    The worse case of Poison Ivy I ever got was standing in the smoke of a spring campfire to ward off the insects. Apparently the firewood was covered in Ivy, but no leaves so we didn't know. I eventually had to go to the ER to get shots. Old calamine lotion wasn't touching it. I didn't know that it made such huge vines like what you just showed us. Thanks for sharing.

    I know the feeling .I do same loading cutting trailer techniques..only don't have dump trailer mainly dint think my trucks can pull one loaded so I put a chain on bottom of the trailer then wrap it over like burrito 🌯..hook 25ft 3 strand and pull away at dump .works 97 percent of time unless it gets hooked or something...I get frustrated when big company's have chippers and 10 guys next door or across street .if i wasn't so hurt wounded with health issues wouldn't bother me but it seriously does.

    If you're not aware, jewelweed is the natural antidote for the urishiol oil in poison ivy, oak and sumac. It works great. You can buy jewelweed infused soap. I harvest my own to make a salve because I'm allergic and well I just can't seem to avoid poison ivy as much as I'd like to 🤷‍♂️

    @boomupengineering 11 месяцев назад

    At least with this tree you were able to quickly reduce weight on the way up. My friend has some sort of pine tree that is leaning harder than this. Not much for branches and only the main trunk/spar. I'll have to be careful when cutting out the top so I don't split the tree and/or go for a ride. Might have to set up climb lines two trees on either side.

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  11 месяцев назад

      If there is any chance you can get a rope up high in that leaner and support it from high in another tree, that would be ideal. Another thing I usually do is set a high rope in the leaner and see how much it bounces when hanging on and shock loading that rope. Always good to know BEFORE you climb :)

    • @boomupengineering
      @boomupengineering 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@metaspencer Good point to test the response of the tree by shock loading it as much as I can, before climbing. I'll have to see if I can set up a rigging line in a neighboring tree. That way I am only unloading the leaner and not the combo of unloading then shock loading. Regardless, it should be fun solving the problem and getting to it. I'll have to be careful when cutting the top out so the trunk doesn't split. Thanks for your input.

    So those hairy looking vines that are velcro'ed to trees...that is either poison ivy or english ivy? I'm in TN. I have to get better at identifying it. For my life thus far I've never paid attention except last year I cut down a neighbor's tree and I got ivy-infused sawdust all over my arms. I blistered up real good and it eventually started popping up around other parts of my body. So now I do better at cleaning up afterwards.
