YEAH I remember her saying the word Pitiful and that now she's gone.

I think this version is about how she wants to be let go from her label and do her own thing which is why she says “it’s time to let her go, ‘cause she’s gone.” She knew her label never let her have creative freedom, so she lost her true self because of it, and she wants to be let go, but her label wouldn’t let her go.
