Tien's attack, the Kikoho is translated as Tri-Beam. He makes a triangle with his hands and shoots a blast of energy from them. But notice the crater left: it's square. Why? Because Tien is awesome, that's why.
Fun fact: It's translation is not actually Tri Beam. It's a misnomer. The dub only scripted it that way because he has three eyes. It's actual translation is "Ki Canon" or "Chi Canon". Also, if you look at the way his hands are drawn in the manga, he typically makes a square or a circle with them, not a triangle.
this actually holds up in the beginning. when he uses it on nappa he makes a half circle. i'm starting to think the animation in the this time was actually decided because they knew the english adaptions had it translated as tri-beam. so they just made a triangle shape for his hands in order to have everything make sense easier.
If you consider the 3 points of his fingers plus a forth point of his third eye, you can generate a shape which would have a flat projection of a square. And yes, I realize how pointless it is to think this hard.

With the way they're moving, the Ki Blast is a spinning triangle, which is going to make a square.
I forgot what it's called, but there's something on Wikipedia about it.
And that's why this episode is called advanced geometry.
Tien's moment against Cell is one of my favorite in the series. "YOU! Blow yourself up or leave! I don't care which!"

The Kikoho has always been Tien's strongest attack. The reason why he has only used it once in the series (against Nappa) is that it uses so much energy that it would kill him (up until this point).

Well there is two versions of it one is stronger than the other the weaker one is pretty much a regular energy beam the other one is pretty much kaioken in beam form.

When Krillin said the remote was heavier it was because he had thought about what it was used for, (killing 18) so it got heavier to him, like if you were nervous you would say "is it hot in here or is that just me?"
Kikoho is one of the old techniques of DB, albeit this one is seemingly improved as he doesn't die from it's use immediately and he can use it consecutively. It trades his life force into the blast to increase its power, hence why it's able to at least knock Cell back even if it doesn't hurt him. What's good about it is that it has a rather large, exact target size, so because he let himself be hit the first time, Cell couldn't move out of the blast range any more because Tien just kept ramming him back into the hole that was created by the blast.
Also it's always been square, english translation screwed up by calling it Tri-Beam, so people get confused on why it looks like a square despite the triangle theme (Kikoho actually meaning Energy Control Cannon)
vc180191 They're also referring to the fact that Tien makes a triangle with his hands, and you can see the energy gathering inside of it. Though there is a type of triangle that, if it spins, it can create a square shape. Since you can see three shadows spinning at 5:45, it's likely that this is the case.
There's a bit of a misconception that people have though. Life force IS Ki. They are the same thing. Whenever you use up all of your ki, including the ki required to pump the blood to your brain, you die. Also, Tien does not die from using Kikoho. He dies when he uses it at a point in battle where he doesn't have enough Ki to use it. The kikoho seems to require a specific amount of ki for every use, so if your remaining ki is less than the set amount required for a Kikoho, you die. If your body has ki left after using it, you live.

The move Tien used against Cell was the Kiko-ho, or tri-beam cannon (referring to the triangle Tien forms with his hands).
It's one of the most powerful attacks in the show, but consumes the user's life force with each shot. That's why he died after using it against Nappa, and why he collapsed and nearly died here.

Tien Shinhan's signature attack is the tri-beam, the one where he says ki ko ho, it can kill him if he over uses it. You've seen it before, when he fought Napa, it was the last attack he used before dying. His other signature ability is the solar flare.

TFS posted that they are confident in getting ep 55 out by the end of the month. hopeful that they can get 56 in october and get another movie out in november. Hellsing Ultimate, they have plans to release an episode this fall AND one this winter.

a couple of years ago they had plans to do an attack on titan abridged series but they were only able to get one episode in before youtube took it down. Erenbombastic has the episode uploaded on his channel
another series you guys would probably like would be Death Battle by screwattack. they pit two characters against each other, analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win... a death battle. they have a wide library out right now and definitely worth a watch. they occasionally hire tfs to do voicework for their episodes

kikoho is tiens finishing move. Every time he uses it he loses his life force, so too much use will kill him.

Tien had that ability since his first martial arts tournament appearance in dragon ball when Goku fought him as q kid.
He did also use this ability against Napa as well, but this was after being disarmed, so it wasn't as effective, and since it wasn't aimed at the ground, you don't get the full effect.
Also note that right before he passed out and died he says, "right handed ninjutsu." probably to tie in when picolo and krillin did thei multiform technique throwing in a Naruto reference.

the special attack tien uses is actually the tri beam cannon. but in this dub they use the original Japanese name for the attack

Lol, I always wondered why Goku never grabbed 18 and just I.T. to the Lookout, if Cell follows and gets close, just pop back to the other side of the world, he can carry her (Held Picolo AND Tien) and the other fighters can train in the HBTC until they overwhelm Cell :D
