You know something is definitely sus when the casino, an establishment specifically designed to sucker you out of all your money is being extremely generous.
@Hawkatana Technically not a mimic, but I can see how it could be confused for one. The Sarracenia Suburbia is a large carnivorous plant-like creature. Weak to sunlight and extreme temperatures, it itself doesn't transform but pulls from its environment to create a husk to shield itself during the day.
I have heard that casinos might actually rush you out when you're on a lucky streak, because they want you to leave on a high note and in believe that you can actually make money there and beat the system. They know you will be back. They know that they win in the long run. Now go tell your friends about the good time you had there.
@Javascripter2302 i mean, did you see the quick time event it was asking of him to do so, there was a fnf chart in that thing and all it took was one miss-input for it to nearly insta kill him.
The difference in the characters' levels is such a neat detail, it really shows how much restraint and respect Brolly has too when he could easily just body Karoto with ease and drag him back. Instead he's trying to genuinely help him improve, and I find that a way more interesting dynamic than the alternative!
Putting little bars on the dialoge boxes so you know how much longer you have to read them is such a masterclass of video design that now I'm wondering how it isn't more common
Even as someone who doesn't need it 99% of the time, I greatly appreciate it. Nothing more annoying than when RUclipsrs put text boxes up for about 2 seconds and you didn't realise you were supposed to pause to read it, so you gotta roll back.
@DragonNexus Then, once you get into the habit of pausing a bunch, SOME of the text will be on screen for 2 minutes. You'll pause, read, unpause... then wait. So yeah, the progress bars are outstanding. You only pause if you feel you're about to run out of time!
@samuelescobar-garcia9487 More specifically, Sarracenia is the genus for pitcher plants, which the town mimic is very similar to, using the the facade of a town to lure unsuspecting prey.
I'm not even a recurrent watcher of this channel's content, but somehow seeing this project being able to continue brought a smile upon my face. I hope this project will end on a success for both the creators team and the audience that enjoys it.
So funny mention on post credit scene It said there was x2 tents in inventory, but we saw three in the scene, so one was a mimic, very clever Also great episode
I probably should have put that together, but my mind for some reason assumed they all "had" tents, but you can only make as many working as your inventory has.
I saw Tent x2 and was concerned that they didn't bring enough Tents, but then there were 3 tents around the campfire. I have to admit, it took me several seconds to put two and two together.
This is what success looks like to me. Not money, not fame, not power, but having the freedom and support to spread your own insane ideas to the world. This guy went from 5 minute parodies of games to being able to produce his own animated series in the span of a few years, and that’s insane. It seems his quest in life has been anything but fruitless. EDIT: Crap I made a One Piece reference subconsciously.
Amém to that, but I also hope he doesn't stop making normal videogame parodies, I saw way too many channels trying to do different content from their usual one, only to get abandoned because it's audience didn't watched the new content
Not only that, but it also lends to the idea of the party not being together when they get attacked. Karoto wasn't going to be able to easily get through seven locks if Nabiu got attacked by the furniture either
Feels like a more-than-worthy successor to RPG World, 8-Bit Theatre, and other webcomics that riffed on classic JRPGs. I loved those two comics, and I hadn't even played an FF game at the time.
I love when Nabiu goes on tangents about hyper-specific topics! Last episode was the bit about thread counts, and I genuinely couldn't stop smiling during the "reges" conversation
the question is, did they keep any of it? There's a 20 kromid gift card in Nabiu's inventory, so it looks like the money may have been fake, especially since it was in a currency they'd never heard of at an impossible exchange rate.
10:28 “ Your thrift store furniture committed assault, I need to speak with your manager.” These bizarre sentences need to be a running gag in later episodes. 😂
The "Intelligent and gallant knight who just fails to comprehend what is and isn't a normal sentence to say out loud" is an amazing character trope, we love a good socially clueless but selfless knight
I like that brolly turned to look at karoto’s stats as he leveled up, I believe that he’s aware karo is lying but still genuinely believes his friend can change- especially with that +10 heroism- indicating he is starting to in small part become genuinely heroic, even if he is still being deceitful.
I was wondering that since it said both Nabiu and Brolly used a Tent while Karato was just sitting there, I expected it to be like FF rules where 1 tent is just a party thing, but that gag was perfect lol
At the very end, the third one actually does attack him. His suspicion was not only understandable, but proven correct as soon as the other two let their guard down.
Mine was the ambient storytelling behind how the heck the Sarracenia snuck into the now-ruined town: we see in the last act that a pirate ship is part of the town, suggesting that the ship was the initial vector for infection, and since the Sarracenia spread out from that ship, it quickly assimilated the town... and Parasite Eve'd everyone. ...man Nabiu is gonna be horrified when realizing the implications of this creature.
One other detail is the towns folk having red or maroon between their legs, which is the flesh tendrils the Sarracenia uses for controlling the puppets (2:34)
@MrCat-zz5eo I don't think the Sarracenia took over an existing town, because Nabiu mentions that the town wasn't on the map. I'm guessing it just took a bunch of abandoned buildings to use as a disguise. But in either case I suppose it's not really clear how it got there. 🤷♂️
@MrCat-zz5eo19:07 I don't think they're zombies, I think they're just extensions of the creature, which is stated to be a plant, that are badly mimicking people. As for how it got there, I don't think it's a complicated story. We know there wasn't originally a town there, the sarracencia plopped itself down on Mouswhisker territory. I think it got the architecture from an existing town, and just wanders looking for empty plots of land to disguise itself on.
After all the horror movies and shows which I have seen over the past 20 years, I consider the unmasking in this episode somewhat tame, especially composed to the middle of The Amazing Digital Circus (namely Episodes 3 and 4).
And he probably learned the bottoms combo techniques of both styles from an expert in fighting games like Street Fighter/Tekken and rhythm games like Dance Dance Revolution and Friday Night Funkin'.
Not having Brolly level up from 5000 exp is such a cool way of showing his power. That whole ordeal wasn't enough for him to benefit from it, just another Tuesday for him.
@HeavySighSA To be fair, he's part of the royal knightS, there's probably multiple other knights on his level he usually fights with when he goes out to fight something.
16:31 it was at this moment i realized as the mouse was under nabiu's hat that she is actually a blueberry. And here I thought she was just some blue kid. WOW
He's awesome! Fighting a town head on takes guts, while the more puzzly members of the party figure out how to kill it. ...Didn't even level up either. I bet he's seen crazier stuff, too.
I totally thought the broccoli knight was going to be some sort of reoccuring villain. It's kinda nice to see him join the party and be some sort of protector of the group (or at least Nabiu)
I noticed that detail and was a little confused. I feel dumb for not connecting the dots. I do that too often in movies. I somehow notice the foreshadowing, but fail to realize what it means and still end up getting surprised...
Nabiu is genuinely one of my favorite animated series right now, it's such a clever and fun world that uses TM's sense of humor perfectly. It's one of those projects that you can tell has been the creator's dream project for ages, and it's amazing to finally see it come to fruition! Also Nabiu is blue and that's cool :)
Her color undoubtedly comes from the naming convention theme the series uses. Nabiu is Catalan for "blueberry", Karoto is Esperanto for "carrot", and the Broccoli Knight... Well I'm sure you can guess.
@alexmeans4379There may get be a partial Dragon Ball thing too. Given Kakarot and Broly follow the same naming convention. Ironically, their personalities are probably complete inversions of the DBZ characters though.
The idea of a gigantic mimic-like monster that disguises itself as an entire town is peak creative fantasy writing. This episode was great. Awesome work Jeremy!
I'm so, SO happy this series is continuing. I love how, among the myriad evidence that the town isn't right, is the fact that the dialogue "feels" LLM generated, with a template and "next token" blank being filled in, and the text on signs and things has that "almost but not quite real text" look like text from a diffusion-based image generator. It immediately conveys the sense that the heroes are dealing with something that mimics intelligence and civilization instead of actually having it. And it's a great detail how the "people" who are really just parts of the monster are using umbrellas because it's weak to sunlight. Interestingly, the cloak Karoto got from the town seems to spawn specifically carrot-like monsters out of it when it finally goes bad.
I also noticed the mini evil carrots!! Such a cool detail and it makes me wonder the significance of that. Also while Nabiu's stuff attacked her, it looked like the monster's tendrils, but Karoto's stuff took on his form, which lines up with how the creature uses what is around it to disguise itself. I just love the little details in this series =)
CaptainCFalcon Nabiu's name is blueberry in Catalan, so she's very likely a sentient blueberry-critter, just as Karoto is a Carrot and Brolly is a... well, not yet a Bio-Broly.
I love the detail of there only being 2 tents in the inventory hinting at the final joke. And of course, Brolly being so tired he didn't care that his tent barely covered his face. Just look at his remaining HP and stamina, he needed that sleep for sure.
Brolly has appeared for less than half of an episode, and already he’s my favorite character. The subversion of expectations was masterful; seeing a menacing looking royal guard, gigantic in stature, face covered by a helmet, with red eyes and a deep voice, who 5 minutes later we learn is Karoto’s parole officer and wants to genuinely help him be a better person and get rid of his charges, protecting Nabiu without a second though (and Karoto, albeit reluctantly), listening to her plans and adapting accordingly, and being a general badass, but a kind one. Also the fact that he joins Nabiu’s party without even a second thought is pretty funny, and I hope he becomes a permanent member of the party. Also, and this is just me theorizing, but what if the reason Brolly wants to help Karoto so much is because they were maybe… childhood friends? Maybe they had similar goals as kids, to help others, and protect the Broccoli Kingdom, but, for some reason, their paths diverged, and Karoto had to resort to a life of crime, while his friend had to watch, unable to help… just a theory :)
For a character that supposedly has a high luck stat, things like that happen surprisingly often. I wonder if he invested too much into luck that some event calculations overflow...
I imagine that's just a game way to say the people that watched the video before it's finalization and suggested some things to make it better, that or people who found some bugs in the video
15:57 I love how Brolly arms the cannon by racking back the fuse like it's a pump-action. I hope they keep that cannon in the inventory to use as Brollys new weapon to replace his great sword. As a melee weapon, they didn't grab any cannonballs
The fight from episode 1 is still one of the best choreographed fights I can remember in any kind of animation, the amount of creativity and love put into this series is palpable. I love Nabiu!
Agreed! This series has just the right amount of silly and epic in its fights in my opinion! Looking forward to what the next episode has in store! But college will keep me busy in the meantime.
18:29-18:33 It still *baffles* me looking at these credits and seeing TM did *_ALL_* the work minus the music by himself. NGL Jeremy, if you're reading this, it's guys like you that help inspire and encourage me to work on my own 2D animation dream. And I thank you for that! So the knight's name is *Brolly,* and he's good friends with a guy named *Karoto.* There's a Dragon Ball joke in this relationship Jeremy dropped here, *but I can't prove it.*
Thank you!! The Play Testers gave me some great suggestions during production, but yeah! I did all of the visuals. The boss wasn't just a boss for Nabiu and her party, it was like a boss for me to animate too! 😂
@TerminalMontage I can only imagine the amount of *_time_* that went into animating Sarracenia Suburbia. But I can also see it absolutely *_worth it_* in your eyes.
Gotta agree on that, the work here is super impressive. Final boss gonna be quaking in its boots when Nabiu shows up after recruiting an entire team of Saiyans
@TerminalMontage You animated ALL OF THIS!? That is insanely impressive. The shot of the Mouswhisker fountain at the end was gorgeous. The style in general is so nice. I've been watching your videos for a long time now but I think these are my favorite work of yours.
I love all the little details, like how you can see the weird tendril things between the legs of/behind the people Nabiu questions at the start, how Nabiu only shows up after Brolly talks about Karoto being a criminal because they had to take the time to unlock their door (I think), how they get a sapling from the boss, which goes on to disguise itself as a tent to attack Karoto at the end, which you can even notice because they only had two tents, and how so far, both of the boss themes feature the instrument Karoto rolls. All these little details are just amazing, and shows how much care and attention was put into this
I would also like to mention that the bosses seem to incorporate disguising yourself as a particular scenery you would see in a JRPG. In part 1, it is the sweet old grandma living in the woods. In part 2, it is an irrelevant city with a gimmick (in this case, everybody is masked and there is a casino).
Fr, if Brolly went more on offense rather than defense he probably could've twisted that mimic into a pretzel. Nice of him to let Karo and Nabiu get some hits in.
lots of things i love about this since watching the previous ep Everything about this is a love letter to 80s to 2000's rpg games - the loading text bubbles - Treasuresaurus Rex being an enemy that rewrds high money but runs away- seriously, the best monster I HAVE EVER SEEN - Mimic tentacles saying random npc lines that ignore Nabiu actual question - gambling casino is probably a reference to dragon quest - Action buttons like in paper mario - Brolly not getting that much exp. shows how powerful he is I cant wait to see more, I can wait as long as you can cook
19:30 this man Brolly is such a tank that he uses a tent might as well be a blanket. He was able to fire a cannon with one arm by the fuse. Im sure the friction from his pure strength alone just lit the cannon and fired immediately. Speaking of which this man was on 5 hp and 3 stamina left at the end stats. He should basically be crawling. I feel like describing Brolly would be like those chuck norris jokes.
One small detail I really like is that Karoto still responds to Nabi when she's going on a super technical tangent in a way that shows he's still listening even if he clearly has other things he's focusing on.
10:37 I knew there was something very wrong with the whole setting, but I was not expecting that jump scare. Impressive work Jeremey on making this genuinely terrifying jump scare.
Ahh, yeah now that I look at it I can see it’s a plant too! There’s a flower in his eye and growing out of his skull Also I audibly said “WHAT IS THAT!?!?” to the confusion of my sister who was in the room with me, so yeah good jumpscare lol
I don't think it can be defined as a jump scare. It's more of a reveal. No loud sudden sound or a fast sudden movement, which would make it a jumpscare by definition. But I personally really like it. I could tell something was off too (it was pretty obvious), but I thought it would be vampires that would steal everything back in the night.
12:36 You know I had the thought "How can Karoto see that far, he must have good eyesight-" And I genuinely don't know how intended the joke of him being a carrot that has good eyesight is
I absolutely LOVE the tiny details in these! The fact that in the post credits scene there are only 2 tents in the inventory is actual gold. PLEASE keep up the outstanding work my guy.
This series has so much joy and whimsy in it, I love it so much. Brolly sticking around makes me feel a lot better since Nabiu is less likely to be tricked by Karo if someone else is around.
Although this series has peak comedy moments in each scene. i absolutely love how intense the boss fight with the mimic was, the way karoto was fighting to breath as smoke filled the shipwreck and he was getting dragged away from their only weapon screaming in terror was so good. Especially the anticipation building as he fumbles to reach the lock holding the cannon in place the pay off works so well. Crossing my fingers there will an eventual ep 3!
So glad we're gonna have the full series! You take your time animating, dude! You ROCK! Aw man, I wish I could understand women, why does the carrot get that ability?
As soon as Nabiu said the town didn’t exist on the map my inner DnD player was screaming to just turn around and leave as fast as possible. But the mouswhisker prince was saved so this was all worth it!
I giggled so much when Nabiu put those big shoes on and when the Mousewhisker king put the tiny little crown on the prince. You're so good at designing little cute critters
I cannot even begin to explain how this series makes my heart feel so light. It is just so much fun, creative, and the perfect mix of old shows I miss. Sir Brolly I was not expected to turn out this way but I’m not complaining! Guy is a true tank which is always needed in a good party
15:45 Karoto's got some STRENGTH to his voice to be able to scream that loudly at that distance! That, or they're able to communicate pseudo-telepathically with dialogue (which given how level up stats and similar UI elements can be seen by other characters, that very well could be a world mechanic at play)
I like how you have a light RPG-mechanics motif going with the three characters: Nabiu- JRPG (subject to hard stats, powerful, one-off abilities and rigidly sticks to her mage class IE: Dragonquest) Karoto- Western RPG (Dice rolling, improvisation, and doesn't adhere too close to any archetype currently, IE: Elder Scrolls) Brolly- ARPG (No dice or stats at all, gear-focused, and has deliberate, thoughtful attacks IE: Dark Souls)
I absolutely love how your signature style, both in art and humor, have so perfectly translated into an original series. Really hoping this goes all the way and ends up being a full season, this much effort deserves a proper conclusion when the time comes!
Brolly is a real one, also an absolute unit! Great addition to the squad, I can't wait to see who else will be joining Nabiu and Karato in their adventures
Special thanks to MyNewSoundtrack for composing The Fruitless Quests Of Nabiu Original Soundtrack! You can listen to it over on his channel ruclips.net/channel/UCDpXkkO-zrCJBByrdERqKMw
Can’t wait for the steam release. Wishlisting it now
I love this the megaman videos were so cool glad yo see you guys collabing
I cannot express how amazing this little series is, I absolutely love it! The music is awesome too!
HELLL YEAHHHHHHHH!!!!! A new episode of nabiu quest. Can wait for the new episode❤❤❤👍👍👍
MNS did incredible with this series, I can't wait to hear what else he's got cooking up for future boss fights!
We all thought Brolly was gonna be the main antagonist of the series, but turns out he was just a bro(colli)!
I about spit out my drink when he turned out to be a parole officer
Reminds me a bit of Stenier in Final Fantasy 9, except Brolly is a reasonable bro
Dude may be named Brolly, but he’s built like Broly.
@arescosan Same. Love that guy, every rpg needs a Stenier of their own, even a Ganz Rothschild archetypal character.
@Acemancello They are a parole knight, not a parole officer, very different yknow
You know this town is suspect when the casino actually lets him leave with more money than he came in with...
You know something is definitely sus when the casino, an establishment specifically designed to sucker you out of all your money is being extremely generous.
You know what they say: the Mimic always wins.

They know you will be back. They know that they win in the long run. Now go tell your friends about the good time you had there.
@Rinof10 This one has been to a few unlucky places; judging by the brick style buildings, the old Pirate ship, and all the equipment in the shop.
I saw it coming but I still love how Brolly is such a high level the encounter didn't give him enough EXP for a level up.
And yet he failed the parry smh
@Javascripter2302 i mean, did you see the quick time event it was asking of him to do so, there was a fnf chart in that thing and all it took was one miss-input for it to nearly insta kill him.
I thought that too 😂
@apollyonnoctis1291well failing 1 input in a fnf mod is usually instant death
The difference in the characters' levels is such a neat detail, it really shows how much restraint and respect Brolly has too when he could easily just body Karoto with ease and drag him back. Instead he's trying to genuinely help him improve, and I find that a way more interesting dynamic than the alternative!
I love how the loading screen lags
Gets me literally every time
Thought went into this stupid detail. The care just radiates off these animations, it’s a joy to watch
I’ll be perfectly honest when I say that you got me good when Brolly just sat down for a civilized talk with Karoto
Brolly new best character, he's just a chill guy who wants to see Karo improve himself, we love to see a supportive friend like him!
@MeloniestNeonAGREED
I wonder how long they’ve known each other
Broly and kakarot
@YecatsRotcorp-j1g I KNEW THEIR NAMES SOUNDED FAMILIAR
"Karo, your die!"
"NO YOU DIE!"
best interaction so far
(12:19) I agree with this so much just to because I had to rewatch it like 10 times bore I stopped cackling at it
Such a great interaction. My wife didnt get it but I cackled.
Also cycling through the menu just before is such a good detail
It also ends up being an indirect follow-up to the discussion of plural-ness from earlier (though that might be a coincidence).
I think that's foreshadowing that those will become enemies one day in comedy.
Putting little bars on the dialoge boxes so you know how much longer you have to read them is such a masterclass of video design that now I'm wondering how it isn't more common
The little lag during the loading screens, too!

So yeah, the progress bars are outstanding. You only pause if you feel you're about to run out of time!
Plus, it acts as a pretty good accessibility feature (depending on where you are looking)
The time is generous too! Most people read fairly slow, and it's adjusted for those readers as it should be.
12:46
That's gotta be the Sarracenia's strongest attack:
after all, the House always wins.
Stupendium?
@lukiwei9468it’s the name of the town mimick boss.
12:47
Nice one, Father.
@samuelescobar-garcia9487 More specifically, Sarracenia is the genus for pitcher plants, which the town mimic is very similar to, using the the facade of a town to lure unsuspecting prey.

I love the fact that Brolly just joined the loading screen when he was added to the party
interesting way of conveying he joined without too much fanfare
Speaking of the loading screen, I love how it pauses ever so slightly to capture that TRUE video game feeling.
"My tax dollars finally at work" BRO I LAUGHED SO HARD 🤣
He really want to be paid by Broccoli Kingdom isn't it?
He want to finally see why so much of his money is disappearing
Animacion del año, wue este cideo ses una bendición y más animaciones nuevas hagan su aparicion de una vez😊😊
and flying off without another worddd 💀
That part was so good. 🤣🤣
I LOVE how the Mimic feels like an actual JRPG multi-stage bossfight.
The sarraceina suburbia is a plant not a mimic
Complete with QTEs!
So funny mention on post credit scene
It said there was x2 tents in inventory, but we saw three in the scene, so one was a mimic, very clever
Also great episode
it must have been the sapling of the city
I probably should have put that together, but my mind for some reason assumed they all "had" tents, but you can only make as many working as your inventory has.
I just sorta assumed that Brolly's tent came from his own inventory, but Karoto was right to be paranoid.
Which is ironic, because it turned out that Karoto wasn't being too tense about using it
I saw Tent x2 and was concerned that they didn't bring enough Tents, but then there were 3 tents around the campfire.
I have to admit, it took me several seconds to put two and two together.
This is what success looks like to me. Not money, not fame, not power, but having the freedom and support to spread your own insane ideas to the world. It seems his quest in life has been anything but fruitless.
EDIT: Crap I made a One Piece reference subconsciously.
Word.
Absolutely!
I couldn't agree with you more!
This has also been cooking since 2009 with the side quests comic, so glad he could come back to that idea
Amém to that, but I also hope he doesn't stop making normal videogame parodies, I saw way too many channels trying to do different content from their usual one, only to get abandoned because it's audience didn't watched the new content
Nabiu having a bunch of locks on her door is a great way to show that despite her naive-ness she still understands how to be safe in the real world
At the risk of sounding like ☝️🤓, the noun form of naive is naivete (pronounced naive-eh-tay). Or naivety if you want to sound less French.
@gryphonstern how very Nabiu-esque of you 😛
I keep forgetting that Naibu is a she for some reason.
@MythicMachina Nabiu has "little guy syndrome," which often elicits he/him pronoun usage from spectators.
Not only that, but it also lends to the idea of the party not being together when they get attacked. Karoto wasn't going to be able to easily get through seven locks if Nabiu got attacked by the furniture either
Brolly politely knocking on Karo's door right before kicking it down was a pretty great preview for what his personality turned out to be.
Okay the vibe of sitting on a title screen just listening to music is definitely a gamer thing and I love that this preview is just literally that
I love how this show feels like a video game story and cartoon story at the same time.
Makes sense from a cartoon youtuber than specializes in videogame summaries.
Feels like a more-than-worthy successor to RPG World, 8-Bit Theatre, and other webcomics that riffed on classic JRPGs.
I loved those two comics, and I hadn't even played an FF game at the time.
@EGRJ I love the fact that there is a perfect blend of both medieval and modern themes in this show.
I love when Nabiu goes on tangents about hyper-specific topics! Last episode was the bit about thread counts, and I genuinely couldn't stop smiling during the "reges" conversation
There's also her comment about soda, and how it can be used to clean toilets.
She's a nerd.
High INT is common among mages
watching this series makes me feel like i'm playing a brand new RPG on christmas as a kid again
20:08 MAN will NEVER trust a building again
And he was right. He still got attacked just laying there lol
I swear if a gazebo shows up I will vomit laughter
If it ends up being the one building that DOESN'T come to life I will die of excessive laughter
Karoto gained +1 PTSD!
@shaydystheshadowqueen9584 I know exactly what you’re referring to, and honestly now I might as well now
Next time use fire
"+0 Piano lessons" terminalmontage videos never cease to amaze
Karo decided the reboot the science show this episode.
@EmbeiiiWHOSE IDEA WAS THIS?!
@alexmeans4379Daniel Thrasher apparently
@Jack_chan7We're referencing ASDF movie.
@EmbeiiiI know. You did not need to specify. I apologize if I came off as insulting.
That moment when you realize the mimic town got all of that money to give Karo from its previous victims.
the question is, did they keep any of it?
There's a 20 kromid gift card in Nabiu's inventory, so it looks like the money may have been fake, especially since it was in a currency they'd never heard of at an impossible exchange rate.
I just kinda assumed the money was made up. Since the town monster is a plant, as it says in the credits, maybe those could be it's leaves?
@Crepusculo-f8o “This stuff isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on… AND IT’S NOT EVEN PRINTED YET!!”
That and Nabiu and Karo's treasure items were fake as well.
@daftish_birdman The ones they bought, not the ones they got from the T-Rex.
"The fruitless quests of Nabiu"
Her allies are vegetables.
*chef's kiss*
Ooooh, Oooooh!
I guess you can say the veggies bring a lot to the table.
Isn't Nabiu a blueberry?
10:28 “ Your thrift store furniture committed assault, I need to speak with your manager.” These bizarre sentences need to be a running gag in later episodes. 😂
The "Intelligent and gallant knight who just fails to comprehend what is and isn't a normal sentence to say out loud" is an amazing character trope, we love a good socially clueless but selfless knight
The additional layer of comedy that the reason he thinks furniture is attacking people was that it wasn't purchased firsthand is what really sells it.
@nickmalachai2227 Well, when the thrifted loveseat has a colony of fleas or bed bugs...
bizarre? Like some sort of Adventure?
Brolly is Karen confirmed
What I got from this is that Wizzro pays his taxes in dollars instead of Kromids.
How much Kromids is that worth ?
He's also a Mimic.
Brolly just not fitting in his tent at all got me
I like that brolly turned to look at karoto’s stats as he leveled up, I believe that he’s aware karo is lying but still genuinely believes his friend can change- especially with that +10 heroism- indicating he is starting to in small part become genuinely heroic, even if he is still being deceitful.
Small detail, but i love how in the ending the menu says they only have two tents, which makes Karoto's superstition way more justified
Ooo thats a good point
I was wondering that since it said both Nabiu and Brolly used a Tent while Karato was just sitting there, I expected it to be like FF rules where 1 tent is just a party thing, but that gag was perfect lol
Based on how Brolly is sleeping, maybe for him it’s just a small blanket from his own inventory
At the very end, the third one actually does attack him. His suspicion was not only understandable, but proven correct as soon as the other two let their guard down.
@sgoldendragon3603I clicked off too early, you’re right lmao.
I love the little details, like Nabiu noticing a mouswhisker in the "town" which they normally didn't go into.
@ScorpionClaws789only reason I'm not questioning its plumbing ability is because it probably took that hotel all at once, land and all.
That mask slip genuinely made me shiver, the discrepancy between the cute simplistic style and that face was very good for the surprise effect
Dudes amazing at the sudden realism. It always adds something when he does it, like in that one Kirby one
I guess that's the Courage the Cowardly Dog inspiration showing up
After all the horror movies and shows which I have seen over the past 20 years, I consider the unmasking in this episode somewhat tame, especially composed to the middle of The Amazing Digital Circus (namely Episodes 3 and 4).
I haven't seen any comments mentioning how hilarious it is that understanding women is a bonus on par with quadruple crit and 90% damage reduction.
Remember that one Knuckles quote
I’ve actually been thinking about that “understand women” part
Which makes it twice as funny that he didn’t understand the “your die” bit during the fight.
Brolly has a lot of guts to try and parry a train being swung at him.
Let alone with all of those button inputs.
Brolly probably learned to fight trains from a martial artist...
And he probably learned the bottoms combo techniques of both styles from an expert in fighting games like Street Fighter/Tekken and rhythm games like Dance Dance Revolution and Friday Night Funkin'.
Bro wasn't Sabin, but he tried his best.
That parry system was nuts
to be fair, he hit all but one, and that's because it changed from X to B at the last second (or, that change meaning he hit a mis-input last second)
Not having Brolly level up from 5000 exp is such a cool way of showing his power. That whole ordeal wasn't enough for him to benefit from it, just another Tuesday for him.
....A tuesday that left him 5hp from death and utterly out of resources.
Man's got a hard job.
@HeavySighSA To be fair, he's part of the royal knightS, there's probably multiple other knights on his level he usually fights with when he goes out to fight something.
@HeavySighSA Man does weekends in Leyndell; he can handle it.
He's also on a much higher level than the other two
He's only level 35 too
might have to go rewatch episode 1 of this peak real quick
true
same
You should, it was especially fun rewatching it knowing ep 2 is coming out!
Agreed
Same
16:31 it was at this moment i realized as the mouse was under nabiu's hat that she is actually a blueberry. And here I thought she was just some blue kid. WOW
Dude, Brolly was at the verge of death after the battle with that 5 hp
holy cow you're right, I didn't even notice
He got hit with a TRAIN. I’m surprised he LIVED.
He's awesome! Fighting a town head on takes guts, while the more puzzly members of the party figure out how to kill it.
...Didn't even level up either. I bet he's seen crazier stuff, too.
he might have taken up towards 6000 damage that fight. that was a close one. thankfully he had just enough to take it!
RTSR greatsword parry god build. I can respect it.
Broccoli/Brolly the Parole Knight is my new favorite
Mine too!
broly
Same honestly. He’s so cool
real he's so epic :D
Go broly go go
I totally thought the broccoli knight was going to be some sort of reoccuring villain. It's kinda nice to see him join the party and be some sort of protector of the group (or at least Nabiu)
Use: Tent x2
*3 Tents Appear*
Me: Uh Oh.
Sarracenia Sapling x1
Excellent foreshadowing.
It totally fooled me! 🤣
Really, but I expect all, but not this;D
I noticed that detail and was a little confused. I feel dumb for not connecting the dots. I do that too often in movies. I somehow notice the foreshadowing, but fail to realize what it means and still end up getting surprised...
@Claire-n8h I figure it's better to get surprised. You can nerd it out on the second viewing!
Ah, now i have that one song in my head, thanks to your blue comment.
Way past cool, in fact.
@markusfassbinder8275 I'm blue dabu dee dabu dai
18:10 oh god that means there's *TAXES* in this world
I mean-... SOMEONES got to pay if theres city sized mimics and treasure hoarding T-rexes
@Some_random_astronautyou said it wrong even though they said in the episode /j
Tithes. Since medieval times
Probably much older
two things you can't escape: death, and taxes
3:22 can't believe he slipped in a miles edgeworth and i didn't even notice
And himself just a few seconds before. I wonder how many others of the “people” were references?
I thought that was him, I'm glad I wasn't just imagining things!
Phoenix Edgeworth love child maybe, spiky hair in back and magenta, but wearing a red tie instead of cravat.
I had to do a double take when I saw that
@Omega_speedI’m like 99% sure the shopkeeper is Brassius
15:07 I CAST INSTANT LUNG CANCER
The idea of a gigantic mimic-like monster that disguises itself as an entire town is peak creative fantasy writing. This episode was great. Awesome work Jeremy!
And disguising the fact that the people are just puppeted corpses with masks is super smart
I think Mr. Montage rewrote the entire episode to salt about AU, which is why it took so long, and I love it.
@AyAhOhOoh
AU?
@AyAhOhOoh what's au?
This would've been the greatest twist of a Soulslike. The world ITSELF becomes a boss battle!
CaptainCFalconNabiu is a blueberry lmao
when i saw the town i thought of the reverse false hydra story in a dnd campaign if youve seen that
CaptainCFalconYeah, I don't remember where exactly he said it but yeah, this isn't even a "trust me bro" moment, it just is
CaptainCFalcon Nabiu's name is blueberry in Catalan, so she's very likely a sentient blueberry-critter, just as Karoto is a Carrot and Brolly is a... well, not yet a Bio-Broly.
10:12 I love the subtle effects of the loading screen lagging
Bro didn't optimize the game well for RUclipsOS
@AbaGamerN Hey, if the only moments that lag can be noticed is in the reasonably short loading screen, I am not complaining.
A game theory
Wasn't he also in some parts of episode 1, some of the Postcredits especially?
@thebluecloak7273I don’t remember, but maybe
He also was at 5 hp at the end of the episode
@thebluecloak7273 Yeah
19:21 GET MY MAN BROLLY SOME REST HE IS BARELY HANGING ON
The tankiest tank that ever did tank
Bro parry a train and still have 5 hp left, talk about a clutch
@augusthareAnd took an entire building to the neck! Also said building must be incredibly strong to hold so long under a speeding TRAIN
@augustharehe didn't even parry the train he failed the parry and facetanked it
"throw another piano at it." the lesser know bard weapon, piano fu is the best type of martial arts.
I just noticed at 16:33 the mouswhisker on the far left is upsidedown
20:02 I was thinking: "that tents gonna wake up and attack him, isn't it?" And I was right!
Most people would think that. I also love that there’s a little gag at the end of every video that most people would miss! :)
Their inventory only showed two tents so yeah, called it.
For a character that supposedly has a high luck stat, things like that happen surprisingly often.
I wonder if he invested too much into luck that some event calculations overflow...
@overforest1195 High luck means high karma to balance it out. Especially since he is a deceitful person.
@superdragonbros9751 really making every second of the video worth watching haha
the end screen just being nabiu's diary is such a great touch!
18:36 WHAT DO YOU MEAN PLAY TESTERS?!
THAT SURE SOUNDS LIKE A HINT TO ME
If this legit becomes a game I might just turn 12 again lol
Maybe this whole series is just an elaborate animated retelling of a DnD campaign?
INWAS JUST LOOKING OVER THE CREDITS AND SAW THAT BIT. LIKE WDIM PLAYTESTERS?????
I imagine that's just a game way to say the people that watched the video before it's finalization and suggested some things to make it better, that or people who found some bugs in the video
15:57 I love how Brolly arms the cannon by racking back the fuse like it's a pump-action.
I hope they keep that cannon in the inventory to use as Brollys new weapon to replace his great sword. As a melee weapon, they didn't grab any cannonballs
Using a cannon as a heavy melee weapon sounds hilarious for some reason. 😂
@Jazzin96Like using a ballista in elden ring
It’d be like Bowser using a **** bazooka
The fight from episode 1 is still one of the best choreographed fights I can remember in any kind of animation, the amount of creativity and love put into this series is palpable. I love Nabiu!
Thank you!!
Agreed! This series has just the right amount of silly and epic in its fights in my opinion!
Looking forward to what the next episode has in store! But college will keep me busy in the meantime.
Ikr the fight scenes are so freaking cool!!
18:29-18:33
It still *baffles* me looking at these credits and seeing TM did *_ALL_* the work minus the music by himself.
@TerminalMontage How long DID it take to fully animate that thing? And is there a discord where we can watch you drawing future scenes...
All these little details are just amazing, and shows how much care and attention was put into this
Nabiu: frantically trying to open door “my friend needs me!”
Oh my carrots! I didn't even put 2 and 2 together about the seed taking over Karoto's tent! 🤯
Idk but my favorite joke is just nabiu asking “ what is it” and Karo answering “looks like a four” as a bright light engulfs them.
I love the touch that Brolly didn’t level up because they’re so overleveled compared to everyone else
Fr, if Brolly went more on offense rather than defense he probably could've twisted that mimic into a pretzel.
Nice of him to let Karo and Nabiu get some hits in.
@SkyeWintersZW This is such a noob mistake. Going all in atk just to get 1shot by the boss. Brolly barely survive with all the tank stat he got, lol
@SkyeWintersZWAbsolutely not, Bro was on 5 outta 3000 HP. If he fought that on his own he was gonna get steamed.
19:53 aww the hills in the back have sleeping caps. Loved this episode !
I DIDNT NOTICE THAT!! That is so cute
@Shiny_psyduckFR!
He never fails with the details
Also karoto actually getting attacked by the tent after saying that it would is hilarious
lots of things i love about this since watching the previous ep
Everything about this is a love letter to 80s to 2000's rpg games
- the loading text bubbles
- Treasuresaurus Rex being an enemy that rewrds high money but runs away- seriously, the best monster I HAVE EVER SEEN
- Mimic tentacles saying random npc lines that ignore Nabiu actual question
- gambling casino is probably a reference to dragon quest
- Action buttons like in paper mario
- Brolly not getting that much exp. shows how powerful he is
I cant wait to see more, I can wait as long as you can cook
10:12 I love that mimics how loading screens would stutter as things load in.
You mean like... "Brolly is so strong, he destroyed a town by snapping his fingers" (thus lighting the fuse)?
Brolly with 5 HP: 'I DIDN'T HEAR NO BELL.'
@SkyeWintersZWBasically any Tank class. "I paid for the HP bar, i'm gonna USE the HP bar!"
@MythicMachina And then there's Demon King Ganondorf using his own comically large HP bar as a weapon. TerminalMontage is an absolute legend.
Like, "When Brolly moved out, his dad became the man of the house" type of jokes?
One small detail I really like is that Karoto still responds to Nabi when she's going on a super technical tangent in a way that shows he's still listening even if he clearly has other things he's focusing on.
I'd really want a friend like that and would want to be that type of friend.
4:22 holy smokes that passive ability alone is to die for.
10:37 I knew there was something very wrong with the whole setting, but I was not expecting that jump scare. Impressive work Jeremey on making this genuinely terrifying jump scare.
Ahh, yeah now that I look at it I can see it’s a plant too! There’s a flower in his eye and growing out of his skull
Also I audibly said “WHAT IS THAT!?!?” to the confusion of my sister who was in the room with me, so yeah good jumpscare lol
Not bad personally
@staysilent4392 Me too. Finally, good quality horror aspects that aren't always in your face or loud for no reason.
@staysilent4392definitely gave me a scare.
The premiere video being a loading screen/main menu with the OST is absolute genius, I hope we get to see that in Episode 3 😊
Yeah, it was!
The Forshadowing of Brolly's actual strength when everyone else leveled up after a boss battle but him
12:36 You know I had the thought
"How can Karoto see that far, he must have good eyesight-"
And I genuinely don't know how intended the joke of him being a carrot that has good eyesight is
I absolutely LOVE the tiny details in these!
The fact that in the post credits scene there are only 2 tents in the inventory is actual gold.
PLEASE keep up the outstanding work my guy.
PEAK IS BACK ON THE MENU
Karoto’s face expressions are absolute gold. Had me laughing throughout the whole episode!
So glad we're gonna have the full series! You take your time animating, dude! You ROCK!
Aw man, I wish I could understand women, why does the carrot get that ability?
Brolly joining the crew was a very pleasant plot twist. Figured his scene with the grandma was just comic relief, but he’s actually just that chill
I love that Brollys big fat head appears outside the tent.
As soon as Nabiu said the town didn’t exist on the map my inner DnD player was screaming to just turn around and leave as fast as possible. But the mouswhisker prince was saved so this was all worth it!
I truly love how Brolly looks like a broccoli, but I didn’t expect him to actually be a broccoli! That’s so amazing.
I mean... Karoto.
@e@eligellock165Yes I realize that too.
@eligellock165 And Nabiu is a blueberry
My wife and I are grateful that we live in the timeline with Terminal Montage and Nabiu
I just wanna say the choregraphy and rythm of the fight are so well done, CONGRATS TO YOU !
Something about that little flurry of grass animation at 1:50...just a little detail that just makes this feel special
Very well said friend, cheers.
Right? :D
I appreciated that too
I giggled so much when Nabiu put those big shoes on and when the Mousewhisker king put the tiny little crown on the prince. You're so good at designing little cute critters
Talk about hostile architecture
LMAO
Ba dum tsss
I'm ashamed that I didn't think of that one
Forget making architecture painful for the homeless, make it painful for the living
That was a good one!
fantastic piece of art, and absolutely worth the wait!
4:18
that face is killing me bru, he REALLY loves money.
Can you really blame him? Who doesn't love having more money in their pockets?
Karoto: "Hello! I like *money!"*
It's going to be worthless everywhere else
Please also set this music as a track. This is great and I would like to still be able to listen to it after the full video is out.
MyNewSoundtrack made the Nabiu OST! His channel is linked in the description!
This track is called MAGE Intern!
@TerminalMontage Thank you for the info, these are glad tidings indeed poyo
Can the nabiu soundtrack also be on spotify
Can the nabiu soundtrack also be on deezer
@TerminalMontage I want this to be a video game SO BADLY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dude, the idea of a mimic TOWN is so cool, and it was so awesome to see it in motion!! I can’t wait for the next episode
What a great idea this episode was. A town-sized mimic works really well!
I cannot even begin to explain how this series makes my heart feel so light. It is just so much fun, creative, and the perfect mix of old shows I miss.
Sir Brolly I was not expected to turn out this way but I’m not complaining! Guy is a true tank which is always needed in a good party
I'm so glad this show is happening, the pilot is one of my favourite videos on this channel
15:45 Karoto's got some STRENGTH to his voice to be able to scream that loudly at that distance! That, or they're able to communicate pseudo-telepathically with dialogue (which given how level up stats and similar UI elements can be seen by other characters, that very well could be a world mechanic at play)
I mean…it was life or death. His voice will probably be sore for a little while.
Absolutely loving this series :D
1:59 really using nabiu’s rpg mechanics to your advantage karoto
His greed sickens me
His greed pleases me
@Thebigshoot-i9n of course it does you’re a [[BIG SHOT]]
Surprised this didn't end with him being overencumbered with all that. Karoto's got good... bones? Structure? Beta-carotene?
@survivorofthecurse717 Or a bottomless inventory. That works too-
I like how you have a light RPG-mechanics motif going with the three characters:
Nabiu- JRPG (subject to hard stats, powerful, one-off abilities and rigidly sticks to her mage class IE: Dragonquest)
Karoto- Western RPG (Dice rolling, improvisation, and doesn't adhere too close to any archetype currently, IE: Elder Scrolls)
Brolly- ARPG (No dice or stats at all, gear-focused, and has deliberate, thoughtful attacks IE: Dark Souls)
What others are there? Now I'm curious what kinds of characters we could get next?
@StarBeam500maybe a card battler, or a Pokemon-esque creature trainer?
@ThisAdamGuy card battler would actually be really fun
@StarBeam500 I do see a Deck Duel Carrying Case in the post credits inventory…
@ThisAdamGuy Pokemon trainer also fits the general summoner type of rpg, shin megami tensei/persona comes to mind as well.
