Another masterpiece from Stephanie and Paolo. I wait on a daily basis for new renditions to come out. Keep up the fantastic work. It is truly appreciated.
Dear Stephanie and Paolo, what a beautiful arrangement of ‘The land of might have been’.! I was brought up with his music, which was very ‘moving’, and your version of this song was breathtaking. Thank you!!😊
He was, indeed, the last romantic; we shall not be blessed with his like again. The lyrics of “The Land of Might-have-been, here so sensitively played, are as compelling as the melody. The rendition from the soundtrack of Gosford Park, as sung by Jeremy Northam, is particularly fine. Also worth a listen is “Shine Through my Dreams” as sung by Ronan Tynan. Many other Ivor Novello compositions are also easily found on RUclips: “Dark Music,” “Waltz of My Heart,” “Fold Your Wings,” “My Dearest Dear,” to name a few. All are best listened to with a glass of good wine. What wouldn’t I give to have been around Drury Lane in 1935-1936.
But, had you been lurking around Drury Lane at that time, you would not be here today savouring the delights of Stepanie and Paolo. You listed some other Novello favourites. Mine is 'Shanty Town' from 'Glamorous Night'.
Just Wow! This one doesn't sound like jazz or something. It sounds like a perfect Christmas song, though a bit sad and sorrowful. And this is for a good reason since the land or the world of our dream, the land that might have been, is no longer there. Or we are not there, in that land, any more. And this is really sad. But do we hear a whisper sound of hope in the music? Or does it seem so?
Tender-hearted, reflective & steeped in nostalgia for simpler times when folks stopped to smell the roses.
Stephanie and Paolo thank you for the wonderful moments you give us!
Novello's piece was thoughtfully selected, tastefully arranged, and perfectly presented. I loved it, as I do all of your performances. Thanks.
You make me wish this land-of-might-have-been came true - thank you so much for another masterpiece from your four hands.
