As an alcoholic, who has been there, been through 2 wives, lost the love of people I loved, lost jobs, and damn near killed myself through accidents and on purpose, this really hits home. Although I have not had a drink in 18 years now I still know how easy it is to lose everything. It's always good to have a reminder of " The good old days.☠️😭" Just the thought scares me. Oh no! Yes I am a senior but I know that if I were to have one drink anything could happen. I cannot take that chance. I don't begrudge others who choose to drink, I believe every adult is usually able to make a decision of their own. For me it's to never have another drink. We have a singer in Canada who has a great hit song back in the day called" Go for a Soda" His name is Kim Mitchell. Hey,I know that you mean well.👌

My partner stopped and has finally been able to deal with all their problems as a result, they are so much more comfortable in their own skin. Happier? Sometimes, at least they can feel things now, they are more resilient all the time though. I have a beer a week maybe, but it's different for everyone. Some people kill themselves with food, others with work. What's your sobriety look like, AA is a stepping stone, but some people even get addicted to that (of course there are much worse addictions). My Mother's sobriety includes zoloft, a friend's sobriety includes grass, another friend is more addicted than anyone and is straight-edge.
We all need to care about each other a bit more. We all need healthier relationships with everything.

probably have already cmnted this, but i can't stress enough how this video changed my life when i was at my lowest point.
it gave me perspective. it reminded me of being a child begging for my parents not to drink. it reminded me i became what i hated. it reminded me that giving up was silly, even the worst situations can lead to victory; take the help that is being given to you, even if only you are the one reaching out. you are important enough to listen to yourself.

FINALIST ? REALLY ? ! This video is way better than the one that won. Conceptually this guy (Muppet) clearly has a drinking problem, even his girl wants him to get help (the card). This video is so convincing, hell, I wanted to help the poor little blue Muppet. Towards the end, when he starts to get the shakes, my eyes began to water. Then when he turns the card over and reads, "please get help", I started to cry. It showed me that even with his problem, his girl really cares about him. :'(

It reminds me times where I took consciousness of this problem and this song and video actually made me feel better. It is like it has captured the exact feeling of alcoholism, without a word, and somehow gives hope. It is like being understood somehow. As said in other comment, it is something very peculiar that this song seems to have that power of empathy, while it is not actually a "song".

I was an alcoholic for only 2 months. But I mean, drinking everyday, puking blood, not eating, beig depressed, maybe some people thinks alcoholics are stupid, but it is a big deal and it seriously destroys your relationships.

Stumbled upon this, 9 year old post. That would have been 2011, maybe 7 years into my decline and I thank God for saving me from that, through the various routes of struggle, from the rooms, therapy, Allen Carr , r/stop drinking, SMART,unknown prayers and the constant love of my wife. I too prayer for those fallen, especially those still struggling. Merry CHRISTMAS and IWNDWYT.

I'm currently home for the weekend from the hospital.
3 months clean from 12 years on Buprenorphine (6 weeks clean from Kratom) and about 2 weeks from Ritalin.
Bought 12 beers when I got home, drank the last 4 this morning.
This video (plus a migraine) stopped me from buying more.

This is an amazing reflection best identified by someone who is so madly addicted to alcohol and the insanity that follows or a recovering addict who is sobering up. It was wise to read the comments to know that he finally understood that he wants help in the end...and stops being a puppet...yes I have been there and done it! Alcohol not only destroys the person who consumes but everything that surrounds him, the losses are enormous. Social stigma gets justifiable after you quit and understand the magnitude of damages you have done. Not all are blessed to digest this magical liquid, who has the power to leave you all alone and depressed. Beautifully conceptualized, very lyrical without the lyrics...the music, the imagination, the message is so profound...thank you. Love from India.

I don't understand how this one didn't win. I'm an alcoholic, and sadly my journey has peaked many a time when I've thought I was at rock bottom. However, my point is, that this hits home to any of us who know how it feels. The winning video didn't do that. Love Royksopp. Xx
