    Fantastic video, I came from your folding parachutes video (which was also fantastic by the way). Good job

    The Estes plastic parachutes also benefit greatly from a light dusting of talcum powder so they are not as sticky

      That's a great point/idea, decreasing they stickiness would definitely increase your success rate!

    Could add for the beginner. I was in a rush building one before dark. I haven’t set off one since I was a kid. I sit it off, low and behold, it did come out but not fully open. Reason? I didn’t allow the wood glue to dry long enough and the glue got a hold of the parachute. 🤦‍♂️ side note, I’m learning a lot and loving it

      Hahahaha I haven't had that happen myself but totally could see me doing the same. I think your comment just saved one of my future rockets!

      I came to the comments to say the same thing lol. I put the glue on and didnt wait long enough to put it together after. The parichute opened in the air but not much. When I found it a saw that i had accidentally glued the chute closed on one side 😂.

    Thank you for saving my rockets. The tip about the big rockets and the fast folds is a good one. We are now launching bigger rockets 🚀 like the Aerotech Mirage

    Hey thank you so much, I’m making my own rocket and parachute and knowing that the slow fold is better was incredible helpful also that the twisting of the parachute is caused by short and long parachute cords. Thank you

    I made the mistake of not putting enough recovery wadding in my first launch. I only put in two of the sheets that came in the engine pack. I was lucky and there was just a small melted spot in my parachute. Now I know what I didn't know about recovery wadding!

      I've made the same mistake! Sometimes you're fine with two, but sometimes not. 3-4 seems to be the ideal number!

      I made the same mistake, except it burned the shock cord. I had to jump over 3 fences to get the nose cone, and the rest of the rocket (somehow) landed safely and was recovered by someone else. I have no idea where it was or how it even survived like that. Maybe it was the thick ABS plastic.

    I have experienced some of this stuff it was not fun. Keep up great work! Edit I launched to day and the first on was great the second one not as great the rocket nose did not come out nor did the parachute and slammed into the road it even made a whistling sound and now I need to buy a new rocket.

      HA, it's okay we all have. Hopefully you experience it less now than when you first started.

    I have a question, how does the parachute deploy in the air?

    • @themodelrocket220
      @themodelrocket220  3 года назад +1

      The engine's ejection charge sends it out of the rocket so it can catch the air. Have you seen our slo-mo videos on the engine that show the ejection charge?

    The nice thing about a nylon chute is if it gets burned, it does not stick to itself and will still fully open.

    My parachute gets always a bit burned after a launch. The last time I launched it it actually made 2 holes in it. How do I fix this? what is causing this? And yes, I use the recommended amount of wadding

  • @pieman12345678987654
    @pieman12345678987654 4 года назад

    I didn't know that the recovery wadding was perforated to make squares so I put a few long sheets in there and it still worked lol

    • @themodelrocket220
      @themodelrocket220  4 года назад

      HA!! Maybe some isn't perforated but what I use always has been.

      @pieman12345678987654 4 года назад

      @@themodelrocket220 it definitely was lol. I should probably have known when it said to put 5-6 squares in there and what I was putting in wasn't square at all. I'm using all estes stuff. I realized after reading about the stuff and taking a closer look at the stuff that I realized it definitely is indeed meant to be torn into little squares. But what I found is it's definitely nice only having to chase 3 peices of wadding instead of 6 lol
