My favorite thing with this episode besides the iconic line is Rory was always seen reading something, season 1 she tells Dean she takes a book with her everywhere. This whole season we don't see her with one. The episode before this, Richard asks what she's been reading and she doesn't give an answer (Though she was preoccupied when he asked). Jess giving her his book is the first we see Rory open a book since dropping out of Yale.
Whether or not Jess was right to lecture Rory, the fact she was rocked and willing to question everything shows that he was right, it wasn't her. That said, the fact she says to Logan it's not easy when it's not handed to you is ridiculous. Rory's grandparents are incredibly rich and paid for her to attend a private school and Yale, and when she dropped out gave her free accommodation and found her a job. Rory has had almost everything handed to her, maybe not in early childhood, but as a teenager and an adult she absolutely has, so to lecture Logan on privilege is incredibly tone deaf of her. Yes his family is richer than hers but that doesn't make them poor.
It's not tone deaf. She has priviledge but it's nothing compared to Logan's situation and I'm not just talking about money, priviledge goes way beyond that. Just because both of them have money it just means that Rory can't critisize her partner, that would be crazy, they should be able to discuss these kind of things.

The reason why Jess is a favorite character is because with like many (not all) characters that start off like him aka antagonists, he grows and matures. When a character starts off as a protagonist, many times (not always) the character's progression moves downwards.

Not everything would be exactly like the original show, but _A Year in the Life_ set everything up to be a good head canon for it like this, if nothing else.

Lorelai got the dog in that time, you saw him in episodes before, next to Sookie or when Babette was holding him. He scratched on Rory's door (answer to your question) and he got sick and Lorelai blamed herself bc he needed her and she wasn't there, which is a direct link to feeling guilty about her fallout with Rory, who she has not talked to for months at that point. I wanted you to watch this episode because it marks a turning point and because a lot happens in it and also I personally just don't ship Rory with Logan, Jess turned out the best out of all of them, but none of them is a good fit for her. And you can even see how much she is becoming like her grandmother, they look the same standing next to each other, but this is where Rory realized it and moved back and got back in touch with her mom. Oh I forgot, him saying "I know you better than anyone" was ironic/iconic at the time bc Alexis and Milo where dating in real life for quite a while.

Something I've realised over time is Jess coming through the gate kind of implies he was hanging out in Emily and Richard's bushes for hours. 😂 We know it's late since they leave the bar after it closes and also Finn yelling 'Good mornings New Haven'. Was Jess just going to camp out all night? What if Rory had stayed at Logan's? Would he still stay until she got back or leave for the day and come back to camp out again the next night? Does he know what Rory's car looks like so knew she wasn't there when he first got there or did he think she was home and was hoping she'd just come outside at some point? Like I get why he wouldn't just knock on Richard abd Emily's door but him hanging outside brings up so many questions for me. 😂

Phone call scenes can be filmed in a few different ways. Sometimes they might do an actual call, sometimes there'll just be someone off screen reciting the the lines of the other half of the call so the person on screen knows how long to pause between lines so it flows like an actual conversation and is easier to edit together later. Apparently, it's usually the script supervisor who provides the other half of the conversation, but in some cases if the other actor is on set that day they might do it, but they wouldn't bring an actor in just to do it.
Occasionally, the other actor wants to be there to do it. And the four-way call in _When Harry Met Sally_ was filmed in real time to get the timing right.
Although in all fairness - Jess was a teenager when he behaved that way and Logan is an adult here. You're right about acting like that is never attractive, no matter the age.

Yes, Rory was into school and studying but she also likes the life her mother ran away from. And there's NOTHING wrong with that!! Rory was actually really good at event planning for upscale parties. First of all, Jess was immature when he asked Rory to run away. Secondly, Jess was upset with Rory because she wasn't being her authentic self living at her grandparents.
She was on break for the summer she could have moved to new york with him and gone back next semester and come back on the weekends

Jess does know her, you can't know the storylines by watching 2 eps a season. logan and jess are similar but also have big differences. Oh even though you watch 2 eps a season i like your videos a lot lol:)
He doesn't though, he knows a side of her. The rest he idolized. You can't claim to know someone when you don't see and talk to them for years. He knows she likes to read and she's a hard-worker. But she was also herself with Logan, she liked the rich life, and there's nothing wrong with that, but it's also her. When he claims it's not her, it's not true. Logan is the only one of her bf who actually knew her: the hard-working Rory, and the Rory who could enjoy life. He is the one who gave her the best calling out as they were both privileged but she somehow thinks she wasn't.

This is the same guy who asked Rory to QUIT Yale and run away with him literally the last time he saw her, but now he's changing his narrative? He's just upset she's with Logan and took it out on her, that's it.
Also, there's nothing wrong with working at the DAR or living that lifestyle but everybody acts like they know Rory the best 🙄 I wish she got to think for herself instead of being manipulated by Lorelai (who only wanted her to be a replica of herself)

Also, Lorlie encouraged Rory to be into school and try to get into the ivy leagues from the time she was little when Rory decided she wanted that that’s a no way making Raury into her replica sense. She was someone who dropped out of high school and made her own path without college.

@@tracim3080 Right from the third episode of the first season, we can see that Lorelai was uncomfortable when Rory enjoyed spending time with her grandpa and shared common interests. This has been reflected throughout the series where we see that Lorelai expects Rory to be against that lifestyle, but in fact she actually likes it. Yes, Rory was into school and studying but she also likes the life her mother ran away from. And there's NOTHING wrong with that!! Rory was actually really good at event planning for upscale parties. What's stupid is everyone acting like Rory joining the DAR is like joining the KKK or something

And just because Rory was good at planning and organizing doesn’t mean she should’ve been doing it for the DAR
She wanted more out of her life always did, and that’s not faulting that kind of life, but it is a waste of Rory’s talent to be used as a secretary when she could be the boss
Like lice about more than finding things are good at its about finding passion and going for shit that you actually need to do that gives you a reason to get up in the morning and actually thrive at your life

@@tracim3080 I never said Rory should have a career as a secretary. She needed this break. She was getting burnt out at college and questioning herself. And yes, Mitchum was an ass and I agree writing was one of Rory's passions that she was good at, but all I'm saying is that this time away from college gave her a chance to find out other things about herself that she's good at. I'm glad she went back, but sometimes I wonder if this was her own decision or she just did it to make Lorelai happy (because she practically shut her out and refused to even talk to her when she didn't do what she had in mind for her daughter)
