  • Well I guess I've jumped on the merch bandwagon. But unlike other offers, the merch I offer goes way beyond the hoody and features the image in the video. Please click the link to see what I have.

    A great capture of loads very rarely seen outside a nuclear power plant's containment building! I worked at Diablo Canyon and witnessed the steam generator replacement projects about a dozen years ago. Our new S/Gs arrived by barge to the intake structure, and moved uphill to the plant on enormous lowboy trailers. The special cranes and rigging equipment for this project were themselves a sight to behold, giant red steel structures from (I recall) Mammoet in the Netherlands.

    Just yesterday (Dec 16. 2020) Kasgro was moving a GE turbine to somewhere in Ohio via CSX. Took video with my iPhone, but it is not of very high quality. Kasgro caboose KRL 078 in tow. Let me know if you would like me to send you the video and some still shots. I was in Brentwood, Tn, 14 miles south of Nashville.

    Wow, Never thought that a wagon can be this big the length of the schnabel wagon is almost as long as the big boy

    • @TonboIV
      @TonboIV 2 года назад

      The Big Boys aren't even close. They are 133 ft overall, whereas this Schnabel car itself is 232 ft unloaded. Loaded, it's 232 ft, plus the length of the load.

    Mannn!....Curious For A Long Time On How These Schnabel Cars Work Other Than Hauling Extremely Large And Heavy Loads,.. I Know Going Around Tight Corners Like This One Is A Nightmare, I Was Wondering Does The Schnabel Car Assist In The Cornering On Tight Curves With Obstacles Like Signal Poles And Cross Bucks!

    • @SAXTProductions
      @SAXTProductions  4 года назад +2

      yes the car can shift side to side and up and down. While the movement is too slow to see, when the car went under the bridge, it was set to its lowest possible state.

    What a difference almost 25 years makes. I made a super 8 video of a steam generator rail move for Point Beach Nuclear Plant in 1996. No Schnabel, no yellow vests, a beat up GP15-1, an engineer, conductor, and a Westinghouse factory rep riding in a caboose. Train was clipping along about 30mph most of the way!

    • @TonboIV
      @TonboIV 2 года назад

      Well, all of those are all small enough to ride on normal flat cars. The reason you use a Schnabel is when you have something that's too big for even a flat car. The huge size is what makes this job such a production. They're also probably exceeding the loading gauge on width.
