Hey ross radi the fig daddy!!! Your plants are looking amazing!! I have a question for you. Do you think it makes sense to maybe do a livestream one day and take a tour of your trees and answer questions? I have a question about my fig cuttings im trying to root and its almost june now and i see no roots or buds coming out so idk when to give up on them
I have used the small organza gift bags that have ribbon ties over individual figs on my potted trees. It stops the little birds that get into them as soon as they are ripe enough. We've moved to where we now have parrots and I don't know yet if they also eat figs
@@catherinemclernon2550I used that method on a dwarf peach tree. The squirrels detached the peaches and the squirrels took the bags with them inside. But it did work on my plum tree.
Hello ross i have a question if you do not mind i bought a plot of land in Spain and i plan to plant it with fig trees lots of them and while i was there i used to see lots of fig trees growing on Hills and beside roads on there own i mean no body planted them nor waters them they live off rain in the winter and the rest of the year is hot and dry i have a couple dozen fig trees in 10 gallon pots and plan to plant them in ground this year. When in ground i plan to cut them of on water and want them to live off rain water like olive trees in the area and i know that figs can survive in dry climates the question is at what year should i cut water off them or should i slowly decrease water until i stop how long should i do this step i hope you understand the point i am making. Thanks again ross
I just bought a fig tree from a nursery and there's just 2 pairs of leaves up top with a new set coming out. however, everything below is bare "trunk". will leaves start growing below the top leaves on it's own or am i supposed to do something to induce growth?
Ross are there fig trees that will not give figs I live in California and I have a great big. It’s about three years old, but it hasn’t given any figs so the question is are there fig trees that don’t give figs?
I grow lots of fruits and herbs and all imma say is figs are the closest thing I have to my “herbs” that are very similar we call this low stress training
Bob, I’d like to ask you I have a fig tree it’s me here in California and it’s branched out very nicely but it hasn’t put out any figs at all. It’s rather big now but I haven’t seen one fig are there fig trees that don’t give figs?
So, spread them out with your hands and simply attach string to the branches and tie them down to the pot rim or ground? Can you show us HOW you did that?
@@epigeneticnerd4244 I realize it sounds kinda stupid, but my figs are in large decorative pots in front of my house sitting on a concrete patio, not planted in the yard where I could simply stake them to the ground. I was thinking of how to stake/tie/tape/or otherwise the one end of that darn strings that are pressing the limbs down & apart. And I was thinking that Ross had some of his fig pots sitting on his concrete patio in the back yard as well. Or at least he used to have rows of potted figs sitting on his concrete patio
Hey quick question! My potted fig trees have been getting quite a lot of sun here in NYC - they're outside now in 3 and 5 gallon pots. I've been noticing though that they get reallly droopy leaves after a few hours of intense sun. I dod keep them well watered - so far a good soak every day. Is it possible they're getting too much sun? Thank you!
They'll need water every day now. In Philly it's been pretty dry. They needed to adjust to humidity shock. That's probably what's happening in NYC too. No worries.
So far after doing everything u was suggested. To get the most sun light possible my best shaped treee(Yln) i have yet to have double bumps. Its hard to see on that variety. Its 4 feet tall just like my VDB who is producing figs
Hi Ross, I'm a long time subscriber and I have a question. I have a Panache tree 3 years in ground and it has never produced a single fig. I bought it in a pot with 1 fig on it at the time. It is very healthy and grows fast. It has been fertilized with Bloom Booster every year. Any suggestions on forcing fruit or just give up on it.
Bloom fertilizer is a gimmick. Want your fig to fruit? Watch my videos on sunlight like this one and pruning. If you over prune your fig tree, panache can have a difficult time fruiting.
@@RossRaddiIf you’re going to say bloom fertilizer is a gimmick, please back up your statement. I’m not trolling I’m curious to why? I was going to buy the water soluble version today.
@@Xray.71 For a couple of reasons. Phosphorus is not needed in higher amounts for fruiting and it's also usually present in higher amounts in most soils. A bloom fertilizer with a ratio of 9-45-15 is a waste of nutrients and the real experts will agree. Don't just take my word for it. Do your own research. I've used bloom fertilizers for years. Nothing is better than increasing sunlight and balancing hormones to encourage fruiting.
This is one of my favorite tips from you. I have to share something funny. I did this with some huge branches about 10’ each. I plan to air layer them, but not yet. So when I did that, almost every node started new growth. So I have this giant branch sideways, the big growth and some fruit at the end near the apical bud, and then about ten new little lateral buds going into high gear and all growing nicely. Like a bunch of new little plants growing perfectly upward. Do you keep those all? Or do remove some to allow that plants energy to focus on the fruit or something else? It’s a lot of new growth. Looks amazing.
Thank you for the tip! That’s how a Japanese grower trains the figs to grow to the side.

Do many people throw netting over their fig trees? The birds always get my figs before pucking time.

They'll need water after planting. Especially in the first year. Add lots of mulch to the surface. You'll be way better off.
Im in Staten Island doing this now! Lol

This makes me wondwr about using espalier. Has anyone here tried growing figs espaliered??

my only fig tree is a can of bushy but for the first time in 6 years I saw little figs growing can I do it in a bush tree?
Fig trees are great as bushes.
What could be done to stop falling of fig’s,still green becomes wrinkled, shrink &fall of.Thanks.

Great question. Some are likely too close together. I would definitely do a bit of thinning as they become more mature.
Can you update us on your 2 ft apart in ground trees? Do they not shade each other?
I enjoy having them that close. It's a fun challenge to position each tree. However, I can't recommend it to everyone.
I'll try my best to update everyone this year.
@@RossRaddi I’m in the Phoenix area. Tempted to try it. Would be interesting to see if close in-ground is still better than spaced but potted.
