Thank you so much for this it explained a lot to a person who loves jazz but was confused as to how it works . I appreciate you putting this on RUclips.
At 61 I figured out stfu and let their intuitions come on line. Speak only when necessary and then with utmost respect if possible. Drop your rigid expectations.
Hi Ran - I do think Cam was at Columbia in 62! And I was at New England Conservatory 1980-84. I remember you very well. You took me to see Fritz Lang movies at Coolidge Corner. Stay safe. Warm regards from Norway.
Music has become a plot center of ideas instead of jamming or swinging it’s becoming a hassle listening to these guys explaining jazz it’s working with a lot of planning instead of spontaneous creation.
@@TheDoug2103 Haha, having just finished a jazz degree, this is very true. I suppose it was fun, but mostly just a waste of 3 years. I'm going to try to find a more normal, better paying job now
Best line of the whole thing . Sax to drummer : “I don’t care what you play, but that shit has to be in the pocket!”
No you say that during break. That old school approach really doesn't work any longer.
Rob Scheps looks like a slimmer, tenor sax playin' Chris Christie. Great video!
+albertstroke Ha! He really does!
Nice. 9 years ago. glad this video appeared. very intelligent, ....and familiar. thanks.
Thanks! It is still as relevant as it was when recorded.

I knew Rob Scheps back in the 80's. We both attended NEC. He's a crazy, wonderful musician!
I totally agree. Rob´s playing is underrated.
John Stuart He could imagine a full score visually
My best to both of you
