If a few brief minutes of Shujaat & Swapan aren't enough…watch their full 45-minute performance of Alhaiya Bilawal in pristine HD on the Darbar Player, along with dozens of other captivating concerts: www.darbarplayer.com/videos/dp004-shujaat-khan We'd like to upload everything for free - but filming, editing, and hosting cost money, and we’re a small not-for-profit organisation. Signing up to the Darbar Player costs about the same as a couple of coffees a month ($5), which we hope is an excellent price for such a wealth of unique music.
Yes, I understand that it was just a small 8 minute part of the whole video. My dear friends I meant about the raaga, not about the artists. No question of commenting on Pandit Swapanji. I love him. As far as Shujaat is concerned I miss the typical Vilayatkhani baaz and ofcourse Imdadkhani style. That's the reason I said "where is the raaga " I would certainly appreciate if you feature Budhaditya Mukherjee and some of his able students who can perform real Imdadkhani gharana style.
There are many videos of Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee, I know, If you truly want to promote and propagate Pure Indian classical music, Budhaditya Mukherjee is at the forefront of all artists. Also Ustad Rashid khan, Sanjeev Abhyankar, Aniruddha Joshi(student of Budhadityaji & Acharya Bimalendu Mukherjee) Dhruv Bedi, In carnatic style there is a young wonder Abhishek Raghuram Thankyou sir

Have been a huge fan of this gharana since I was first introduced to this spiritual form of music. I wonder why people spew so much hate against ustaad ji, he's not his father and he will never be. He is a maestro and one of the top musicians of his gharana in his own right. What makes me laugh is the fact that how Europeans and Non- Indians are commenting on his style as if they are masters of this music while at the same time also ignoring the fact that Ustaad ji is the student of his father, the great Ustad Vilayat Khan and thus are raising their brows and fingers on Ustaad Vilayat Khan. I applaud Darbar for their efforts as well and would encourage them to also invite some of the great sitarists and musicians from their neighbouring country Pakistan. We have Ustaad Sajid Hussain from Senia Gharana, Ashraf Sharif Khan form Dehli Gharana, and last but not the least Farhan Rais Khan from Mewati Gharana, distant relative of Ustaad ji and son of Ustad Rais Khan,

The tabla is played slowly, but the emphasis is on highly sensitive tuning points; so much said by Pandit, Ustad tripped a few times in the dance from lesson to lesson. Totally understandable, and although not 'appreciated' per se, once you somewhat know tabla, you know that sharing a stage with this gentleman is a grand life experience. So Ustad left the raga a few times; let's be forgiving. This is discourse on the high-wire of khyal......

Overall Shujat has succeded in creating the mood of the Raga it is unethical to criticise any artist in public forum Shujat is a enjoyable musician and will always remain so
This is poor playing. In the hordes of sitar players there are in the subcontinent, they choose a player who is known for being the failed son of the greatest sitar player. Swapan da also seems uninspired.
Timothy Thomas, yours is the only educated comment here. This guy is grossly overrated. His is a case of wasted talent. He is so reconciled to his fate that he's not even bothered tuning the chikaris properly. Darbar have wasted a bunch of public money on these buffoons while occasionally putting on excellent performances by less famous but superb artists.
Wrong, dear one - although the sitar player is not the 'best,' you have to remember that first and foremost, this music is dharma. Pandit's playing isn't uninspired; it is dancing and teaching with Ustad's tuning in a fine and subtle way. It has always been the case that slower playing for the benefit of a fellow player is to be praised, when it is of benefit. I believe Pandit's playing is a display in patience and benevolence. This was clearly less entertainment, and more nada yoga - the yoga of sound. Treasures are there, for those listening. It's an intrinsically simple, giving righteousness, in both. Let both continue to blossom as artists. :) And let the audience garner wisdom from the lesson! Ustad looks like he feels like a kid in this... I kindof love it. :)
Mediocre play. He looks content repeating the same simple verse awefully many times (even when Tabla is not playing a full Palta), rather than playing something really creative and worthy.
Many Hindustani ragas are composed for vocal rendition rather than instrumental. No music in the world was meant for instrumental, especially Hindustani. I just can't find it enjoyable

Haha, I don't think you know the first thing about the gayaki ang.

disturbing this is.. too much sympathetic strings used.
Tabla very loud
On s ennuie presque le poids du père pourtant à 18 ans très prometteur ensuite maniérisme il a tout l esprit ne suis pas bizarre.

Absolutely correct. Shujat Khan is most ordinary and wayward in his improvisations.
