To speak on the big car parking thing... I saw a woman driving a Chevy Suburban (same platform as Escalade) and the license plate read "TUF2PRK" I still chuckle at that memory.
Your Richard Hammond bought a Hemi Charger for his channel and Shmee 150 of London imported a Mustang GT500 from the US. Their takes on those cars is priceless.
I have a 2016 Fiesta St, only our version is 4door. When I bought mine new from the dealership I got an opportunity to go to the "ST Octane Academy" at Ford Performance's race facility. A bunch of track time and professional instruction in fiesta and focus STs. It was quite a thing they offered for the owners. So much fun.
In terms of Japanese cars holding their value... a stock MkIV Supra Turbo will fetch 50 to 90 grand, depending on condition. The trick of course is finding one stock, as 98% of them have either been tuned to within an inch of their lives, wrapped around telephone poles, or both. The early 90s Acura (or Honda I suppose on your side of the pond) Integra GSR will fetch around 30 grand -- again if you can find one that wasn't crashed and/or stolen and stripped.
the problem over there is that for a long time in the 80 and 90 and early 2000s Hondas and other Japanese cars were considered old people cars like Cadillacs and oldmobiles are here up so were dirt cheap, until the fast and furious movies hit there ....
I am a Camaro guy. I owned one in 2000 to 2003. It had a ton of power. I would spin the back tires in the rain if I hit the accelerator to hard. It was the car I got my first speeding ticket in. I love the new design and if I had the money now I would get a new one.
American Ford Focus ST owner here! Yes we have them and they are more popular than you would think! I have a buddy with an ST that is *heavily* modified. He just Dynoed it at 728hp and he is on the hunt for 1000
American muscle cars have their levels. Camaro's big bad brother is the Corvette ($70-125K). Mustang's big bad brother is the Ford GT ($250-500K). Challenger's big bad brother is the Viper ( no longer made, so varies). The Ford GT is the rarest and is basically a race car tuned for the street with Ferrari type custom, hand built carbon fiber. The Corvette C8 Z06 at $125K+ will kick a Ferrari to the curb for half or a third of the price. If you're horsepower obsessed buy the Hennessey versions out of Texas of all these cars - 800-1200 horsepower and lots of chassis refinements.
We DO have the Ford Focus ST here. They aren't uncommon :) In fact I almost bought one a few years ago but decided against it due to the interior design.
The first Camaro was NOT "born in the '70s" as stated. The gold colored car displayed in the video IS the first year for Camaro. That year was 1967, as GMs response to the super successful Mustang, introduced by Ford at the 1964 World's Fair..The Mustang exceeded the less than 100,000 per year projected unit sales in the first 3 months and sold its 1 millionth unit in 18 months.
Ya'll will never be able to comprehend the sheer power of a Shelby Mustang's roar until you hear it in person. You can feel that shit in your bones from blocks away.
Mercedes AMG and Brabus, BMW M-Series and Alpina are just the German's way of making "muscle cars" but never daring to call them that. These often handle better but for $30-50 grand more by which time you could have modified your Mustang, Camaro, or Challenger to handle much better. Corvette needs very little modification as they were developed at the Nurburgring in Germany by racing drivers. But don't let the German hype fool you. The Camaro ILE ZK1 right from the showroom can kick most of those Germans into the weeds on long, difficult curbs because it like the Corvette was developed at the Nurburgring.

American muscle cars were designed to be powerful and fast but in a straight line. Street racing was part of muscle car culture and that did not involve curves. You pulled up alongside another muscle car at a traffic light, exchanged a stare challenge and when the light turned green....There was never any emphasis on handling. It was all about the power.
With regards to parking... look up "1979 Lincoln Mark V". I learned to drive in one of those as a hand-me-down first car (and de facto 'range limiter', can't roam around when 25 gallons takes you less than 250 miles and you're paying for it with a high schooler's funds), and managed to never hit anything. Oh yeah!! The Ford Falcons and Holden Commodores were their version of the rivalry of Ford and Chevy here and with proper V8s too. They were American anyway with GM owning Holden for a while till they shut down a couple years ago. Fun fact, the 2004 to 2006 Pontiac GTO, the Pontiac G8 GT and Chevy SS sold here were actually an Australian built and imported Holdens.
I have a 2019 Shelby GT350. It doesn't have as much power as the GT500 but it has a six speed manual whereas the 500 is only available as an automatic. The state police where I live drive the Challanger.
You can find six speed manual, challengers, and chargers around, but they are rare btw. I got a buddy who has a six speed manual challenger and you don’t see a lot of them. Mostly all of them are automatic.
When Dodge reintroduced the Charger, it became a 4 door. They had always been 2 door (Dukes of Hazard). Part of the reason for this is that the big three US car makers try to sell to police departments (a HUGE market), and a 4 door is needed for police. So, the Charger became a 4 door and now you see them as police cars all over the USA. Chrysler has had a long history of selling a lot of police cars (Plymouth Fury, Dodge Diplomat, etc.), so not surprising that they reprised the Charger as a 4 door for police use.
I used to have a Focus RS here in the states... was fun as hell to drive... They do tend to limit the release of those funner small vehicles. Not that there isn't a market for them, the manufactures just don't end up making them for the states for some reason.
90's Jap cars were my first love. I had a 3000gt VR-4 senior year of high school and through college. That thing turned heads because nobody knew what it was.
I know modern automatics are faster but if you're not tracking the car and just want to enjoy it, idk why anyone would prefer an automatic over a traditional manual if you're buying a performance car.
@@willvr4 At some of these torque levels it becomes difficult to impossible to source a manual transmission that will survive the warranty period. It's the difference in tooth contact between helical spur gears in manuals and planetary gears in autos, as well as the shock reduction of the latter.
@@mfree80286 That makes sense, especially if you're not great at shifting. I just really miss driving manual, I learned on manual cars and my first 2 cars were Mitsu 3000gt's, one was a VR-4. It's been ages since I've even been in a manual car. I just don't miss them in traffic lol
@@willvr4 It's not even about the shifting so much as you're only going to have at most 3 teeth (probably) in contact in a manual transmission, but the planetary sets in autos will have many more than that because of multiple planet gears and helical cuts... 5 planets in a set, 15 teeth or more touching to transfer the power at any given contact zone. It's the reason big truck (I mean road tractors, semis) manual transmissions often have double shafts, two sets of gears in contact simultaneously for any given ratio instead of just one. Double the torque capacity with the same gears. It's also partly why NASCAR stuck with 4 speed transmissions for so long, 4'th "gear" just directly mechanically locks the input to the output shaft, no moving teeth at all. With that done you can just beat on it all race long and not worry about wearing or breaking gear teeth.
@@mfree80286 Gotcha. When I had my VR-4 tranny rebuilt, we swapped out the earlier year 18 spline output shaft/input sleeve of the transfer case (AWD) from the earlier years to the 25 spline for that exact reason. Less likely to shed teeth.
17:43 This is a perfect example of what I don't like about Daz. Dave, you are correct. That whine is coming from the supercharger, not the air intake/exhaust. Daz shot down your statement, only because it came from you, instead of him. He's a "one-upper", and I, like most people, hate that.
Yes, you can buy a Ford Focus ST/ RS in Canada too, but for around the same price you can get a Honda Civic Type R. Which most of the younger generation picks.
We had the Ford Focus ST for a while but Ford stopped making passenger cars (aside from the Mustang) over here a few years back. Just SUVs and pickup trucks now.
The narrator of this video is off a decade, it was the 60's not 70's. It will be interesting how these cars will develop when they become electrified. Sadly it is the final year for the Dodge Charger and Challenge and the Hemi V8. Yes, the Ford Focus ST and RS were available in the U.S. In the 1970's Ford brought over the Capri from the UK/Germany and sold it here under the Mercury brand. That was the car I wanted in High School... and still would like one today.
The Chevys and Fords on this list absolutely DO handle well. They are full-blown track cars. The Camaro 1LE has put down some wicked laps at Nürburgring, posting faster times than a lot of porsches, ferraris, lambos, etc. The old cliché that American cars dont handle well is a thing of the past.
My first car was a focus in the US. We had the st, rs and Fiesta st for a while but ford usa is only selling suvs besides the mustang. The challenger and charger as still based off of the e class Benz of 03 lol but are solid in part because they are heavy ladies. It would be funny placing a porache 718 next to a hellcat. If the v10 m5 was reliable that would be soo good but the supercharger whine is 🤙in the hellcats
So a cool fact about the mustang it is the only muscle car in us maker history that was never taken off the assembly line. All the others have gaps in manufacturing years.

Modern muscle cars, outside of Dodge, are proper handling cars as well. The Dodges aren't bad, but cars like the Mustang and Camaro are tested on, and meant to blitz, the Nurburgring in record times.
Ah God the sound of Demon supercharger whistle is so sexy, i want one so bad. i wish my 2022 Ram Limited 6.4 Hemi 2500 sounded like the Demon. Also the only REAL muscle cars on this list are the Dodges, Mustang and Camaro are not muscle cars anymore they are sports/race cars
This is way out of that league but F1 cars are the best sounding till this lame hybrid crap.. but those were the best sounding cars in my opinion. They sound terrible now.
German luxury sports cars target a more upscale customer base and are priced as such. They are often all-wheel drive, and they can therefore generally outlaunch muscle cars.

You see alot of Ford focus and Volkswagen golf's Honda civic hatchbacks over here in the states and most are standard they tend to be teenagers that are in to cars have them because they are cheap reliable most cars over were standard until the early 2000s
Fun little fact (Unless you're a Ford person) about Mustangs and drag racing, 90% of Mustangs you see on a drag track are powered by Chevy. All the drivers say the same thing on why they do that.
There is a ford focus ST in the states. Hot hatches aren’t super popular but they sell them here.
I used to have a Focus RS here in the states... was fun as hell to drive... They do tend to limit the release of those funner small vehicles. Not that there isn't a market for them, the manufactures just don't end up making them for the states for some reason.
Loving the car reactions, y’all gotta do some jdm sometime
90's Jap cars were my first love. I had a 3000gt VR-4 senior year of high school and through college. That thing turned heads because nobody knew what it was.
These cars should all be in the pony car category since they are small blocks. Muscle cars require big blocks.
I can't lie and say that I wasn't a bit taken aback every time I heard the word "automatic"
Fellows, American muscle is only about a straight line. We also have NASCAR, which turns a little. Good vid, boys!
That update was in 2020 and there are a couple of more updated versions as of today that are even more powerful.
All sweet, powerful cars and while not as powerful as some on this list, my heart beats for the Camaro.
Have a 1970 Chevy nova we are building completely since it has been apart of nature for years.
Australia has had some unique muscle cars .
Those Falcons are legendary
@@theomen7665 Absolutely iconic worldwide after Mad Max .
The Mustang design was "Europeanized" in 2015 when the car was introduced to European customers.
Aston Martin convertibles rule.. that V-12 Vanquish ruled too. Brits have had some very nice cars as well.
So a cool fact about the mustang it is the only muscle car in us maker history that was never taken off the assembly line. All the others have gaps in manufacturing years.
these cars where made to run in a straight line redlight to redlight or on a deserted road we call it drag racing
I would LOVE to have a new transAm. We had two..a 1985 and a 1986...take that back 3..had a Bandit too. The 85 was my favorite. But DAaaang if the rear didn't slide all over in the rain. There was NO weight back there. I still drive a modded up 2001 Ford Mustang. New Edge.
Yes we have focus st’s but they stopped producing them in 2018 here sadly, i used to own one and loved it
Modern muscle cars, outside of Dodge, are proper handling cars as well. The Dodges aren't bad, but cars like the Mustang and Camaro are tested on, and meant to blitz, the Nurburgring in record times.
You guys are absolutely hilarious
I hope you guys do powerful American suvs, there a lot of crazy fast suvs in the US
Ah God the sound of Demon supercharger whistle is so sexy, i want one so bad. i wish my 2022 Ram Limited 6.4 Hemi 2500 sounded like the Demon. Also the only REAL muscle cars on this list are the Dodges, Mustang and Camaro are not muscle cars anymore they are sports/race cars
Nothing sounds better than a supercharged challenger whine
Except a nice twin turbo spool with an open air intake 😛
This is way out of that league but F1 cars are the best sounding till this lame hybrid crap.. but those were the best sounding cars in my opinion. They sound terrible now.
Police use hellcats in chases
German luxury sports cars target a more upscale customer base and are priced as such. They are often all-wheel drive, and they can therefore generally outlaunch muscle cars.
You should check out the new corvette!
Oh yeah? I have a 2015 Nissan Vers does 0-60 MPH in 3.3 minutes! (Check my thumbnail for my "toy" 1967 Ford Galaxie Convertible). My 1967 Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible does the 1/4 mile in 0 seconds - It's so long, it's already there. 6.4 Litter, pass everything but a gas station.
I’ve been a car guy my whole life I know of very unique cars but never have heard of a equis. #1 should be the Hennessy zl1 Camaro 1000hp hellcat killer, not a mass produced though.
It's pretty easy to control a car with a loose back end tbh. Except for mustangs for some reason, those things just spin out.
My buddies used to do time trials at Englishtown and PnC bank arts center and one had a focus and the other a Toyota mr2. Don’t remember what model focus it was though
We recently found out Chevrolet was discontinuing their cheaper sedans. Cruze, Impala and Malibu are all going away. Apparently its because Toyota produces the top sedans.
The BMW is a great car - but does it sound like and a muscle car - because the roar is everything!
Hilarious watching you all grin when you hear those beast engines revved up. Total man thing lol
9:20 I'm that person in my Tesla lol
Yes, we have the Ford Focus RS and ST.
Imo nothing beats the look of the late 90s Dodge Viper
My favorite is a Mustang GT500 or a 1970 Chevelle Super Sport _ when you can get the front tires off the ground from Power
Hell my 1969 Chevelle Super Sport with the 300m package and the L78 396 375 horsepower and Muncie 4 speed M21 Rock Cruncher Transmission with a 3:71 12 Posi-trac rear end with factory torsion bars could jump two( one on each side in front of the front tires) beer cans when you drop the clutch in first gear on pavement.
this dude kills me when he says chassis lol
I find it funny how all of these cars can keep up with most "super cars" if not pass them at a quarter the price. But they are only sports cars.
The sound of a turbo spool is so much more pleasing to the ears than the supercharger whine.
No, but thanks for trying 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿🤣🤣🤣
Not until you hear a Paxton Supercharger talk!
I'd kill for a 67 Austin Healey convertable. There were some British cars I'd like to have.
The video neglected to mention that Chargers are saloons unlike the other ones.
We have loads of manual cars over here. Many of us, like myself, learned or drive on a 5 speed. Not sure why you think we don’t have them.
Here in Indiana you can order a Ford focus st at any dealership if you want it.
They have Camaro and Charger police cars everywhere where i live 😂 no point of running cuz they WILL hawk you down 💯
we indeed have the Ford Focus ST here in the states. 🤣
You see alot of Ford focus and Volkswagen golf's Honda civic hatchbacks over here in the states and most are standard they tend to be teenagers that are in to cars have them because they are cheap reliable most cars over were standard until the early 2000s
I would argue that Australia has a "muscle culture"
I would maybe even say Cuba as well.
Fun little fact (Unless you're a Ford person) about Mustangs and drag racing, 90% of Mustangs you see on a drag track are powered by Chevy. All the drivers say the same thing on why they do that. Chevy has better mid/top end and most importantly a lot more reliable than the Ford motors are which is perfect for drag racing.
